This is a Black Swallowtail butterfly on Cardinal Flower in my backyard.
Cardinal Flower is a native species wildflower that is very attractive to hummingbirds. I have had one or two hummingbirds every year coming to the Cardinal Flowers and Beebalm in my yard.
Monarda fistulosa known too as Bee Balm, Eastern Bergamot and Wild Bergamot.
Thanks for your visit and taking the time to comment, much appreciated!🙋♀️
One or two Black Swallowtails have been in my yard each day for a few weeks This one remained perched atop the dry flower head of a Beebalm in my native species garden.
I must admit that this image is pure serendipity - a moment of magic with the last light of day illuminating a lone Monarda aka Bee Balm flower in the evening garden.

There are hundreds of these wildflowers located in a field behind my house and they are full of bees and wasps. I think I was a little too close to this one as it was waving me off. Best viewed large.
Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments! HWW!
The Monardas (Bee balms) at the park were losing their petals and dying; this one was the better one.
Thank you very much for the kind comments and faves, much appreciated!🙋♀️
Although the Monarda Bee Balm flowers are past their prime, they are still attracting the juvenile hummingbirds in my garden. Almost a full frame image.

Hello there,
I found quite a large clump of these lovely wildflowers this past summer. I'm noticing that more and more people are planting bergamot, also known as beebalm or monarda, due to the increased interest in wildflowers and in attracting pollinators. All types of monarda are adored by both bees and butterflies.
Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I do love hearing from you!
Have a wonderful day and weekend!

The baby raccoons are starting to stray just a bit from Mom, but this one is making sure she is still close behind. They love climbing on our low patio walls; plenty of places to hide.

Monarda 'Jacob Kline' aka Bee Balm is blooming in my garden right now, giving me a laugh every time I see it with its tousled and messy petals. Its bright, red color cannot be ignored!

I created this image by combining Neural Filters: Style transfer in Photoshop and an image created by me in Deep Dream Generator just for fun :) Then I polished the results in Topaz Studio.
Thanks so much Flickr friends for all your visits, kindness, and encouragement!
A female Broad-tailed Hummingbird hovers before dipping into a bee balm blossom. If you look closely you can see bits of pollen on her bill.
Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

Still raining from time to time and it's getting hot, but the garden is ... flourishing. Here, mostly Indian Blanket and Beebalm plants.
These beautiful butterflies have been flitting at tree top level, but have not landed for a photo session:) Today, one did and I love it. The bee balm continues to do its job. Now if only the hummingbirds would start enjoying it.

This particular individual shows the red lags and small veins running horizontally behind its eye which help identify it as a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth.
For anyone interested in enticing these little cuties to your property plant native nectar-producing plants like beebalm, cranberry, blueberry, vetch and thistles. Your added bonus will be butterflies and Hummingbirds.
A tip for photographers that would like to get a few pics of these little gems. I noticed a few buzzing around the flowers at the local nursery so asked the attendants if it would be possible to visit with my gear and they were very cooperative and gave me unlimited access. They were very accommodating and I left them with a few pics. Good luck.

Goldmelisse - bergamot (Monarda didyma)
I just realiced, that I didn't show a blossom photo for a while. I want to change this now. This bergamot flower, also called crimson beebalm, is a newcomer in my garden. The blossoms reminds me to the headdress of a Maya king.

This bee lives the standard colony life cycle but when feeding and gathering pollen shows a preference for thistles, clovers and Beebalm. Adults drink nectar and eat honey themselves as well as feeding honey to their larvae.
They forage in open habitats like meadows, forest openings and along roadsides and nest on the ground.
The corbiculae or the flattened mid leg used for transporting pollen is lacking in the male populace.
Next year I am moving this plant on my Butterfly garden in full sun
I love the way it stands tall.

Even though they grow in the back of my garden, Monarda 'Jacob Kline' or Bee Balm always captures my attention. I love their dramatic color & form!
