Happy Halloween to you all, and please do take great care and stay safe, my good flickr friends !!!
Coreidae is a large family of predominantly sap-suckling insects in the Hemipteran suborder Heteroptera.[1] The name "Coreidae" derives from the genus Coreus, which derives from the Ancient Greek κόρις (kóris) meaning bedbug.[2]
As a family, the Coreidae are cosmopolitan, but most of the species are tropical or subtropical.
------------------------------------------------------
It's not a beetle, it's a bug. In other words a heteroptera, like the gerris. Bedbugs have hemelytra, the forewings are half-membranous. Their mouth is a biting-sucking rostrum.
Constable (insect)
(Pyrrhocoris Apterus)
The gendarme, or pyrrhocore, Pyrrhocoris Apterus (from ancient Greek: πυρρός / purrós, “red”, and κόρις / kóris, “bug”), also called devil or midday seeker, because of his attraction to the sun at its zenith, is a species of hemiptera hemiptera insects in the family Pyrrhocoridae.
Many other vernacular or regional names are attributed to it: soldier, red bug, fire bug, Swiss, noon-seeking devil, Indian beast or fireman.
Eurasian, it is the most common and widespread bug in Europe: it is found in the temperate zones of Europe and in the Mediterranean zone, as far as India, everywhere except in the high mountains.
************************************************************************
The gendarme measures about a centimeter long, it is the bug of Europe most widespread and the most common, but without odor. This insect, like all bedbugs, is a heteropterous hemiptera, that is to say that it has a piercing-sucking mouthpiece, two pairs of wings (the membranous posterior and the formerly partially horny), and long antennae. However, many pyrrhoids have no wings or only very short wings, so they do not fly.
The red and black designs that the policeman wears on his back are not Aboriginal-style make-up or African masks even if they make them think, but they would still have a precise aposematic vocation: that of frightening his predators. However, be aware that not all gendarmes wear the same uniform: the hotter it is, the more black it will be.

It is suddenly COLD here in my part of the South! Nathan is all snuggly in his plaid flannel pajamas for the night!
"It is just TOO cold, Mama," he said.
"I know, Nathan! It's why we dug out the warm pjs for tonight!! If you need, we will get you another quilt for the bed! Now Sleep Tight! And don't let the bedbugs bite!"
Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!
. . . Paris, when we were young and first married and though the October weather was rainy and cold, our French was poor, our tiny hotel room had bedbugs. .. it was still a magical time and grows more so in our memories over the years. . .
Une petite mouche noire et rouge-orangé, hérissée de soie noires : la Cyclindromyia brassicaria est la bienvenue au jardin où elle parasite les punaises.

Anú branco (Guira guira) measures between 36 and 42 centimeters in length, including its 20 centimeters of the tail, and weighs between 113 and 168.6 grams. It is usually found in family bands.
The adult of the species presents ocher-yellow coloring with a shaggy crest, naked yellow facial skin, strong beak and curved with a beautiful yellow-orange coloring and iris varying between yellow-orange and blue-bluish.
It is a species without sexual dimorphism.
This bird always walks in groups, being extremely sociable. His vocalization is tall and strident, and when perching, throws the tail to the back.
It is essentially carnivorous, eating grasshoppers, bedbugs, spiders, etc. Eats also hairy caterpillars and urticants, lizards, mice, frogs and puppies of other birds. Fishing in shallow water; but periodically can eat fruits, berries, seeds, especially in the dry season when there is scarcity of arthropods. It has already been seen in the region of Lagos, RJ, predating small African snails.
Its eggs are relatively large, having from 17 to 25% of female weight. The color of the eggs is sea green and a high-relief limestone network spreads over the whole surface. The nests can be individual or collective, but the female who built a nest and still did not start putting her eggs throws off the eggs of other females.
Adults do not always take care with their nests with eggs, abandoning them. The puppies leave the nest before they can fly, with the short tail, and are fed even only for few weeks.
Lives in fields and more open environments. Migrates to regions where it was unknown and becomes the most common bird along the roads.
* It's not a great capture. The sun was shinning directly on the scene and I had not enough time to search a better perspective before the bird runs away.
I think I'd sleep in my car!

