When there is a hint of mist in the air and some broken cloud, the light and shadow on the rolling hills above the Derwent Valley can be magical on a winter's day. This image was taken from the side of the road that runs below Bamford Edge.
Another of many images I took from the roadside whilst making slow progress to a meeting earlier this week...
Another 10 mile hike complete, this is the location of the car park right next to the reservoir, tea in a flask, and a lovely slice of chocolate brownie ended this walk on a high, It always helps having camping chairs in the car, we sat ourselves here and enjoyed the beautiful view across the valley.
A stitch of three images I took from the roadside below Bamford Edge, Derbyshire, yesterday morning. I was driving to a meeting and even though I was in danger of running late, I just couldn't resist pulling over to take some shots of the light on the hills.

Two images stacked to give sharp focus throughout the image.
Another image taken last Wednesday. The low sun was creating some great light and shadows across the rolling hills flanking the River Derwent, Derbyshire
An early morning view of the western spillway of Ladybower Reservoir. This view shows that the water level is only a few metres from overflowing. A remarkable change in levels compared to just a few weeks ago.
A panorama from Bamford Edge taking in Mam Tor, Win Hill, Kinder Scout, Crook Hill, the Upper Derwent Valley and Derwent Edge.
A four photo panorama from the south-western corner of Ladybower Reservoir. Showing the western spillway and valve house.
This was taken with a wide-angle lens, hence the distortion of some elements of the image.
The western spillway or 'plughole' of a dry-looking Ladybower Reservoir.
Oh and could the person who removed the 'plug' from the plughole, please return it!
The western spillway of Ladybower Reservoir standing high and dry above the water level of the reservoir.
Well, the mid-ground really! I had hoped some athletic young thing would solo up Gargoyal Flake, but sadly these two were the only option available at short notice 😆

Some lovely light on the foreground gritstone and just enough cloud and mist.
Bamford Edge at dawn, overlooking mist rising from the River Derwent. A fine place to sit and stare. The moorland here is full of cairns.

This could be my favourite image form Sunday's shoot.
Back away from the edge is a wonderful tumble down dry stone wall amongst the heather.
Thankfully it's not been disassembled by people to make cairns (yet). This happened at one of my favourite places and ruined it for me,
The weather was dull, windy and damp but its still a nice view of Ladybower Reservoir from the lower slopes of Crook Hill.

Another slightly compromised shot because it includes the eroded ground the right.
But I wanted to include Derwent Edge to the upper right which looked beautiful in its purple coat. There was great colour in the sky over there too.
At longest end of my wide angle zoom to bring the distance hills closer.
