Looking towards Beetham tower, this skyscraper dominates the city centre. It will soon be eclipsed in the next year or so by 2 even higher ones.

Beetham Tower also known as the Hilton Tower is a landmark 47-storey mixed use skyscraper in Manchester, England. Completed in 2006, it is named after its developers, the Beetham Organisation, and was designed by Simpson Haugh and Partners. At a height of 554 feet (169 m), it is the tallest building in the United Kingdom outside London and 10th tallest building in the United Kingdom.

A few photos of the Manchester skyline at dusk / night, taken for a recent commission.

Bit lucky really - after being beautifully sunny all day in wakefield, driving over the M62 to Manchester it became really overcast! Luckily it started to clear up for sunset so I could get the intended nice sky :-)

These were shot from the top of the Skyline 2 skyscraper, looking towards the city centre.

Well! It still looks like no-one is going anywhere anytime soon. So let's follow up my modest travelogue "Lockdown Longing" with something closer to home - places we might expect to revisit sooner rather than later. Here's Manchester's Beetham Tower from August 2015.

This is an old photo from when I shot this and this at a Rosie Hardy workshop, but I've always loved it since editing it and felt like sharing something today!

I've been thinking a lot recently about where I'd like to go with my photography, and more than anything I'd like to make a living from selling my work as fine art pieces or from gallery exhibitions, rather than being a full time wedding photographer or anything similar (however, I still do commissioned shoots for those interested). I've decided to start selling prints for this reason, which I shall announce soon!

Beetham Tower (also known as the Hilton Tower), the tallest residential building in Britain.

Due to a design flaw the whole building makes a loud humming noise in high winds, close to a standard musical pitch B below a middle C (approximately 246.94 Hertz), described as sounding like a UFO landing.

This is my love letter to Manchester, the place where it always rains and everyone is welcome - always.

Birmingham skyline from Ravenhurst Street and Moseley Road, Digbeth

Near the Moseley Road between Highgate and Digbeth.

The land between Cheapside and Moseley Street near Clearys Irish Bar will be built on with apartments.

Already one plot of land on the left is being built on.

So the Moseley Road no 50 bus view of the skyline will be lost in the future.

When I took this close-up of the facade of the Beetham Tower by Ian Simpsons Architects I was reminded of some photos I saw by Andreas Gursky. Unlike his prints I'd be happy to sell you one for less than 3 million dollars.

From Wikipedia : "As of early 2007, Gursky holds the record for highest price paid at auction for a single photographic image. His print 99 Cent II, Diptych, sold for GBP 1.7 million (USD $3.3 million) at Sotheby's, London."

One of two of my images shortlisted for the Architects Eye 2013 photographic competition : www.architectseye.co.uk/

Results to be announced on 12/06/13......

It had been raining hard just before I took this shot (who would have expected it to rain in Manchester?) but momentarily it reduced to slight drizzle.

These will be the tallest buildings in Manchester soon I think 2020... Look at this website for more information

Completed in 2006, it is named after its developers, the Beetham Organisation, and was designed by Ian Simpson. Occupying a narrow plot of land at the top of Deansgate, the development was proposed in July 2003 and construction started a year later. I love this part of the canal network...it joins Deansgate Locks and Catalan Square in Manchester's buzzing city centre. In the background is the ultra-modern Beetham Tower, the city's newest and tallest. In the foreground, a little relic of a bygone era.

The Beetham Tower is a landmark 47-storey skyscraper in Manchester city centre, England. Built in 2006, it is named after the developers, Beetham Organization, was designed by Ian Simpson and was built by Carillion. It is the tallest building in Manchester by a significant margin.
