The heroic swim between Vlissingen and Breskens was last held in 2014. And that was the first time in fifty years.
Between 1930 and 1964, the swimming race for the Scheldt Cup was held regularly, but that stopped because shipping traffic on the Western Scheldt became too busy.
It is quite a logistical operation to allow all those water rats to swim safely to the other side. Shipping (including to and from Antwerp) is not allowed to pass for two hours.
The distance over the Western Scheldt is about six kilometers.

Tussen 1930 en 1964 werd de zwemrace om de Scheldebeker regelmatig gehouden, maar dat stopte omdat het scheepvaartverkeer op de Westerschelde te druk werd.
Het is een hele logistieke operatie om al die waterratten veilig naar de overkant te laten zwemmen. De scheepvaart (o.a. van en naar Antwerpen) mag namelijk twee uur lang niet passeren.
De tocht over de Westerschelde is ongeveer zes kilometer.

Varberg Kallbadhus stands on stilts in the sea (Kattegat) at the Promenade in Varberg. Here you can swim naked in separate men's and damavdelningar, both equipped with a sauna.
Since the breakwater has been built from the tick's northwest corner and the hoof, Getterön, is cold baths located in the port area.

In connection with air swimming baths and the promenade is the small sandy beach known as the "Children's beach".
Here also begins Varberg boardwalk, which rounds off the fort and passing Fortress terrace, and then continue along the beaches to Apelviken. Sightseeing Train Kustpilen run summer this stretch back and forth.
Varbergs kallbadhus står på pålar i havet (Kattegatt) vid Strandpromenaden i Varberg. Här kan man nakenbada i skilda herr- och damavdelningar, båda utrustade med bastu.
Sedan vågbrytare byggts från fästningens nordvästra hörn och Klöven, Getterön, är kallbadhuset beläget inom hamnområdet.
Det nuvarande kallbadhuset är det tredje som uppförts, sedan två tidigare – det äldsta av dem från 1866 – spolierats av de svåra västkuststormarna. Efter att exteriören renoverats till sitt ursprungliga skick under 1990-talet, återinvigdes kallbadhuset 1996.
I anslutning till Kallbadhuset och Strandpromenaden finns den lilla sandstrand som går under namnet "Barnens badstrand".
Här börjar också Varbergs strandpromenad, som rundar fästningen och därvid passerar Fästningsterrassen, för att sedan fortsätta längs badstränderna till Apelviken. Sightseeingtåget Kustpilen kör sommartid denna sträcka fram och åter.

Gelet op 2de aanbouw aan de oostzijde van het strandhotel moet een opname uit 1959 of later zijn.
Onder een beeld uit eenzelfde hoek gemaakt van het duinhuisjesterrein in 2013.
In 1959 waren er nog veel zandpaden tussen de huisjes en zijn er in het gebied nog veel open plekken met zand, vijftig jaar later is dat helemaal verdwenen.

Onder een opname uit vrijwel dezelfde hoek, gemaakt op 2 augustus 1959, precies 52 jaar eerder.
Op de foto uit 1959 is goed te zien dat men destijds veel meer grote kuilen groef om daarin op het strand te gaan liggen.
