Japan Barbie® doll is inspired by the beautiful noblewomen of her country who were well trained in the martial arts, and experts in horsemanship, swordsmanship, and archery. She comes dressed in a striking red patterned kimono with black detailing. Multi-colored knee-high platform sandals and golden fan add to her allure. Red and white flowers accent her long dark hair, and striking face paint gives her an exotic air.
Also, new to the agency this year, Sofia comes in at number 11.

Lilia is the daughter of Aro Efron & Bridgette Pine-Efron (making her Bunny's Great niece). Bridgette Pine-Efron is the daughter of Jonathan Pine (Bunny's older brother) and Annabelle Hunter (making her Bunny's niece), she is the mother of Lilia.
Deedee Davidson walks in and Bunny Pine greets her, while Chelan plays with her nephew Ledger on the floor. Lynn is still showing off the Baby's First album that Bunny was gifted.
Deedee: (waves and smiles at Bunny) "Hey, don't you look pretty! Hope I didn't miss too much, traffic was terrible"
Bunny: (Waves and greets Deedee) "Hey you! Thanks! I feel pretty today... surprisingly, usually I just feel all fat and bloated" (laughs) " No, you really didn't miss too much, I have just been opening some of the gifts, I'm taking a French fry break now though"
Deedee: "Oh good, I didn't want to be that girl, you know the one who shows up when the party is about to end... " (laughs) "Oh, French fry break? Hmm... must be a weird craving or something"
Lynn: "Deedee, there is still plenty of food and drinks in the kitchen, make yourself at home."

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Meet "Girdle!" This gal did not have a name or identity for the longest time. But she was chosen at random to be a Soda Shoppe worker for one of our weird Youtube doll skits, and as we were playing it out, she somehow got the name, as well as a persona Colleen acted out. Of course, even before Girdle came to life, she was a personal favorite of ours! Growing up, Colleen and I both had McDonald's figurines of this lady. We were both captivated by her cultural styling and her two braids. I recall that we played with both our figures all the time when using our doll houses or any kind of miniature. Years later, we ended up giving all of our McDonald's toys away because we weren't using them. However, both of us still have vivid memories of our Dutch Barbie dolls, and we still held onto the desire we had for the full sized version. In that way, this gal became somewhat of an icon. That's why were were both ecstatic to find her at the local flea market in 2013. We were perusing down one of the last aisles one Sunday, when we spotted a cardboard box with loads of Barbies sticking out of it. I was drawn to Dutch Barbie, Sun Jewel Teresa, as well as some Tyco Little Mermaid dolls. These plastic friends were all reasonably priced at $2 each, and their condition was impeccable. Girdle was still donning her original outfit, sans shoes. But I wouldn't hold it against her not having shoes...I mean what secondhand Barbie has her shoes usually?!!! Although Girdle was in wonderful condition, she of course got a bath, boil wash, and her clothes laundered. This little extra effort made her look brand spanking new! She is by far one of my favorite Dolls of the World Barbies in my collection. Having her is a childhood dream come true, and I still feel the same wonderment and jollies whenever I see this gal hanging out with my other Barbies!
On the 6th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, six geese a laying.....

