Pink Lady apples are starting to come off the tree. This little tree just braved through our intense summer for the second year. I think it is a winner. Now I just have to figure out how to get that signature pink color! :-)
Harvested some of our Pink Lady / Crisp Pink apples today. This is only its second summer in our garden, so hopefully the fruit improves as the tree matures.
I had pruned some branches off to expose the apples so they can start taking on the pink coloration, but I am also afraid that they will get sun burnt. You can see slight blush on a couple of them. They may turn more pink if I left them on the tree longer, but a few came right off when I was inspecting the fruit today. I read that if the apple come off easily without you pulling, they are ready. So these are what I got today.
There are a few more still tightly hanging on, so we will see if they turn color as our night temps drop. (The difference of cold night temperature and warm day temperature in autumn is what causes the pink coloration on the Pink Lady)

First bucket of apples picked from one of our older trees this season. There's at least another six buckets and plenty of windfalls for the possums and birds. We netted this old beauty and it was worth it - otherwise the wattlebirds make it their own.
Our high density planting mixed with volunteer edible plants produce amazing results. This tiny 3x3 space has the following plants: red stem malabar spinach, Egyptian spinach, Sundowner apple tree, stevia, strawberry plants, cherry tomato, fig grown from sticking a branch in the ground, ginger and now joined by a volunteer watermelon climbed here from the other side of the pond.

My 2016 seeds from Bradford Watermelon had 50% germination rate (planted 4 seeds, 2 sprouted).
This amazing heirloom watermelon has only been grown in Sumter, SC, so the germination rate and production might be low the first couple of tries.
I am going to put in the work to hand pollinate, bag the female flower, then wait to save the seeds from my selected seed melons.
After a few seasons of growing and saving seeds, I should have my own version of Bradford watermelon that is acclimated to our garden and location.
Be patient and keep experimenting, I definitely going to try and see if I can keep this watermelon from cross pollinating with my five other varieties of watermelon in the garden, a bit tough because the bees are always out there working hard each morning!

Picked straight from her "secret garden" in the backyard. The next day we went on a special picking mission to make apple crisp for Thanksgiving dessert.
Our Double Delight Nectarine tree fruit is ripe! This is my favorite tree in the orchard. None of this fruit goes to waste, and thankfully there is a lot of it this year. The fruit is also a good size compared to the past couple years. I think the trees are benefitting from having the honeybees in the yard for pollination but also are maturing as they get slightly older.
Also pictured are cucumbers and some sweet peppers underneath there somewhere.

This tree set a ton of fruit on a couple of the grafts this year. They were incredible last year - my second favorite tree in the orchard behind the Double Delight nectarine.
The last of the peaches from the multi-graft peach tree and the first of the Double Delight nectarines!
This came off of the Cara cara orange tree, which is very small (knee height!). These thorns are no joke.
