The beacon stands on the Northern rim of Blackstone Edge and gives excellent views to the high ground on the north side of Swaledale.

In 2012. It’s gone now, along with the Framingham-Chelsea Produce Local, and the nearest somewhat busy freight yard (in Framingham) has scaled back its operations. So, because I live in the city and don’t drive, I don’t have all that many freight pics. I might become more motivated and start taking day trips to Haverhill and Ayer…when the summer’s over.

The highlight of Beacon Rock State Park is the trail to the top. The trail twists and turns as it winds its way straight up the face of the sheer cliffs of Beacon Rock. The trail was built by Henry Biddle in the early 1900s for the express purpose of proving that it would be possible to build a trail to the top.

Beacon rail leasing ltd logo
coast guard used to use this rock as a beacon point on the river hence the name. now it's a popular place to hike there is a trail all the way to the top for the adventurous and brave (not to mention in shape) this rock used to be a plug in a volcano. long long ago when the mountain exploded this chuck lande here.