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Although the 90s Dolls of the World dolls look less expensive in their packaging than the early 2000s, I have to say that quality wise they are very compatible. Perhaps the 90s dolls look more "cheesy" because they resemble a regular 90s Barbie more so. This results in a "Barbie playing cultural dress up" vibe, that is not apparent with the later Dolls of the World series (in part, some of this has to do with head mold selection). I have other Asian Dolls of the World Barbies from later years, and this 1993 gal's ensemble compares wonderfully. Her garments all have metal snap closures, rather than picky velcro. The weight and sturdiness of the fabric chosen for the kimono is also applaudable. The colors of this outfit seem very authentic, while also still complimenting the gorgeous Barbie. This reminds me of one of my mom's bathrobes that I had to wear to school one day for a Japanese style tea thing we had in the school cafeteria (I know it was Japanese, not Chinese, but my mom's bathrobe was technically neither). These plain, simple black flats seem appropriate, as more ornate footwear would not be as accurate. Plus, the clothing itself is such a show stopper, you don't really need any additional embellishments!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Ah, looking at this ensemble takes me back to my early childhood! I remember seeing me and Colleen's matching McDonald's Dutch Barbies scattered across our bedroom floors, donning a mini version of this getup. I recall fantasizing regularly about having the full sized Barbie. But I was too young to remember when this gal was actually in stores. I probably wouldn't have recognized our Dutch Barbie if she had been naked. After all, the early 90s Dolls of the World girls look pretty much like your standard Barbies from that era, wearing cultural clothes. So naturally it was a must to score Dutch Barbie in her factory getup. Luckily, we were able to do so in 2013, when we found Girdle (aka Dutch Barbie) in nearly mint condition at the local flea market. Her outfit was still flawless. I highly doubt that Girdle was played with much, if at all. Perhaps the child who owned her previously only displayed her, or maybe they just weren't that fanatical about redressing and styling their dolls' hair. I know I would have blown this doll apart had I gotten her as a young girl. She would have lost her hat, her hair, and maybe even her head. That's why it was probably for the best that we acquired Miss Girdle much later in life!
Bunny opens her gift from Trini; it is a yellow plush teddy bear. Meanwhile, Lynn chats with Kirks sister Denise and her granddaughter Regan while Spencer (Kirks daughter from a previous marriage) watches her half-sister open the gift.
Bunny: (Exclaims loudly) "Trini, I love it, it will go perfectly with our yellow scheme in the nursery, it is so soft! Thank you!"
Denise: "The baby shower turned out lovely Lynn, I think everyone really pulled through for Bunny. I cannot wait to meet my great niece or nephew.. I hope its a little boy!"
Lynn: (laughs) " Well Denise, I am hoping for a little grandson also, because let's face it, my side of the family needs to balance out the girls. Although, I will love my grandbaby the same, whether it be a girl or boy. What do you think Aunt Bunny will have Regan?"
Regan: "Hmm.... well I want it to be a girl, I think they're so cute and so much fun to take shopping... So yep, I want a girl!"
Bunny turns around and squeals when she sees who is standing there.
Bunny: "Ohhhhhh my gosh! Caridee!! I didn't think you were going to make it!" (gives Caridee a big hug)
Caridee: "Girl, did you really think I would miss this exciting celebration? Your the first of our friends to have a baby! I cannot wait to spoil her... it is going to be a girl after all, because I said so" (Laughs)
Bunny: "I do not really care either way, as long as my baby is beautiful and healthy"
Caridee: (playfully rolls her eyes) "That is such a pregnant lady thing to say... and of course your baby will be beautiful look at you and Ross."
Lynn: (shouting to everyone in the room) "Everyone, this is one of Bunnys friends from her modeling classes she used to take, Caridee Duncan. I am sure you all remember seeing her around, she is Muffy and Donnies daughter."

