On February 6, Argonne hosted Dr. Bindu Nair, Associate Director for Basic Energy Sciences (BES) at the U.S. Department of Energy, for a full day of scientific exchange, facility tours, and strategic discussion.

Nair toured several of Argonne’s flagship facilities, including the Electrochemical Discovery Laboratory, where researchers are developing advanced battery chemistries and materials; the Advanced Photon Source, which recently completed a major upgrade to enable ultra-high-resolution imaging; and the Center for Nanoscale Materials, a user facility advancing nanoscience and quantum materials.

She also visited the Argonne Autonomous Research Laboratories, where scientists are pioneering AI-guided experiments and autonomous discovery platforms to accelerate breakthroughs in chemistry, biology, and materials science.

The visit concluded with tours of the Aurora exascale supercomputer and the Materials Engineering Research Facility (MERF), where Argonne is scaling lab discoveries into manufacturable technologies that serve U.S. energy, environmental, and economic interests.
