Another image of Annapurna South taken from Poon Hill. This was one of the most anticipated mornings of our trek last year toward the Annapurna Sanctuary. Waking at 4am, we joined the pilgrimage of mountain viewers walking from Ghorepani to Poon Hill. The skies changed from clear stars, to rain, to a clouded dawn. Sadly, the mountains were only visible in and out of view.

Seguin Island Light in the heavy fog that covered the island most of the night. It was like being in a whole other world and even though you are only three miles from shore, it feels like you are out in the middle of nowhere, alone and isolated. For some this might be disconcerting, but with the smell of salt in the air and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, it felt perfect to me.

Lots of spring rain and a nice cloudy day made for excellent shooting conditions at Bastion Falls in New York State. Haven't done any shooting at all but I'm traveling to the PNW in a few weeks to drive down the west coast highway from northern Oregon to L.A. and spend 24/7 taking pictures!!
Fisherman's Bastion It is a viewing terrace,with many stairs and walking paths,well known for the wonderful panoramic view,it provides of the city of Budapest.

The walls and bastions of the Old Fortress in Corfu, Greece, were reinforced during the long period of Venetian rule (1386-1797). Later the British built barracks, a hospital, church, and kitchens in the fortress between 1815 and 1864.

Manenborgh, ook wel Manenburg genoemd, was een bolwerk in het centrum van de Nederlandse stad Utrecht. In de 16e eeuw liet keizer Karel V de middeleeuwse stadsverdediging van deze stad uitbreiden. Onder meer vier stenen bolwerken verrezen daarin rond 1550 aan de verdedigingsgracht (de Stadsbuitengracht), waaronder Manenborgh en Sonnenborgh. De stadsbouwmeester Willem van Noort ontwierp het fortificatieplan voor Utrecht en was in het zuidelijke deel van de stad verantwoordelijk voor de bouw van bolwerk ManeHoewel bedoeld als verdedigingswerk, kreeg de Manenborgh gaandeweg een functie als woonhuis en veestal.
Vanaf 1830 zijn de overtollig geworden Utrechtse bolwerken, stadspoorten, verdedigingstorens en stadswal grotendeels afgebroken. Met de afbraak kon in de volgende decennia - naar ontwerp uit 1829 van de landschapsarchitect Jan David Zocher jr. - op een groot deel van de voormalige verdedigingswerken het Zocherpark worden aangelegd. Manenborgh maakt vandaag de dag onderdeel uit van dit singelplantsoen. Onderste delen van het bolwerk zijn bewaard gebleven. Restanten zijn een rijksmonument evenals twee woningen die bij het bolwerk staan.
Op moment van schrijven huisvest het bastion een beeldhouwatelier.

Während sie in anderen Städten schon verschwunden sind, fahren bei der Cottbuser Straßenbahn nach wie vor fast nur Tatras.

How cliche, another heritage building in the sunshine of paradise, aka Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island from me!

For over a century, the Fisherman's Bastion has offered Budapest visitors incredible views of the Danube and Pest. The real history behind this monument dates to the Middle Ages when the defensive wall on Castle Hill was defended by a guild of fishermen from a nearby village. This splendid architectural piece was built at the site of the old rampart in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque architectural styles in 1905. A small fee allows today's tourists to walk the walls of history and enjoy the panoramic views of Budapest.

Die Bastionsgänge sind Teil des Kiek in de Kök-Festungsmuseums.
Die geheimnisvollen Gänge der Befestigungen Tallinns wurden zusammen mit den Bastionen im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert erbaut. Das Ziel war es, Soldaten und Munition sowie andere Ausrüstung vor dem Feind versteckt zu platzieren. Nachdem die Erdbefestigungen 1857 aus dem Verzeichnis der Militärobjekte gestrichen wurden, wurden Parks angelegt.
Die unterirdischen Gänge fanden aber wieder Verwendung in den Weltkriegen.
Dort unten entlangzugehen war schon ein bisschen spooky.

Me and a few mates were away camping last weekend and the weather wasnt great! The second day was a washout with rain and high winds from the leftovers of Post-tropical storm Ernesto.
After a bit of cabin fever i made the most of the following day and took a walk along the coast, the wind was smashing the waves into the cliffs! I took a few long exposures and wished i had a better tripod as it was so windy. I thought about getting myself into shot to show a sense of scale but after a bit of risk assessment(camera blowing over+me, a tad hungover falling in) i decided not to!
Bastion Katten ligt aan de noordoostkant van de vesting Naarden, tussen de bastions Oud Molen en Oranje. Het bastion heeft een spitse punt. De beide voorkanten (facen) zijn ongeveer 111 m lang. Het is een van de kleinere bastions van de vesting. Toch was het zeer belangrijk voor de verdediging omdat het bij een aanval over het buitendijkse gebied ten oosten van de vesting in het centrum van de aanval zou komen te liggen. Gelegen aan de kant van de voormalige Zuiderzee is de inrichting van het bastion volgens de wijze van vestingbouw die langs de hele zeezijde van de vesting is toegepast. Het heeft korte rechte flanken die direct aansluiten op de voorkanten van het bastion. De flanken zijn dus niet gebogen en teruggetrokken zoals bij de bastions aan de landzijde. Verder zijn de voorwallen van de aangrenzende rechte stukken vestingwal (courtines) aan weerszijden van het bastion tot voor de flanken doorgetrokken en vormen daar lage flanken. Deze lage flanken zijn alleen vanuit de aangrenzende courtines te bereiken.