In contrast to the common technique of mimicry or camouflage, this insect practises the opposite, i.e. aposematism. It consists of doing just that, making itself more visible to indicate its toxicity at the species level. A predator that eats it or tries to eat it will make an individual being disappear, but it will not try again with a similar one.
We can "smell" this toxicity at the human level when we pick it up, as we will soon get the stinking "bedbug smell" on our hands.

Was it foretold?
[Photo from bedbug-infested house rental somewhere in Mexico. But the views were worth it.]
I passed by one morning and realized this is the sort of place that I'd regret not having a photo of if it ever burned down. And that places like this seem to be disappearing quickly in San Francisco. A good place to catch live music, downstairs in the bar. As to the hotel upstairs, I've never been, but the reviews make me think it's a good place to catch bedbugs, or syphilis, or both.
This building is really of a certain era, which passed many years ago. Somehow, it's still here. Combined with that enormous Coca-Cola sign in the background, the entire scene is an only-in-San Francisco-original.
These plants range from 46–120 centimetres (18–47 inches) in height. The flowers are usually yellow with a toothed tip, but may also be yellow-and-red bicolor.[3] They have showy flower heads with involucral bracts in two distinct series of eight each, the outer being commonly connate at the base. The flat fruits are small and dry and look like insects.
There are 75–80 species of Coreopsis, all of which are native to North, Central, and South America. The name Coreopsis is derived from the Ancient Greek words κόρις (transl. grc – transl. koris), meaning "bedbug", and ὄψις (transl. grc – transl. opsis), meaning "view", referring to the shape of the achene.[
The best feeling, I have ever known!
Have a wonderful day, dear friends!
Flickr is so slow, I'll try to comment later!
When walking on a dirt road we sometimes experience moments as unexpected as they are enchanting.
This was the case of a bird that crossed my path in a low flight, caught something at the side of the road, and immediately landed on the fence post next to it. For just a few seconds, enough for a single photo.
This is Anú Branco (Guira-Guira), also known as straw-tail, cat-soul and gypsy (south of Piauí). Geographic distribution occurs from the southeast of Amapá and from the Amazon estuary to Bolivia, Argentina and Uruguay, that is, spreading over almost the entire Brazilian territory.
It measures between 36 and 42 centimeters in length, including its 20 centimeters from the tail, and weighs between 113 and 168.6 grams. It is usually found in family flocks.
The adult of the species presents a yellowish ocher color with a disheveled crest, bare yellow facial skin, strong and curved beak with a beautiful yellow-orange color and iris varying between orange-yellow and bluish-white.
Species without sexual dimorphism, have a strong and characteristic body smell, noticeable to us several meters away and capable of attracting blood-sucking bats and carnivorous animals.
It is essentially carnivorous, eating grasshoppers, bedbugs, spiders, myriapods, etc. Also prey on hairy and stinging caterpillars, geckos, mice, frogs and young birds. Fishing in shallow water; he periodically eats fruits, berries, coconuts and seeds, especially in the dry season, when there is a shortage of arthropods. It has been seen in the Lakes Region, RJ, preying on small African snails.
Its eggs are relatively very large, having 17 to 25% of the female's weight. The color of the eggs is navy green and a white limestone net in high relief spreads over the entire surface. There are both individual and collective nests. The female who has built a nest and has not yet started laying her eggs throws away the eggs laid there by other females. She also throws her own eggs when she finds the nest where she wants but occupied by another bird. Adults do not always look after their nests with eggs well, abandoning them. The chicks leave the nest before they can fly, with a short tail, and are fed for a few weeks.
To some extent, it benefits from the disappearance of the high forest, as it lives in fields, crops and more open environments. It migrates to regions where it was unknown and becomes the most common bird along the roads.
