This past Friday marked the opening reception of the Hanna-Barbarians group show at mph. The gallery was packed from 6-9pm with a steady flow of artists, fans and those curious to view the cartoon menagerie. A big thank you to all of the participating artists and those who attended the opening. The show will be up at the gallery until May 17 and all work is up for sale at www.myplasticheart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY...

Thanks to Vin for the photos.

The lego barbarian tribes are on the move for settlements to control and take their wealth. Soldiers of the northern province in the Boreal kingdom take swift action against them. The barbarians have already raided nearby settlements by the time the army arrives. The army makes short work of them as these barbarians have very little experience fighting in wooded areas. The expert swordsmen of the boreal kingdom live up to there reputation.

How thoughtful of Mego Conan; a Goblin head for Sandy Obitsu (which, judging by the niff, he's been keeping in the back of his closet for the past few weeks)... Conan's not overly impressed with Sandy's gift for him either; a new tie.

As for Pinky, she got her wish for a rugged Action Man adventurer.

(though next Xmas she'll be asking for a re-stringing set to repair him!)

I like making rocks. Irregular bases are cool. And barbarians just make everything awesome. So, yeah. :)

Enjoy, fellas!

Conan the Barbarian (1932 to Present) was created by Howard in a series of fantasy stories published in Weird Tales magazine in 1932. Conan is a Cimmerian. The Cimmerians were based on the Celts, a barbarian tribal group of early Europe.) One of his grandfathers, however, came from a southern tribe. He was born on a battlefield and is the son of a village blacksmith. Conan matured quickly as a youth and, by age fifteen, he was already a respected warrior who had participated in the destruction of the Aquilonian outpost of Venarium. After its demise, he was struck by wanderlust and began the adventures chronicled by Howard, encountering skulking monsters, evil wizards, tavern wenches, and beautiful princesses. He roamed throughout the Hyborian Age nations as a thief, outlaw, mercenary and pirate.

Time capsule from 1985. Like new Nishiki Barbarian, beautiful original condition.

...I don't know if Bjorn does yoga, or if this pose is possible for someone of his size. But I'd started the pose last night and needed to work on something to keep me sane through the day...

The pose itself looks peaceful but I doubt Bjorn would stretch as a form of meditation...probably just to keep his muscles limber or what have you. So...MAYBE he does Yoga? Not a lot to say, I need to find something else to do to occupy my brain.

She may not be to everyone's taste, but I thought she was quite lovely in looks and personality. But I may be biased as my solitary "renfaire romance" was with a self-described winter barbarian. ;-)

Late at night, a warrior spreads out a treasure map on the rough table of the local tavern. A burly brute in savage times, he roams the ancient lands and kingdoms in search of riches.

The statue shows a defeated Dacian Barbarian. He looks proud, and his afflicted demeanor expresses the suffering that comes to those who rebel against the dominion of Rome.

The most striking thing is the modernity of his clothing when compared to that of the traditional dresses of the Romans in the I - II century AD. He is wearing real pants, and his shoes have the style of modern boots.

These are the minifigures I made for the ABS Contest Entry.

The minifigures are really the highlights of this MOC in my opinion. I wanted to make everyone really unique. They do not have names, but all have some backstories, so I will be defining them by distinguishable features.

The newest Recruit of this team is really the one holding the Mystical Orb. I wanted a reason for the attack. Perhaps our monster is like a Dragon but this guy likes mystical object than gold or perhaps he was the guardian of the Mystical Orb. This poor guy is just out of his league, and I just love Emmet’s face. “Oh my CROM!”

The Mustache man is more of the food preparer of the group. He hunts for fish and cooks up some tasty snacks like turkey legs and apples (The only food I have, and you can see them spilled in the boat in some images.). Because of the whole barbarian idea, I wanted to give him some plating, but have it be weird. This guy likes to use every part of the crabs and therefore has some armor on his back from crab shells.

The Weapons Expert and really the Muscle of the group is the guy with the helmet. Two axes, full armor, and he’s just all business, I mean just look at that face! He has my favorite pose of all the crew on the boat. His favorite weapon is the axe and the way he uses them in the scene is just so perfect in my opinion.

The Leader of course has one of my favorite heads. There is something about the way this guy's beard looks to where he is a leader, but knows how to be serious and have fun. He’s shaggy, but still not a mess; it just works. He of course has to be the leader because he has killed and skinned a giant skunk and now wears the pelt, you know after washing it a few times. I will probably never use a Chima minifig head for any reason so this is the perfect opportunity.

Images of them in action can be found on MOCpages: LINK

EDIT: Except for when the Wayback Machine copies almost no images...
