Barker Dam at Joshua Tree NP. This is my pic for todays "Sliders Sunday" contest, so it's "slightly" overprocessed...☺ Nonetheless it fits in my Joshua Tree series....

I created the sky and water reflection! I also used RYDYNAMIX for my HDR effect!

Another view from Barker Pass, along the Pacific Crest Trail.

Hope you have a good day whenever you see this. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments.

A Fox in the Dark

by Mary Oliver

A fox goes by

in the headlights

like an electric shock.

Then he pauses

at the edge of the road

and the heart, if it is still alive,

feels something---

a yearning

for which we have no name

but which we may remember,

years later,

in the darkness,

upon some other empty road.

I am very sad today as my dear cat Beltane died very suddenly. I love you dear Bells and will miss you so much <3

Thank-you to all who take the time to comment on my photos it is greatly appreciated,

Stay well my Flickr friends <3

Barker House is a historic home located at Edenton, Chowan County, North Carolina. The original house was built about 1782, and expanded during the 19th century. It is a 2+1⁄2-story frame dwelling with Georgian, Federal, and Greek Revival style design elements.

Not all of the amazing sunsets are found high on a mountain top here in Western North Carolina, no indeed, there’s plenty of sights to behold down in the mountain valleys. The colors roaring over the peaks, with the subtle rolling hills of the rural farmlands, and residential areas deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I wanted to examine the possibilities of getting a stunning shot in an area that, while I was familiar with, had never photographed before, what better place to start than ones own backyard. Only a small trip from my home, this field often has stunning lighting during sunset, so here I was to document the magical experience, and relay it on to you, just off the highway.

Taken at Barker Dam in Joshua Tree NP

We hiked out to the Barker Dam in Joshua Tree National Park. The dam was constructed many years ago to capture water for livestock of early settlers. It is amazing to see such a lovely pool of water in the desert.

Last picture of the first day. This road is called Barkers Lane (after a discussion with my wife) and has so very interesting industrial buildings. So it’s goodnight from him and goodnight from her.

Barker Dam in Joshua Tree National Park was built in the early 1900's by cattlemen to provide water for their livestock. It's usually pretty dry. I happened to hike here after a period of rain that filled up the reservoir. It's an easy hike with spectacular scenery along the way. At the concrete dam you can sit and look at the remarkable valley below you.

The Kaye E. Barker makes an appearance on the seldom visited Calumet River in Chicago. The Arthur Anderson and the Chicago Skyline can be seen in the background. The boat is headed to Ozinga to deliver a load of stone.

The Mark W Barker, the newest freight on the lakes, makes its first visit to Duluth. Greeted by number of boat fans, the Barker approaches the Duluth Ship Canal.

A little hint of fall color in the desert at Barker Dam in Joshua Tree National Park. Just a little sliding to enhance colors and adjust exposure. HSS!!

Interlake's 1952-built KAYE E. BARKER, destined for Marquette, makes an early morning transit up the Detroit River. Downtown Detroit provides the backdrop.

Last time I hiked to Barker Dam in Joshua Tree National Park (about a month ago) it wasn't much more than a mud puddle. But recent summer rain has helped fill it up (although it's still far from full). It's just so cool to see water like this in the middle of the desert and it makes for a great photo!

Death Valley NP. A beautiful little ranch with an infamous association.

It's back to FLYING PIKA season!! Without a doubt, these little ones are probably the most challenging wildlife subjects I photograph, and maybe, the most rewarding. American Pika live up high in the alpine environments and spend their summers collecting various tundra vegetation to store in their numerous winter stash piles scattered throughout the boulder and talus fields where they live. They are closely related to rabbits, but are much smaller. They survive on their rations throughout the winter. It's very important for them to be able to collect what they need to survive the harsh winters in the alpine. Pika are adorable, hardy, unbelievably quick, tiny ( about the size of a hamster) and just all around enjoyable.

The sinking sun lights up the last remaining foliage on November 30, the last day of meteorological autumn, reflected in the water of Barker's Pond. One of several abandoned quarries at the Gabriel and Selma Kleimola Reservation in Gloucester, MA, it is also referred to, in the early 20th century terminology, as Barker's Pit.

Some nice colour and clouds passing over Mt Barker summit yesterday at sunset.

Joshua Tree National Park - Barker Dam, also known as the Big Horn Dam, is a dam built as a water-storage reservoir. The dam was constructed by early cattlemen, including C. O. Barker, in 1900. It was raised in 1949 by rancher William F. Keys.

Mark W Barker was constructed over a period of time being completed in 2022, and sailing to Duluth on her maiden voyage. Here she is on the approach for the Duluth Shipping canal for her first of many arrivals into Duluth.

Here is the great James R. Barker heading down bound on the St. Mary’s River near where we are camping.

Barker Ranch - Death Valley

Initially used as a mining property from the 1940s, it later became infamous as the hideout of Charles Manson and his "family".

The ranch had a large building (only the foundation remains) and several out buildings. This is one of the few remaining out buildings.

A barker near the Jeepney terminal, took the shot while inside the car at downtown area.

They earn a few bucks for each full packed vehicle that leaves the terminal. As i was about to release the shutter, somebody calls him from behind and that's how he made this facial expression. Lols.

A true captured moment that in any other given time we can no longer replicate the same expression.... Mmmm.... feels good to be back on the street.

Barker Dam Lake: Joshua Tree National Park is located in California's Mojave desert, but there is an oasis formed by Barker Dam which was built by cowboys around 1900. This reservoir was constructed for cattle and mining. Today it is a refuge for birds and other park wildlife ... plus it’s a good photography subject.

Leaving downtown Detroit behind her, the KAYE E. BARKER is upbound for Marquette to load ore.

We are back at Lake Tahoe for a couple of weeks. There is no snow at 7000 ft and much of the snow at higher elevations has melted. So it is time to start planning a hike to Barker Pass, where this was taken last year.

Hope everyone has good week. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments.

Happy Saturated Saturday!

The Kaye E. Barker, upbound on the Detroit River, is destined for Stoneport Michigan.

Achilles, the super hero of Homer's Iliad, does not really shine in Pat Barker's retelling of the story ("The Silence of the Girls"). She describes his complex psychology as amphibious and oscillating between feminine vulnerability and ultra-brutal tantrums of violence. He appears to be an overgrown baby and his needs are equally infantile. Even his appalling sex life is that of mummy's lost little boy, permanently searching for his mum, hence oedipal in nature. Time to grow up - for all the super heroes wasting humanity's time.