(L-R) Victoria Adams, Mckey Adams, Bunny Pine, Lynn Adams, Denise Pine
(Sitting down) Chelan Sprouse, Ledger Sprouse
Victoria Adams is the sister of Posh Adams (Lynn, Mckey, Janice, Alice, Rosie, Posie's mother) so Victoria is Bunny's Great Aunt. Chelan is Joel and Cole Sprouse's younger sister, she is kind of in charge of watching Joel Sprouse and Mason Pine-Sprouse;s song Ledger. Mason is Bunny's half brother, he is married to Joel Sprouse, they adopted Ledger when he was only two months old. Denise is the sister of Kirk Pine (who is Bunny's father) so she is Bunny's Aunt.
Bunny: "Well, it is time for this pregnant lady to have her French fry break, thank goodness Mcdonalds is right down the street. I get the weirdest French fry cravings"
Chelan: (Laughs) "I hear pregnancy does that to a woman... I am so glad I won't have to worry about any of that for a longgggggggg time."
Bunny: (smiles at her) "Yes, I am glad to hear that, keep it that way. Babies change every part of your life and a lot of people aren't ready for them when they come."
Lynn: (overhears their conversation and quietly talks to Denise and Regan) "I never thought I would see the day when my daughter, Bunny Pine, gave such good advice. I am very proud of the woman she is becoming now that she has her own family to think about"
Denise: (smiles and nods) "Yes, I agree, this is quite a change from the self absorbed party girl she used to be.. I think Ross is the best thing for her, he has turned her into the beautiful lady she should be"
(L-R) Victoria Adams, Regan Phoneix Dimera, Bunny Pine, Ledger Sprouse, Lynn Adams
Bunnys great Aunt Victoria sits and talks with Bunny's niece Regan during the baby shower. Ledger is still sitting with his Aunt Bunny and Lynn.

Trini: "You look beautiful Bunny. Here ya go sweetie, I hope you like it"
Bunny: "Thank you, I am sure I will love it. I am glad you were able to make it! I hope my mother isn't treating you too bad..."
Trini: (laughs) "Oh, your mother isn't anything I can't handle... besides, she is on her best behavior today."

***The doll on the right is wearing 2001 Fashion Avenue Kelly Styles Rainy Day Play #29528.
PERSONAL FUN FACT: My first three Friends of the World Kelly dolls all mean a great deal to me. They were one of my Christmas gifts in 2003. That was the year that Dad allowed Colleen and me to look on eBay for our gifts. This was so awesome because we always had a fancy for out of date stuff. Colleen took advantage of the opportunity and built up her collection of Skipper dolls, whereas I went for the Kelly dolls. I think if memory serves me correctly that Dad picked this set out for me. I always fancied Dolls of the World Barbies, and this pack is like the Kelly version. Dad spotted the listing when I was looking at various Kelly items on eBay, and suggested we bid on it. I did not realize until Christmas morning that we had actually won these dolls. This set is darling, although admittedly I didn't really play with it that much. I had gotten so many awesome dolls that year for Christmas, that it was easy to overlook them. But each doll had her own personal merit. Of course, who could deny that Kenya Kelly was the most striking/unique of the trio. Her flocked hair made her stand out from all the other dolls in my Kelly collection. AND she had the most gorgeous dark skin! The main reason I didn't play more with Kenya Kelly was actually because I didn't like how her bright red earrings clashed with the outfits I put her in. But looking at her earrings now, I must say that it's super cool to see a Kelly doll with pierced ears. Kenya Kelly was probably the most played with of the threesome. I recall using her in various doll games every once in a while for the next few years, until my dolly hiatus in 2006. When I look at these gals, I always think about my dad--I think they are extra special because he is the one who picked them out for my collection.
My duplicated Kenya Kelly joined the family in 2014, almost ten years after the others. She was in a small baggie of Kelly and Happy Family dolls I purchased at my local flea market. I thought it would be fun having her as a duplicate, since her dark skin would make her marvelous to dress up. I found something that was red, like her earrings too! I must say that Kenya Kelly has amazingly sturdy flocking, which is surprising considering I've seen a lot of balding flocked Mattel dolls over the years. I accidentally soaked her for a few hours with the other dolls from her mini lot. Somehow not a scrap of flocking budged. I'm very thankful for that, and her flocking is still super soft, like petting a bunny!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I have to say that the outfits sold on the Fiends of the World Kelly dolls are better for display/collectable purposes rather than play. That's not to say that I didn't occasionally find use for one of these get ups when I was younger. In fact, many of the accessories from this set ended up with my Kelly dolls' costumes and fixings. I do remember playing with the "lion" figurine rather often--I simply removed the fur collar and used him as a cat instead. So I suppose that Kenya Kelly had one of the more versatile accessories. That being said, I never remember playing with her dress. As for the shoes, they are fabric and are VERY tiny. I was so scared of losing them, that they spent most of their time in my Kelly shoe pouch (back then I stored my Kelly shoes in a Lisa Frank pencil case). They have very tight fitting elastics, but yet that doesn't mean that these sandals stay on well at all!

