Hot air balloons are inflated each night for “Balloon Glow” at the Balloons Over Bavarian Inn event held annually on Memorial Day weekend in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Here's an archive shot from the 2016 edition, processed for Sliders Sunday.

Die Hessekabb ist DIE Traditionsveranstaltung des Ballon-Club Kinzig e.V. Langenselbold (BCKL). 20 Ballonteams aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum treffen sich alle 2 Jahre zu Ostern in Sichtweite der Ronneburg, um den Frühling zu begrüßen und den Start in die Ballonfahrer-Saison zu feiern. In gemütlicher Atmosphäre werden Ballonfahrten gemacht und Zuschauer aus nah und fern kommen, um sich das anzusehen.Leider hat dieses Jahr das Wetter nicht mitgespielt, so daß einige Ballons nicht starten konnten.Es finden Wettkämpfe statt, und dem Gewinner wird zum Abschluß die "Hessekapp" verliehen!
In the old days everyone used to walk around, tip their hat to one another, and say: "how DOO you do?" Very formal. Very British. The question begged the reply, "How do I do what?"
Grammatically, "how are you?" would be better.
And then the Americans invented the telephone along with the word "hello" to let it be known that there was someone online. It was a short word used as a preface to quickly get to the point on why they were calling. The similar-sounding "haallooo" was already taken. The word was used to clear out the cobwebs in the hollow pipes that made up a ship's intercom system and ready a ship's crew to listen up. Unfortunately, to an American audience haalloo sounded like a blowhard captain about to bark an order to his underlings.
No, the crisper "hello" fit the American ear best. The word stuck and soon spread to the rest of the world.
Two main sessions every day at the BF… the first is of course the early morning Dawn Patrol and the concurrent Mass Ascension! (does that sound a bit religious or is it me).
The second is the evening Balloon Glow and Fireworks. Balloons are lined up and at the countdown word of a director on the public address system after the sun sets, balloon pilots light their gas burners at the same time illuminating the balloon envelopes and making some of the best photo opportunities every year in the southwest! It’s magic to see! Of course, once again, tens of thousands of observers and attendees are wandering around the field in the dark!

This image was captured at a combination Balloon/Fireworks event held just outside of Cincinnati. (or, as a lot of us locales say, Cincinnat-uh).
The event was pretty crowded, so I had to keep circling and maneuvering around this copse of balloons to get the view and the angle I wanted.
I was at this event with my sister who, as I recall, didn't get any really worthwhile images of balloons because she became overly distracted by the masses of people wandering around wearing sparkly lit/glowing head gear sold by an event concession. (Her urge for street photography kicked in, and she was gone).
Sometimes personal focus is everything where balloons are concerned.

Hot air balloons are inflated at dusk each evening for “Balloon Glow” at the annual Balloons Over Bavaria event in Frankenmuth, Michigan. As darkness falls, visitors are treated to the sight of a field filled with tethered balloons that glow as the crews fire them up, and have the opportunity to interact with the pilots and crews.

How many balloons does it take to have a balloon glow? It doesn't matter as a single one is beautiful. These are some balloons at Horseshoe Bay near Marble Falls TX.
It was a windy night for the balloons but these teams braved the wind so we could see them.
Colorado Springs, CO - I think everyone was disappointed about the truncation of Balloon Glow #2 due to gusty winds, but most everyone hung around and enjoyed the four ballons that did inflate and the many flaming baskets illuminating the fans and the field ...

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2010
The events now known as balloon glows were invented in Albuquerque in 1979, when local pilots inflated balloons on Christmas Eve night as a thank you to local residents. The sight of balloons lit from within at night like giant holiday ornaments is breathtaking, and glow events are now held all over the world. Balloon Fiesta launched its Balloon Glow the world's biggest in 1987. Fiesta Glow all burns when all the balloons fire their burners and light up at the same time are perhaps the most spectacular single moment in all of Balloon Fiesta.
