In My Own Backyard

 

IRIS was the goddess of the rainbow, the messenger of the Olympian gods. She was often represented as the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera. Iris was a goddess of sea and sky--her father Thaumas "the wondrous" was a marine-god, and her mother Elektra "the amber" a cloud-nymph.

A very recently formed chrysalis -- note the outer skin from the larval stage hanging form the top. I wish I understood more about these...

We had a supermoon on January 1, 2018. We also had a cloud layer on Jan 1 and 2. When I got enough clear sky to shoot this, the moon was a little past "full". Maybe that helped show the craters. Glad to see the performance of the 300mm PF lens with a 1.4tc...
