I had been shut out for 5 nights in a row on this trip and was willing to shoot anything at this point. As I was running around to the different viewpoints on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon looking for some open sky, I rounded the corner along the drive and hit the brakes for a quickie. :) I set up one light panel quickly and snapped 3 shots then jumped back in and off I went. I used a cooler white balance than usual on this one at around 3200. :)
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend everybody!! :)

Been staying inside for the past couple of weeks, so here’s one from the Archives. It was a beautiful crisp morning when I spotted this little Guy having breakfast on top of a fence. I liked the way the morning sun backlighted Its tail… Brought a Smile, but then I’m easy to please : )

I've been sat here for quite some time
squarking sometimes . . that's my desire
who cares if I'm in a zoo cage or free . . .
matters not to many but it does to me
I'd love to be in the forests it's true
but I'm stuck in here as if with glue
oh to fly free to be a bird on the wing
and then perhaps . . once again I'd sing !

Been trying all summer to catch both the hummingbirds and hummingbird moths in the same frame as they fight over position on the flowers. To date lotsa of pics but nothing with them both. I figure I have a few more weeks before it gets cold and they are gone - fingers crossed.
Been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Thanks ABJ & Fe.
Here's a great article on the couple:

I haven't been in here much because I've been wallowing in self pity. I was just diagnosed with cancer and it's located in my neck. The doctor is pretty sure it's curable and he has a 5 year plan. In the mean time lots can happen. I'll probably lose about 30 lbs, could lose most of my teeth and could lose the ability to talk. I'll be starting radiation and chemo later this month. It still hasn't completely sunk in and I'm still having trouble talking about it. I'll still be looking at your work but I just may not be contributing as much

August has been going by so quickly for me - my day job continues to be busy, and the Great Salt Lake continues to be covered with smoke from massive fires burning in California and Oregon.
This shot is from July before the wildfire smoke - my heart goes out to all those who are have been impacted by those fires.
The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the shot.
Been awhile since I headed out for am shoots. Thanks to my jet lag I was up and about today.
No filters.
HDRI from 3 exposures.
Been forever since I posted in this group so pardon the older shot - I haven't picked up a camera (cell only) since March really. Happy Day to all and HWW
...for a day when I really wanted--needed?--to share something pastoral and peaceful, for a day when the whole world seems a bit topsy-turvy. A day like today and recent days.
This is Devon, in rural England. I took this photo this past spring on a family holiday. Even whilst taking it, I felt a sense of perspective and peace, and I need that today.

Residents have been flocking to this tropical island paradise for its beautiful views and innovative wave system for years. A great place to relax and listen to the tide crash on the shore.

Been using my D800 sparingly as I wait for my big duffel bag of stuff to arrive back from India - its being shipped back within the household good of some co-workers. Inside that bag is my battery charger for my D800 batteries - hence the rationing. Thought the hoary frost from last night was worth some electrons. I hope I have it back soon.
We had been away for a while, and when we came back to our old country house, I saw this “spot” of about 1 cm² outside on the kitchen window. I thought a young bird had crashed and made this, but later noticed that the spot had changed shape. Taking a better look revealed that the spot was actually many small spider babies. Sometimes close in a bunch, later more spread, then close again. I let them live there until one day the spot was gone, and now I have hundreds of small spiders around my house, I guess :-)
Yesterday felt like my graduation
Now some of those kids have got their own
Been a while since I took a vacation
It's been a while since I really let go
Don't wanna look back
Thinking I could've done this, or I could've tried that
Don't wanna look back
'Cause it's going by fast
I'ma call my mother
It's been a while since I've been home
Take a trip in the summer
See all the lights in Tokyo
Get lost in the desert
Just to see what I can find
So when it's my time, I
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
Yesterday felt like my first day working
Now I'm not the youngest on the clock
Been a while since days were just for burning
It's been a while since I threw back a shot
Don't wanna look back
Thinking I could've done this, or I could've tried that
Don't wanna look back
'Cause it's going by fast
I'ma call my mother
It's been a while since I've been home
Take a trip in the summer
See all the lights in Tokyo
Get lost in the desert
Just to see what I can find
So when it's my time, I
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
There's been a couple times that I fell in love
But a couple times just ain't enough
There's been a couple joints that I couldn't share
But I guess I gotta start somewhere
I'ma call my mother
It's been a while since I've been home
Take a trip in the summer
See all the lights in Tokyo
Get lost in the desert
Just to see what I can find
So when it's my time, I
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)
I'm smiling when I die (when I die, when I die)

Over time, I've been building my castle of love
Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason
I've gone much too far for you now to say
That I've got to throw my castle away
Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true
Though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming
The sandman has come from too far away
For you to say come back some other day
And though you don't believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me
Mom has been gone a few years but she always grew peonys along the side yard. Recently, while in Kentucky they started blooming and this is one of them. I know she would be proud of her flowers!!!
So Mom, this one is for you!!! :-)
The 2017 has been a great and rich year for my photography and for my travels. Then, with one of my latest shots, I want to thank you all once more for following me and wish a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to Everyone!!
See you soon, now is time to take a break and celebrate with my family.
It has always been my wish to photograph the secretive Sora head-on showing its laterally compressed body, which allows it to slip and weave easily through dense vegetation. However, seeing the Sora in the open is notoriously difficult.
I was justifiably excited when I spotted this Sora walking cautiously along the path. And when it turned and looked straight into the lens for a brief instant, the angle, light and position were just right, as seen in this picture. Luck!
I am glad that I was ready and took advantage of that opportunity.

