This shot was taken at Sainthal railway station in Uttar Pradesh on the metre gauge line between Bareilly and Pilibhit.

With work already started on construction of a new platform face, and with piles of broad gauge sleepers and fresh ballast mounds littering the area, it was clear that the serious work of gauge conversion was going to start very soon - especially given the rumoured target completion of end 2016. And the GC project is a serious undertaking too necessitating complete closure of the line to allow the existing infrastructure to be largely swept away.

Based on the alignment of the new platform it was evident that this building was going to be a victim, but the real subject of the shot were these sand-filled fire buckets. Possibly unused in decades but, in a country where little goes to waste, they'll no doubt find their way to new homes quickly and with little fuss. Yet as they proudly stand approaching the end of their life here, you just can't help but wonder what scenes they must have witnessed over the years, and maybe what stories they could tell.

North Eastern Railway metre gauge P 31911 has all the hallmarks of a turn of the century BESA design 4-6-0, but its life as a uniquely numbered unit only started in 1967.

It was one of 5 re-manufactured by the Izatnagar workshops using bits and pieces lying around from other withdrawn locomotives, so it exact provenance is unknown.

It was seen shunting at either Bareilly or nearby Izatnagar on 14 February 1979.

YDM4 6626 enters the loop with 52222 Mailani - Pilibhit Morning Passenger into Mala Station . The Mala Forest is a part of the Pilibhit National Park [ Pilibhit Tiger Reserve ]. The Mala station is situated in the dense forest of Mala range and is full of wide variety of Flora and Fauna including India's National Animal , The Royal Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Bears and others to name a few. The Forest area is one of the few patches of Dense Forest remaining in Uttar Pradesh , A State which has the highest Population in the country. This Railway Line was due to be closed for Gauge Conversion to Broad Gauge on 15'th November 2017 but due to some issues with the Company to whom the Project had been allocated , It's conversion has been Postponed for a few months. The Railways has kept a Speed Limit of around 50 Kmph towards Mailani for upto 7 kms, In order to preserve the WildLife and to keep a check on Wild-Life related accidents.

The Train Parked on the Left is Basically left to be broken up and to be sold as scrap since , this line will be closing down soon so all the old stock of coaches and Locomotives will be scrapped. It's a Pity that a few years back this section of Indian Railways starting from Lucknow stretched all the way upto Bareilly and far beyond till Jaipur Via Kasganj Mathura Achnera has been reduced to a mere 70 kms stretch barring the Shahjahanpur- Pilibhit Stretch and the Mailani - Nepalganj Stretch has all been closed and converted to Broad Gauge under the Uni-Gauge System. Legendary Trains Like Gokul Express , Nainital Express stormed past this station only till 2 years back but with times changing Thick and Fast It's time to move on and cherish the Memories left. With the Gauge conversion of this stretch and the Lucknow Aishbagh To Mailani Stretch soon to be completed , We may get to see the Legendary Nainital Express Back on Tracks and resume it's Journey once again but only time will tell when it happens.

Framed by the station sign an Indian Railways employee carries out a seemingly futile task of rearranging the dust at Bhojipura Junction.

The metre and broad gauge lines run side-by-side here and the steps take would-be passengers from the the MG platform to the BG platform amply showing the difference in scale, and hinting at the infrastructure work necessary under the gauge conversion programme.

A pair of Collared dove made a nest at my hometown Guava's tree. Their nests usually just consist of a platform of sticks.

Collared doves are monogamous and can breed continuously in warm regions. When a pair has eggs in the nest, the female will incubate the eggs during the day before swapping over at dusk for the male to incubate through the night.

One factor behind the collared dove’s success is its ability to breed year-round if the weather is mild. These are smaller, with creamy grey-buff plumage. Adults have a black half-collar on the back of their necks. Their typical call is a clear and persistent three note ‘coo Coo cuk’.
