Of the infinite variety of fruits which spring from the bosom of the earth,
the trees of the wood are the greatest in dignity.
- Susan Fenimore Cooper
The Crack Willows at my local lake inspire me to photograph them all year round. Even as winter sets in and the branches are bared they provide wonderful natural gnarly shapes. The last coloured leaves are still showing slightly to the willow on the right.

She Walks in Beauty
BY LORD BYRON
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Well, somebody said a participant to the masturi forgot his pant... this is not exactly the case as going bare-butted like this is traditional for men during a matsuri. I have seen nicer butts, but this is the best I could shoot.
From wikipedia (as suggested by myasu), some explanation about this outfit:
Fundoshi (褌?) is the traditional Japanese undergarment for adult males, made from a length of cotton. Before World War II the fundoshi was the main form of underwear for Japanese adult males; however it went out of use quickly after the war with the advent of new underwear, such as briefs and trunks, on the Japanese market.
Nowadays, the fundoshi is mainly used not as underwear but as festival (matsuri) clothing at Hadaka Matsuri or, sometimes, as swimwear.
There are several types of fundoshi, including rokushaku, kuroneko, mokko and etchū.
The rokushaku fundoshi is a length of cloth, the dimensions being one shaku (34 cm / 14 inches) wide and six shaku (2.3 m / 92 to 96 inches) long; roku is Japanese for six, hence roku-shaku. The fundoshi is often twisted to create a thong effect at the back.
Etchū fundoshi is also a length of cloth, however it has a strip of material at the waist to form a fastening or string. The dimensions are 14 inches width by about 40 inches length, and it is tied with the material strip in front of the body. Etchū fundoshi was the form of fundoshi most popular among Japanese adult males as underwear from early 1900s to the end of the World War II.
Little Tokyo; familiar territory that changes its face at a certain hour of the day. By day, she's a crowded street, flooded by masses of tourists and citizens hustling and bustling to make a living or spending their hard earned money on trinkets that sparkle interests. By night, she's a lonely, quiet stretch of road welcoming anyone who lacks sleep or for those looking for a bite to eat during the wee hours.

This title has been in my head since I first got a Fleetwood mac album of the same name in another century. It's nothing like the album artwork, but the title fits. My own texture used.
bare road/bare feet.
do not worry, these are not my feet.
they belong to my brother.
being human is weird.
have you ever just sat and looked at your feet? like reallllyy looked at them. and just wiggled your toes and think about how odd it is. or your fingers. or a tree. or a blade of grass. or a rock. or hair. or anything in the world.
life.
life intrigues me.
and baffles me continuously.
I've taken a load of my pictures to hang in a new office, which is exciting but now my walls are so bare!

Four days of unprecedented record heat, snow is revealing bare spots in the woods. I can't help but wonder about the small denizens that live in the tundra duff, and how they will survive the rest of the winter when temperatures drop back down to.... (maybe) -30 F (-34C) average, with no winter snow protection.
Deciduous trees may be triggered to begin bud production when temperatures above freezing are sustained for 48-60 hours, and we certainly have had that in these past few days.
For four days now, we have experienced the warmest temperatures ever recorded in my area of east-central Alaska. In fact, the warmest event in any winter ever between November 2 and March 2.
Ever.
Originally wanted to take a photo from on top of the hill, looking down at the island but there were hundreds of people swarming all over so opted for a position down near the water. Really nice place for photographing sunset.
High on the limestone fells in a very exposed position is Bare House (aptly named) above the town of Grassington. 20 to 30 min walk to the nearest farm. Only used now as a shelter for sheep
Grassington is a market town and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England.
We drove to Newtown hoping to take some shots around the pretty estuary but on arrival discovered that the tide was out, leaving behind a murky mudbath. On our return to Totland I inadvertently took an "Access Only" road and just before the exit I spotted this proud tree standing alone in an open field. I ended up with a pair of muddy Skechers (sneakers) and one foot soaked to the skin but I feel it was worth it.
BNSF train XDHTEDY5 soaks up the morning light at Baring, MO. If I recall correctly, this was a unit train of protein pellets packed into old BN coal gons with a few cars of general merchandise tacked onto the head end.
