The thing is that this car drove up to the church where there is a food bank inside. I had a chat with this eminently nice couple who brought a basket full of tins etc. for the food bank. They enjoyed riding open in this vintage sports car and preferred it to their heavy and expensive electric limousine. And why did I feel uneasy about this scene? I believe that this kind of charity, well-intentioned as it is, does not address the root cause of poverty which, in turn, forces people to use food banks. The other thing is that, socially, there is no contact between donor and taker. The two will never meet - and perhaps they would not want to. Fuji X-Pro1 plus Helios 44M-7 wide-open.

Bank Bottom Mill, later known as Marsden Mill, was from 1824 an important centre for the production of woollen cloth in Marsden, West Yorkshire, England. Originally a fulling mill, Bank Bottom Mill reached its heyday in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries under the ownership of the Crowther family, in particular John Edward Crowther, a businessman and philanthropist. However, the cloth industry declined in the late twentieth century, and production of woollen cloth finally ceased in 2003.

Wolla Bank Pit Nature Reserve

We hoped to see Starling murmurations but they were just coming across in small and fairly large flocks but going immediately down into the reed beds. We were at first puzzled by not witnessing murmurations but then realised we were a single week earlier due to several appointments this week. Dentist Opticians etc etc..but I still enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere whilst Jonathan took the dogs for a swim in the North Sea. The road leading to the car park had some Teasels etc and a nice bit of fence so I still enjoyed the sunset light between a huge bank of clouds and the fields inland. Only myself there which was a give away that I wouldn’t get much in the way of Starling shots but I didn’t mind. There is so much more to being close to Chapel St Leonards than many people realise..

Wolla Bank Pit is flooded clay pits with Wolla Bank Reedbed on the opposite side of the road. A range of chalk-land flora as well as colonies of common spotted-orchid. Good for butterflies and dragonflies.

I hope I’m not giving away a well kept secret 🤔

Btw, I forgot to mention that I had steady shot turned on for a few of the hand held Starlings shots of them going down into the reed beds the opposite side of the road but noticed my shots were blurry…doh. Soon realised I had braced my elbows on the top of the fence making an effective tripod…..easy done but I realised fairly quickly as it happens Sue :)

The National Trust opened the glorious Secret Garden at Quarry Bank. Riverside walks, meandering paths and raised beds are some of the features that have been rediscovered during restoration work.

Built in 1784 Quarry Bank was one of the world's first factories and became a thriving cotton mill at a defining moment in our history

This tiny person was having a rest from running around at Morton lochs.

Taken from the South Bank of the Thames close to Tower Bridge. Construction has changed the face of the City in my life time but having not visited for a while, the change seems to be even more dramatic. To the left, 20 Fenchurch Street, otherwise known as the Walkie Talkie building due to it's shape which tends to remind me of a somewhat squashed loaf of bread. To the right and now very much hidden from view is the Gherkin building which once stood virtually unobstructed from view.
