My parents sat beneath this Banyan tree when I was a child perhaps sitting on this bench. Banyan trees are quite unique because their branches produce aerial roots that later become accessory trunks and this is a wonderful example of this specimen. The slender trunks are indeed part of the main tree.

Wyndham Kaua'i Beach Villas

Lihue, Kauai, HI

This was shot the last night I spent in Kauai before going home the next day. Besides the missed sunset along the Napali Coast because of rain, I never ventured to any of the beaches on the southwest side of the island to photograph the sunset over the ocean.

Right before the sun went down on this last night, I just walked outside my condo and took this and some other photos along the banyan tree lined drive into the resort.

Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay fig or Australian banyan, is a large evergreen banyan tree of the family Moraceae native to eastern Australia, from the Wide Bay–Burnett region in the north to the Illawarra in New South Wales, as well as Lord Howe Island. Its common name is derived from Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. It is best known for its imposing buttress roots. As Ficus macrophylla is a strangler fig, seed germination usually takes place in the canopy of a host tree and the seedling lives as an epiphyte until its roots establish contact with the ground. It then enlarges and strangles its host, eventually becoming a freestanding tree by itself. Individuals may reach 60 m in height. The large leathery, dark green leaves are 15–30 cm long. 20473

Handroanthus heptaphyllus, commonly referred to as the pink trumpet tree or pink tab, is a Bignoniaceae tree native to tropical and sup-tropical regions of South America. It grows in the high forest watershed of the Paraná River, Paraguay River and Uruguay River. It has a limited distribution, almost exclusively inhabiting low lands with wet and deep soils, where it forms part of the upper layer of tree cover.

It is the national tree of Paraguay, declared as such in the Nº4631 Act of May 10, 2012, as proposed by the School of Chemical Sciences at the National University of Asunción in celebration of the bicentennial of Paraguay's independence.

Few cities in the world capture the imagination as much as Bangkok. Ornate palaces that host royal processions, Buddhist temples that witness monks chanting ancient temples, canals that lead to a maze of water markets, night bazaars that never sleep - have long proved a powerful magnet for travelers. In this sprawling metropolis, Banyan Tree Bangkok, a 5-star luxury hotel in Sathorn road, offers a spectacular rooftop restaurant and bar - Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar on the elevated 61th floor. The hostess Suritawa welcomes us with the hospitality Thailand is famous for. The greater Bangkok area has a population over 14 million. This has in turn shifted the country from being a rather homogeneous Thai population to an increasingly vibrant mix of Western, Indian and Chinese people, giving the city a cosmopolitan status. Bangkok is known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon. The ceremonial name translates it to The city of angels.

Vertigo & Moon rooftop bar at Banyan Tree Bangkok is located on the 61st floor, offering an outstanding 360-degree view of the Bangkok skyline and its surroundings. It is a double setting, where the restaurant part is called Vertigo and the bar is called Moon Bar. Opening hours: 6.30pm - 11pm (weather permitting). It's one of the best bars in the world! We were lucky these clouds of rain just passed by.

Lahaina, Maui, HI

One of the few places I was able to fly my drone. This view shows the marina, the old Courthouse, and the large Banyan Tree which covers the park in back.

Big tourist destination. And a beautiful little village with lots of history.

From the Lahaina Town website:

In 1802, King Kamehameha made Lahaina the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He built a brick palace there, along with residences and other royal buildings, and Lahaina served as the center of the Hawaiian government for over 50 years, until permanently relocating to Honolulu for its harbor.

Happy Tree-mendous Thursday!! :))

The banyan tree in Lahaina, in Maui, Hawaii, United States, was planted on April 24, 1873, in Lahaina to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of first American Protestant mission. The banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) known in Hawaiian as paniana, located in the Courthouse Square, which was renamed Banyan Tree Park covering 1.94 acres, is not only the largest in the state but also in the United States. The tree was a gift from missionaries in India. A mere 8 feet (2.4 m) when planted, it has grown to a height of about 60 feet (18 m) and has rooted into 16 major trunks, apart from the main trunk, with the canopy spread over an area of about 0.66 acres (0.27 ha).- Wikipedia

Old banyan trees are very different from other trees. It seems to have conscious growth branches, To adapt to changes in the external environment, This makes its appearance very special.