It's been a while since I posted a lighthouse photo, and I do have a few more that I feel are worth sharing. This is the Cape Neddick Light, also known as Nubble Light or just the Nubble. Built in 1879, it is located on Nubble island which is just 90 meters off Cape Neddick Point, in Southern Maine. The lighthouse is only 12 meters high but because it sits on top of a steep rocky island, the light is actually 27 meters above sea level. The Nubble is a famous American icon and as such, a picture of it among with pictures from other prominent man made structures (like the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China) was carried by the Voyager Spacecraft, should it fall into the hands of intelligent extraterrestrials. Only the lighthouse keeper has access to the island and as you can imagine the small park at the tip of the cape right across from the lighthouse is almost always crowded with people enjoying the view of this beautiful structure and the rugged shoreline.

After having been shut out by a weather front the night before in Coyote Gulch, William MacIntosh and I decided the head further east to get out from under the storm that seemed to be following us around. Bill is quite adept at chasing (and running) from weather systems so after acquiring a connection and analyzing the weather radar we decided to head further into Utah towards Canyonlands National Park. We both missed peak fall color in the Eastern Sierra this year so Bill and I were quite pleased to see the fall colors peaking here in the center of Capitol Reef National Park which happened to be right along the route to our next destination.

Been on the bucket list for a long time, after several failed attempts finally got one.
Groby, Leicestershire.
It's been pretty cold in southern England for the last few days with hard frosts and morning mists. In weather like this, it doesn't pay to have a leisurely stroll. A brisk walk is the order of the day!

T-Minus two hours. It's been months since I've been out nightscaping and I'm feeling like Rip VanWinkle, as I am throwing my gear in the car on my way to the Nightscape Photography Conference In Moab Utah.
So proud to announce that I have been invited to speak at the conference.......Wait, wait, hold-up. I'm not sure if I was "invited" It was more like I finagled my way into a spot on the staff, It's really a bizarre story too hard too believe, but to make a long story short, after talking to Royce Bair on the phone I managed to, via Royce's kindness land a spot in a side conference room.
That quickly changed to two presentations and two workshops. I have spent the last two years preparing a line of products that teaches the techniques I use in the field to navigate, plan alignments and predict the weather.
I think I found a niche.
The Smart App bootcamp sold-out in 5 Hrs. Whaaaat!
Wait, it gets better. Well maybe I will save that for my next post.
I should mention that Wayne Pinkston had a hand in my participation there, he has got to be the coolest "Night walker" on the face of the Earth.
Thanks Wayne and Thanks to Royce as well. You guys are two amazing people!!!
Wish me luck my friends!!!
Thanks as always, for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and reading my descriptions.
I am always grateful for your views, comments, faves, and support, they are truly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

Been finding it hard to get motivated for Christmas this year. Almost didn't even bother putting the tree up but after looking at all the gorgeous Holiday Bokeh images on Macro Mondays group I dragged out my ancient tree and ornaments and put it up. It may be over 25 years old but it still decorates up well.

It's been in the news: "This is the first big partial eclipse to happen in the UK since 1999, and the next one isn't until August 2026, so this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity." - So all gear set up and waiting - hoping for a glimpse of that "once-in-a-generation" event...
BUT the weather didn't play by the rules where I live: Muddy skiess all morning... No sun to be seen, let alone the moon trying to cover it up...
Still, with all the gear in place, when the clouds went I decided to do a shot of the sun (background image - HDR'ed) and "post-processed" my moon in with Photoshop afterwards.
Ha: If you cannot rely on UK clear skies, create your own eclipse! ;-)
Made for mental sanity & Sliders Sunday: HSS!
It's been a few days of cloudless skies and warm sun, heralding spring, with blackthorn flowering, hawthorn leaves opening, and skylarks singing. I may go looking for adders today, and have a slow walk through the woods. Someone yesterday asked me whist my favourite conditions on the beach were for photography, I said cloud cover with shafts of sunlight. A light above descending is by British Sea Power.
Been outdoors for some shooting and stumbled across this litlle beauty of nature. It almost seemed that she was standing there as an satellite adjusted to sent out her beauty into the universe.

Been outdoors for some shooting and stumbled across this litlle blossom. I took a closup image and the light behind the blossom did the job very well. I`ve been once again impressed about the nature of mother earth!
