Aadlen Brothers U-Pick Parts, 11590 Tuxford St. and 11409 Penrose St. in Sun Valley, California. The auto wrecking yard would be closing as of January 1, 2016, within a month of this photo. Home to hundreds of derelict vehicles, the site was also a refuge for ephemera such as Bruce, the 25-foot-long Universal Studios castoff that was the only surviving shark replica from the mold that was used in “Jaws.” I don't know what's become of Bruce since the yard closed down, or even what's become of the yard... I haven't been back to the site since my one and only visit, when I took this photo.
The yellow boomerang-y form in the background, from which dangles a magnetic hoist, had stood for years at the Laurel Canyon Car Wash, a little over 6 miles away at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Ventura Boulevards in Studio City. The Valley Relics Museum was reportedly interested in acquiring the 1960-ish vintage pylon; I hope that worked out.
Make what you will of the Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton imagery in the photo.
