Torpor (hibernation for Lesser Tenrecs) lasts for about 5 to 6 months during the winter (typically Sept/Oct through Feb/March). It is usually triggered by lower temperatures and/or seasonal changes in light, although it has been reported in those tenrecs kept with the same temperature and light schedule year-round, they will still stop eating and sleep. They tend to be colder during this time and will only wake occasionally to drink.

Azizi was sat on my hand when this photograph was taken. Taken in natural light indoors to keep him warm.

Herdwick sheep are unique to the Lake District; I'm rather please because I love everything about them.

A favourite tourist destination(especially japanese, chinese) famous for the author Beatrix Potter who purchased various properties in the area and who actually gained respect as a breeder of Herdwick sheep and conservationist.

A little westie sitting by the window looking at his reflection

Prompt: Create an image of a west highland white terrier puppy wearing a floral-patterned outfit, standing in front of a mirror looking at her reflection; the mirror is vintage-style oval mirror. The background should depict a cozy, softly lit room,; The overall atmosphere should be light-hearted, cheerful, and visually appealing, focusing on the dog’s cute and whimsical interaction with its reflection; in the classic style of Beatrix Potter --v 6.1

The Easter Bunny can be traced back to Thirteenth Century, pre-Christian Germany, where people worshiped several gods and goddesses. The Teutonic deity Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility, and feasts were held in her honor on the Vernal Equinox. Her symbol was the rabbit because of the animal’s high reproduction rate. In the Eighteenth Century, the tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws” also came out of Germany.

Easter Eggs represent the birth of new life, and it’s believed that decorating eggs for Easter also dates back to the Thirteenth Century. Hundreds of years ago, churches had their congregations abstain from eggs during Lent, allowing them to be consumed again on Easter.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 8th of April is “eggs in black and white” as we draw nearer to Easter 2022. Therefore, I am celebrating with Peter Rabbit, who whilst not the Easter Bunny, is a well loved character from my childhood. "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" is a children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, published in 1901, that follows mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he gets into, and is chased around, the garden of Mr. McGregor. This Peter Rabbit egg-shaped lidded tin was a gift from a friend Easter two years ago. I hope you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile

The shadows and light

That move with the wind...

Nothing seems to move, everything is still

It's just another perfect day

And all of this world

Is for children who play

Days that never end always should remain

Another perfect day...

Prompt: A painting of a white westie puppy, ears up, sitting in the center of a group of four kittens. The kittens are in various poses, some sitting, some standing. The dog has a happy expression. The background is a garden, and a wall. The scene is peaceful and playful, with a soft and whimsical atmosphere. In the artistic style of artist Beatrix Potter, --ar 5:4 --v 6.1

In this garden at Lingholm on the edge of Derwentwater gave Beatrix Potter the inspiration to write about Mr McGregor's garden in the 'Tale of Peter Rabbit' I can imagine rabbits hopping about, there are plenty of vegetables to munch on.

Except, I imagine the farm equipment was a little different! Apparently she liked to wake up and watch the farm from her bedroom!

Beatrix Potter lived and wrote and illustrated in Hill Top House at Near Sawrey near Hawkshead in the Cumbrian Lakes of England. This is her front room and, on the right, you see her chair with her gardening hat and shoes (the mud's still on them).

You can just imagine Mrs. Potter at work when you visit. The characters Tom Kitten and his family, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Samuel and Anna Maria Whiskers, and Pigling Bland and his brother Alexander all lived here. We didn't see Peter Rabbit anywhere but I'm sure he was about.

"Is that really a tiny rabbit in a blue coat stealing my radishes?!" Beatrix questions whether he is real or only a figment of her vivid imagination.

Beatrix Potter is a 'Victorian genius' who has inspired me immensely both as an artist and as a woman. Best known for her children's tales which she illustrated herself there is so much more to this remarkable woman

A shady pathway through Beatrix Potter's garden, at Hill Top in the Lake District.

Easter Eggs are represent the birth of new life, and it’s believed that decorating eggs for Easter also dates back to the Thirteenth Century. Hundreds of years ago, churches had their congregations abstain from eggs during Lent, allowing them to be consumed again on Easter.

And thus we arrive at Easter 2021, which I am celebrating with Peter Rabbit, who whilst not the Easter Bunny, is a well loved character from my childhood. "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" is a children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, published in 1901, that follows mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he gets into, and is chased around, the garden of Mr. McGregor.

This Peter Rabbit egg-shaped lidded tin was a gift from a friend last Easter, and the brightly foil wrapped eggs are from Haigh's Chocolates, a company that began in 1915 in Adelaide, and to this day still makes very high quality chocolate. They make a special blend of creamy chocolate especially for Easter.

Happy Easter to all my Flickr friends and followers!

Beatric Potter's house and farm in Near Sawrey, between Esthwaite and Windermere lakes. She bought the farm in 1905 with a legacy and royalties from her burgeoning publishing success. She extended the house in 1906 and it became her favourite house after buying more farms in the Lakes with the proceeds from her books.

Some of the books MA and I enjoyed reading today from the Beatrix Potter book set that belonged to my son when he was 5 years old.

Photography is the story I fail to put into words, Words is the story Beatrix Potter put into Photography!

HFF!

Not one of my usual submissions but for those famiiar with Peter Rabbit and friends, this picture was taken in the garden where it all started. Situated in the heart of the English Lake District, Hill Top Farm was the home of Beatrix Potter, author, artist and Scientist. Now owned by The National Trust, Hill Top farm is a magnet for fans young and old of this infamous author and her many farmyard characters.

Mrs Tiggywinkle pays a call.

It's years since I've seen a hedgehog and I'd've probably missed this one if it hadn't been for the dogs telling me there was something in the garden. Luckily Tasku was behind the gate and Taivas didn't show too much interest as it was well hunkered down beside a plant pot and not easy to get to.

What a cute face it has.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

One of the many plant pot creations which can be seen in the town of Settle each summer.

The vegetable garden at Hill Top is not the model for the fabled garedn that Peter Rabbit raided for food. Those books were written and drawn before Potter moved here. This garden can be seen in later books and illustrations though.

Mr. Brooks, Petey, and Hedwig stopped by for afternoon tea, after their Parliament of Owls -- during which they discussed, of course, the nature of the elusive Armadillo. These three were parched! :-)

At the Jetty Museum, just outside Windermere, can be seen Beatrix Potter's little row boat. It has a flat bottom, so that it can be used in the shallow waters of a tarn.

Stories say it was made from old floorboards. The boat sank in 1950, and was dredged up in 1976 and was restored.

A gift someone gave my new grandchild fits very nicely with the Beatrix Potter theme, though my grandson thinks that with her name she should be receiving zebra themed presents! I feel the need to knit a stripey black & white jumper.......
