Saw a few little 'school of Mum' duckling groups where dabbling and diving were being practised under parental supervision -

not behaviours I'd witnessed before(the school of aspect), but hey, how else do they learn?

“I travel around the world constantly promoting my projects and endorsing products. Yes, I do get paid to go to parties; in fact, I'm the person who started the whole trend of paid appearances. But when you see me at a party, I'm always working or promoting something.”

Hydrellia tritici, Ephydridae, bodylength approx. 2mm - I'm starting to really warm to these guys (other uploads from me). They are constantly putting on a display and are quite tolerant of close cameras. I've already uploaded video of their leg waving but I'm experimenting with different equipment - basically using my reverse lense on an old digital video camera which has good optical zoom (20x).

Couple of interesting things in the video. Primarily the obsessive foreleg displays, but from an ID point of view there is a large black velvety spot above each wing base - this feature distinguishes H. tritici from all other Hydrellia species in Australia. Oh, also it shoots a terd at -51sec.

Filmed in my backyard amongst the lawn grass, Dynnyrne, Hobart, Tasmania, 23rd October 2009.

it occurs to me that all these objects/tools & perhaps many more, need a storage place, a drawer, a shelf, a filing cabinet, a library of sorts, in our daily lives...

A website collects

- satellite data + prodiction

- crowd sourced data :

oilspill.labucketbrigade.org/

The website tells every bot the "center" of the spill.

The swam moves there not in line, but scanning maximum width.

Whoever finds first become [Busy]

[Available] bot go join the [Busy]

until the work is complete

If another bot is too far (the one at the bottom) it "explores" around, scanning.

The "people" on land

can over-ride the swarm movement (they have a camera on them

IF

>> [emergency] they need the bot in a specific location

>> [density] humans know a spot where there is more oil to be collected

Scratching post or submissive behaviour perhaps?

We were sitting on the beach today looking at the West Pier when this guy in the wetsuit with a mahoosive speargun suddenly appeared out of the water. I missed his actual emergence, but I looked round and there he was. I love the look of complete gobsmackedness on the dad's face, and I totally sympathise with his reaction.

I gave this a pretty tight crop to emphasise the surreality of the spearfisherman emerging from the wreckage of the West Pier. I would imagine the wreckage provides a great habitat for fish, although he was unlucky this time!

This shot doesn't really work on the web, it needs the original resolution. It'd make a good print, I think, although I cut it down to 3.3MP, so it wouldn't be a large print.

Here it is large and MUCH better, but still not quite large enough.

My mom started screaming at me at 5:30 am and i got up suddenly. I did not even wore my flip flops. Just picked up my Camera and ran and saw these green brothers. Can somebody shed the light on this behaviour

I saw this bird around the CheongGyeCheon Stream, Seoul Korea. I continually shot this animal to take awesome images such as feeding moment or trembling moment. I succeeded in both moment but I lost the all of the awesome images for I turned off the camera so early. so it erased all the fantastic images. My camera was very slow to memorise. It was too much regretful. I'm minded that I will try them later. Instead of them, I disclose this photo.

Today we (we being, fellow Flickr contacts) all met up for a quick stroll around the park and along the river bank into Burnham for some ball play on the beach with our jolly canine friends...We do have a laugh!

I look at these shots and can't stop smiling. The banter on and offline is always SO good and our friendships all started with a love of nature, dogs and cameras united by the big world web..

Meeting face to face is called..'Going Primitive' in Urban slang...and I like it a lot...in fact, I'd go as far as saying...

I lub it, I do!

Change in dog behaviour: When your dog reaches the age of two, you will see fewer behaviours that were common when he was younger.

He's less likely to get involved in things he shouldn't and less likely to be rambunctious. You will also notice that he is more attentive when training.

Have fun with your puppy at the age of two. Around five months, most puppies go through a difficult stage.

Depending on the breed, dogs may not grow out of their adolescent phase for another 2-3 years.

Many experts think the most challenging period is between 8 and 18 months. This is the only time they mature, and most adults don't do childish things like intentionally disobeying a command they already understand, like "sit."

It is not a fixed date when they suddenly "change." They change as they reach full maturity.

They had reached sexual maturity at six months, and we had them in our early teens, but neither of us was emotionally mature.

What To Expect As Your Dog Approaches Two Years of Age

Growth And Development

Your dog should be eating adult dog food by now. Please select a high-quality dog food that will supply appropriate nutrients while not overloading him with calories. The amount of food required by your dog is determined by its size, activity level, and breed.

Assess your puppy's diet kind and amount with your veterinarian or a dog nutritionist. As for activity level, remember that your puppy benefits from daily exercise.

This Australian Magpie ruffled up some grass (I use the word lightly) hunkered down with wings spread and stayed like that for several minutes. Then he hopped up and walked away preening itself.

The only explaination I can think of is ant cleaning. I have seen starlings gather up a bunch of ants in their beak, and rub them under their wings. I'm told the formic acid from the ants delouses the feathers.

Sorry for poor quality it was taken through a window.

Intimate behaviour

Part of a quick morning project to capture behavioural portraits of animals in Taronga vs the normal grab shot. Hopefully these are a little more intimate than usual. Most animals are self evident, eg: Sumatran Tiger or Chimpanzee but will label them later

Ever wondered how the penguins' beaks get so shiny?

There's a team of young ladies who make sure they are spick and span.

At least I hope that's what they are doing !-D

I become more and more convinced that a major barrier to Japanese speaking English is that they can not use adjectival clauses.

They need to be convinced that English is not like Japanese, that English is far more difficult than Japanese, because it is impossible to learn English vocabulary because there is too much of it. The Japanese don't realise that English vocabuliary can't be learned because they learned their own vocabulary by learning the Kanji characters which enbable them to make up all the words in the lexicon. Japanese vocabulary is vastly easier in that respect since there is a short cut to a massive vocabuilary, and enables even non intellectuals to use on average far more words than speakers of other languages.

Note the cicada checking the other one out with it's foot, I think this is to determine if it can mate.
