The Bat Flower (Tacca chantieri) also known as Black Bat Flower, Cats Whiskers, Devil Flower, Bat Head Lily, Bat Plant, Devil’s Tongue, Black Tacca, Voodoo Flower, is an exotic plant with flowers that mimic a bat in flight, deep purple, with ruffled wings and long, hanging filaments. Indoor blooms and those outside in semi-tropical climates may appear in spring and last until early autumn. Large, attractive leaves surround the bloom.
Ces maisons construites en pierre de St Cast et/ou en granite de Languebia. Ces maisons peuvent être datées du 18 et 19ème siècle. Elles sont mitoyennes et leurs façades donnent au Sud du côté de l'estuaire. Les hauts murs de clôture et de défense témoignent de la construction de bâti du littoral sur des terrains submersibles, gagnés sur la mer.
Canyon bats are active in the evening and early mornings. Occasionally I'll see them in the late mornings skimming the pool to quench their thirdt
Just in case you've forgotten,,, Well, I've just found out that this was two days ago, while I visited their colony only yesterday. There is also The (more appropriate I guess) International Bat Night in August.
Anyway, I've chosen one shot (that does not require parental guidance) to mark this occasion.

4X-EDE, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, on approach to runway 24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario. "BAT YAM" was arriving as ELY31 (EL AL Israel Airlines Ltd.) from Tel Aviv, Israel.
The Bat Falcon is a widespread small falcon of forest and clearings in the Neotropics. It occurs from Mexico south to northwestern Peru and, east of the Andes, northern Argentina. It is dark slate gray above, with an obvious white throat, black-and-white barred breast, and orange lower belly and thighs. Bat Falcons can be distinguished from the similar and sympatric (but much rarer) Orange-breasted Falcon (Falco deiroleucus) by their smaller size, more compact structure, narrower white barring on the lower breast, and more restricted orange on the upper breast. Bat Falcons generally hunt around dawn and dusk at forest edge or over the canopy, often along rivers or road cuts, or at the edges of small crop fields. As the name implies, they feed on bats, but also prey on birds and insects (mostly aerial). They nest in adopted cavities, on cliffs, or on man-made structures and defend their territory aggressively. doi.org/10.2173/bow.batfal1.01

In the high hazy afternoon along the Columbia, C RWMCEC0 53A moves west along the Fallbridge Subdivision.
One of the most unusual flowers we saw on our recent visit to Kauai. The bat flower (Tacca chantrieri) is native to southeastern Asia, but thrives in Hawaii's tropical climate. It may be grown as a houseplant in colder climates.

Found this guy and some of his fellows in an artillery casemate of Fort Douaumont. They were not very pleased, to be photographed..:-((
From Wiki: The bat falcon inhabits tropical forest. It favors unbroken mature forest but also occurs at the forest edge, in gallery forest, on wooded savanna, on cleared land with some remaining trees, and even in suburban and urban areas. In elevation it mostly ranges from sea level to about 1,700 m (5,600 ft) with a single record in Bolivia at about 3,250m .
Bat falcons perch conspicuously on high, open snags, from which they launch aerial attacks on their prey. They also hunt in sustained flight. Most hunting is around dawn or dusk and often continues well past sunset. Their diet is eclectic; they hunt bats, birds (such as swifts, swallows, hummingbirds, parakeets, tanagers and small water birds), small rodents, snakes, lizards, frogs, and large insects such as dragonflies, butterflies, moths, grasshoppers, true bugs, beetles, and hymenopterans. In most areas vertebrates contribute the most to biomass consumed, varying from 66% to 96% in various studies, and birds made up between 32% and 85% of the vertebrates. Invertebrates dominate numerically, and young are fed large numbers of them. Bats generally contribute less than 14% of prey biomass but some pairs seem to specialize in them.
Spotted this guy out in the midday sun constantly diving and drinking from a small pond. Unfortunately it wasn't long before a Magpie also spotted it. RIP Long Eared Bat.

Came across this bat, but not sure what type it is, it tested the Sony just looked it up and think its a Common Pipistrelle
A leaf which has seen Better Days, on a walkway in Hermann Park, The shadow is a selfie, which normally I would avoid, but I really needed to catch this in a few seconds, on the run at the end of a beautiful day. In fact on one of my Better Days!
Yet another instance of a Barnett Newman Zip coupled with botanical jetsam &/or a topological equivalent of a disc—probably not the first reading that popped into your mind.
