There is a technique of pruning where the tree is bent over, and this creates new growth from the bent branch. This is called Agobio. Certain sections of Mauritania have quite a bit of this type of pruning, and the trees in these sections had really great production.
This photo is from that section, but it is hard to see the trees that are pruned like this.
