The prickly pear cactus are certainly bearing fruit this year.

Twin Polar Bears at Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo, here just 3 months old.

Taken on Market St, SF.

These 3 NS GE's including an easy to tell former Conrail C40-8W (number boards on the nose not the cab) negotiate the "S" curve above "the big hole" as they near the loadout at Bear Run Mine. So we have a GEVO, Dash 8 and a Dash 9 representing GE here.

Knowing that UK is a landscape photographer’s haven, we opted to shoot a couple of known places and bracing the crazy weather while applying a Filipino touch to make it our own. This was in the third leg of our shoot, kicking off from London to Manchester here in Isle of Skye back to Edinburgh and ending it in N. Ireland.

This was the farthest location in our list in the Isle. Going there was a bit of a treat itself, driving around lakes and crossing vast fields with hundreds of sheep roaming around. The Neist Point has been photographed many times due to its jaw dropping view. It has been featured in many movies as well. Though it offers limited composition, any photographer who's into landscape or not, who would come across this area would want to have at least one photo taken as a remembrance or to add in their portfolio.

Unfortunately, we arrived too late. Maybe next time then?

my heart's intention: bear witness to the pain of others without losing myself in the process. i'm working toward equanimity--compassionately being with people while not trying to save, control, or cling. trying to keep my heart open through the sorrows and the joys.

As the date approaches for the opening of the new Titanic Museum, I thought I'd share remixed mono version of a shot I posted last year. The orginal plans for the Titanic Museum site inlcuded reflection pools in front of each of the four 'bows' of the building to echo the maritime heritage the building represents. I thought it was a great design feature, and not just for all the photographers who would have been queuing up there for some shots!

Sadly, it seems that these are not being included. So we will have to rely on mother nature to provide us with her own pools if we want to grab shots like this, it would appear. Good job there's so much rain in Belfast really... ;-)

Square lashing is a type of lashing knot used to bind poles together. Large structures can be built with a combination of square and diagonal lashing, with square lashing generally used on load bearing members and diagonal lashing usually applied to cross bracing. If any gap exists between the poles then diagonal lashing should be used.

1. Begin with a clove hitch on the vertical pole beneath the horizontal pole and tuck the loose end under the wrapping.

2. Wrap in a square fashion about three times around the poles.

3. Frap two or three times, pulling often to work the joint as tight as possible.

4. Tie two half hitches around the horizontal pole

5. Cinch the half hitches into a clove hitch, an additional clove hitch may be added if desired.

When the turns are taken around the vertical pole they should be inside the previous turns. The ones around the cross pole should be on the outside of the previous turns. This makes sure that the turns remain parallel and hence the maximum contact between the rope and wood is maintained.

Strength is improved if care is taken to lay the rope wraps and fraps in parallel with a minimum of crossing.

Hi boys and girls I have a whole bottle of wine here so does anyone fancy helping me empty it of its contents, there is far too much in here for me alone.

A man takes in the view from the cliffs of La Jolla.

Low and compact bogie, equipped with ball bearings. After some trial and error I've now done six of those bogies for my three brown flat bed wagons, When skipping lego train wheels and holders, it is possible to build a bogie which is one plate lower than a "normal". Also it is easier to attach decor to the side. It often bothers me that std lego train wheels are so large on diameter and so visible. With this design I managed to camoflage that a bit ( I think...)

Denver & Rio Grande 10-wheeler #168 charges up the section of track known as "The Whiplash" (MP 296.8), heading west on the San Juan Extension toward Durango, CO via Cumbres Pass. The Whiplash is a series of reverse curves which allow the train to gain roughly 200 ft. of elevation over a very short distance. As seen in this frame, the train is about to enter the last of the reverse curves, which will take it toward Big Horn Station, about 3 miles ahead. The mountain visible on the right side of the image is Big Horn Peak (elevation 9,442 ft.), which lies just to the south of the little yard and wye at Big Horn Station.

This image was captured during an October 2024 photo shoot on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, which featured Locomotive #168, one of only 2 survivors of the D&RG T-12 Class, and the only survivor that is operable today.

A faulty wheel bearing on the rear of this Algoma Central gondola ended up derailing several cars of a southbound WC freight on May 2nd, 1992. Ironically, the gondola was carrying rail sections. See sdl39hogger's photostream for another wheel bearing failure 10 years earlier in Oconomowoc, with similar results..... Tony Stelter photo

I came across this interesting tree, which literally grows hundred of shoe pairs. It is next to a skating hub and I am still curious when or why they stick those shoes on that tree. Was an interesting view and thought of sharing.

Something I was not sure how it will work. Alternative to cut 2L axles idea by Pepe Nietnagel (www.flickr.com/photos/162569845@N05/49049266901/in/album-...). The cut axle solution does not work for all wheel bases even when it should, as described by Pepe.

I went for proposed alternative solution using DIN913 M5x10 and it's working great. Yes, there is some play to adjust the height but it's not a rocket science :)

Here and here you can see how it works in practice:

More to come with 4-axle over 1kg of weight waggons when I organize some space to test them.
