Sometimes I need to remember that it is a beautiful world. I decided to test out animoto for making a movie from my flickr photos. I know, I shall be drawn and quartered and burnt alive for my misdeeds. I have had so many people tell me that it is wrong to post videos to flickr, I see the protests against videos and yet I made one anyway.
I've had so much negativity in the past week that I almost lost sight of what is important. Spending time with my nephew made me realise what I was missing in the real world and how silly it is to be bullied into following the path made by others. I've never been a sheep to follow the herd. I have always trusted my gut instinct and I do not think that flickr will turn into youtube as everyone has feared. I remember when everyone wanted to boycott flickr because it was owned by yahoo.
I'm sure there will be some that wish to lecture me about making a video and uploading it to flickr but I am tired of trying to please others. If you don't like a video in my stream then don't visit. I respect your decision not to post videos, please allow me the ability to make my own decision.
I'm also in the dog house because I choose to allow non profit companies to use my photographs for free, that I don't support the 'no free photos from flickr'. I do set a value on my photos but when it comes to non profit and educational use I am more than happy to help out. I see most of my photos as educational resources, especially those I add to the Picture Australia group.
I agree that there are some businesses that take advantage of flickr and the glut of images freely available but I do feel there are some times when we as photographers, who document and journal the life around us, should give to the next generation. The Picture Australia organisation accepts photos from Flickr that are then added to the national archives of Australian images to stand alongside those that were added and represent a pictorial history of Australia.
"Picture Australia began in 1998 as a pilot project called ImageSearch, involving the Australian War Memorial, the National Library of Australia, and the State Libraries of New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria. Following the very strong support received in response to the prototype, it was decided to expand into a new service to include more libraries, galleries, museums, and archives."
