A basejumper takes a leap of faith at the Monkey Lips formation in Canyonlands National Park, Utah.
Here's a fun adventure shot I took while on my last trip to Colorado. We worked our way down from Colorado into Utah to this location which has been dubbed the "Monkey Lips" by the local jumpers. We arrived to this second location after a long drive in Canyonlands National Park. I must admit that when my friend Scott Wakefield advised me of the opportunity to shoot these guys and reported the location I couldn't think of any "Really Tall" formations that would allow a jump. I found out later as you can see that they only need a couple hundred feet to jump. I consider myself a little bit of a thrill seeker, but this is plain crazy folks. At least they found an interesting spot to do the jump, the formation they jumped off does look like a monkey pursing it's lips. Don't you agree. Hehe. :)
The first location I used my canon 6D, but I decided to switch to the 70D because of the faster frame rate. I shot this as a series using High Speed Continuos mode, and then set my camera to capture only Jpeg files and to increase even further the speed that I can capture to the card. Hope you like it. :)

Stopped on my way home to take some pictures of the Snake River and the bridge into Twin Falls Idaho. I noticed a person on the wrong side of the railing, I looked through my camera and zoomed out to see more closely. I thought he was being stupid, or maybe committing suicide, then he jumped, thank God he had a parachute.

Base-jump : le grand saut !
(BASE = Building (immeuble). Antenna (antenne). Span (désigne la travée d'un pont ou d'une structure). Earth (Terre).)
Approx 470ft and a very long way to the bottom. One of the highest bridges in the US. This is just one two-lane span built in 1995. An identical span built in 1929 right next to it is used for pedestrian and equestrian traffic - or so states the the all-knowing Wikipedia!
Jump from THE BREVENT of three flying men with wingsuit.
Start, 20 meters higher than the last jumper.
LE BREVENT mountain is above Chamonix.
Chamonix altitude about 1000 m.
LE BREVENT, altitude 2525 m is located in the chain of “red needles“
FROM THE INTERNET:
The most famous bridge in Idaho, the I. B. Perrine crosses 486 feet above the deep canyon of the Snake River at Twin Falls.
Spanning 993 feet between springings, it is the 4th highest arch bridge in North America.
Opened in 1976, the distinctive brown structure was a replacement for the 476 foot high Twin Falls-Jerome bridge.
The most distinctive trait of the Perrine may well be its status as the only bridge in the U.S. where BASE jumping is legal year round without a permit. During most weekends, you can usually catch a group of jumpers leaping from the east side of the span.
Known among BASE jumpers as the Potato Bridge, the 48-story drop has become legendary within the BASE community and several jumpers have made a permanent home in the Twin Falls area.
Despite the fact that high bridges are the safest of the 4 land based objects BASE jumpers leap from, the bridge has claimed the lives of 4 jumpers since 2002.
My friend is fortunate enough to have a home on the canyon ridge overlooking New River Gorge and the NRG bridge. I shot this from the back of his property. Truly spectacular view.
A base jumper I met on the Håen mountain after taking the Loen Skylift cable car.
In three weeks we'll go back to this area amongst other, on this year's first Norway road trip. Can't wait!

(Left to Right) Paiju Peak (Trango II?), The Trango Monk, Trango Nameless Tower (6,239 m), and the mass of the Great Trango (6,286 m) on the northern lateral moraine of the Baltoro Glacier in the Baltoro Muztagh Range.
Nameless Tower is the world's steepest granite face. Some daredevil tried basejumping off it a couple of years ago. The summits have been so few, that even the elevation data is uncertain!
Climbing up the Namless Tower for example, can involve 90 pitches (of tents). The tent flowers open and you sleep essentially hanging down next to the Nameless' vertical walls!

You can probably figure out which tower earned this name! It is a part of the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area and is a popular climbing and base jumping venue. Photo taken along the Colorado River near Moab and Arches National Park.

Can you imagine taking a leap of of this massive cliff. Many people do....but not me! :)
I crawled out to the edge of this cliff, known as Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock, and looked down. I don't think there's any way I would have dared to base jump. This cliff is located on the fjord called Lysefjorden near Stavanger, Norway and is a massive 604 metres (1982 feet) above the fjord.
This is probably the coolest place I've ever been. Definitely worth the 2+ hour hike...and I was very fortunate to be there on such a clear day as it is often quite foggy up this high.

From what I've gathered, the strawberry root weevil (Otiorhynchus ovatus) is a bit known to like to hang out on people's houses so this one was following the norm.
It did however not appreciate me sticking my Canon MP-E65mm lens in its face and instead chose to jump off the wall and land somewhere in a large blue fescue grass tuft growing underneath - effectively disappearing.
Otiorhynchus weevils (the name being a combination of the Greek words for a diminutive ear and for snout) have short snouts for being a weevils and a fused elytra and are thus flightless, a fact that people growing strawberries try and take advantage of to prevent these from feeding on the strawberry plants by creating small moats around the plantations.
With it being flightless, perhaps the jumping-off idea is a viable strategy to avoid predators as well as photographers.

Kids dont try this at home ! Wingsuit base-jumping is a dangerous sport like many others extreme sports. Brévent is a very technical jump, for very experienced jumpers. Everybody should best-considered all the time and all the years of training to accomplish something like that.

“I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you're going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.”
