The Postcard
A postally unused postcard bearing no studio name.
Although the card was not posted, the girl in the photograph has written the following on the divided back:
"Xmas 1922.
To Dearest Frances,
With fond love & best
wishes for the New Year

Beetroot.
Love & best wishes to
Mother & Angela".
'Beetroot' was perhaps a term of endearment for 'Beatrice'.
Not only is this beetroot striking in appearence, the taste is fantastic too. Deep pink skin with stripes of pink and white flesh, it has a lovely sweet flavour that matches its name. When cooked it turns a uniform brilliant pink. Slice it up for salads or try grating it raw to really show of its stripes.
We source these direct from a small farm in Colchester where they are planted and harvested by hand. This makes for exceptional quality, as used by the best restaurants.

I bought the biggest beetroot I could find to experiment with carving a flower with the petals fully open. Without the comforts of having an instructor one has to be the critic and performer also. So I try to make every carving as best as I can and try to improve on that the next time. I hope you find this worthy of your attention. Thanks