I was recently asked by a Flick Friend to photograph my entire collection. I am flattered that someone had enough intrest in my dolls! It was a great idea, it will take me a few days as I am short on time and have accumulated a lot of dolls (so far 7 boxes/totes full and counting), but I plan on photographing every last head (I have a lot of dolls who are waiting for new bodies). I just made this photo to help organize my collection and make it easier to view the whole collection, because I take photos of them in large groups. ( I try to label them with their name in at least one of each group shot).

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This doll is a combination of two of my favorite things--Dolls of the World and Asian Barbies! Let me explain. So my very first, brand new, store bought Barbie was Sun Jewel Kira. I actually did not pick out Miss Kira for myself. Rather, she was a dolly that my sister, Colleen, chose for me on her birthday. Dad didn't want me getting jealous, so he had Colleen pick us each out a doll. She selected Kira for me because she thought her black hair and large earrings would remind me of princess Jasmine (she totally hit the nail on the head). Ever since that day, I've always had a fondness for Asian Barbies, specifically, but not limited to, Kira. As for the Dolls of the World series, well that was something I've enjoyed collecting since I was about eleven. I started with a 1995 Dolls of the World Indian Barbie, named Nova. I found her at an indoor flea market and fell in love at first sight. I realized that in stores, Mattel had revived the Dolls of the Word line. I was very intrigued and managed to score a few. As an adult collector, my first store bought Barbie was from the Dolls of the World line, and I always made a special effort to purchase any I found secondhand. I was more willing to pay extra as well for DOTW ladies. So you can understand why this Chinese Barbie was a must for me. I believe Colleen and I stumbled upon her (doll on left) at the local flea market during the 2014 season. That year we struck gold in terms of finding inexpensive boxed dolls. Miss Chinese Barbie was still attached to her original cardboard backing. But for some strange reason, her outer box was missing. All her contents were still intact, and the doll herself was minty. I want to say she was only $4 or $5, which was a steal considering her condition. I love how much this gal reminds me of late 90s Kira dolls, like my Pearl Beach lady. She also looks very prestigious in her traditional Chinese kimono! She is certainly one of the best additions to my Dolls of the World collection, in terms of looks, price, and condition!
My gal on the right side of this photo was almost nearly as nice as my first. Sure, she wasn't still on her card...her shoes were missing. But this lady was pristine! She was included in the 2024 "Great 80s Lot" which we bought for $20 at our local flea market. Included in the pink vinyl case were 16 dolls, primarily from the 80s. There were a few 90s ones too, like this Barbie. The seller told us he had gotten the dolls from an estate clean out. It looked like they might have been at an auction house at one point, and that they were most likely never played with (only displayed). Of course they all needed baths...especially because of the dry rotted hair elastics. This doll is such a beauty, and I'm so glad to have her!
All of the dolls I found came out of the same dolly bin and were a bargain at $2 each, dressed (tho' not always in their original clothes).
I rarely find My Scene dolls in this area, so this seemed like great luck to find 8 of them all at once, and in nice condition, IMO - not to mention that I almost missed a large zipper baggie stuffed with extra clothes and accessories priced at $6.

Challenge 7 required the models to dress in a geeky way that was still cute, our hint this time was to look up styles from Ugly Betty or The Big Bang Theory.
Shaylani's styling is based off of America Ferrera in Ugly Betty. I see a lot of outfits with mixed match patterns and colors. Also, her prints may be mixed and matched but the colors somehow go together so I tried to aim for that when I chose Shaylanis clothes. I chose a different light setting this week, because my photos often are too bright so I hope this is an improvement. Quality isn't the greatest, I had to use my mobile camera, sorry!
