We spent a little more on backpacks this year ($30 each - but they were on sale at least, as the normal price is $35/each), in the hopes that the $30 Jansport backpacks will hold up much better than the $22 Embarq backpacks. Because what's the point of saving $10 or so if you have to spend $20ish all over again in the middle of the school year (times two, since you have two children)?

A plain black backpack is a great way for kids to carry books to and from school. It also presents a great opportunity to increase your child's visibility for very little money.

Thanks Manfrotto Group / Kata for the new Bumblebee 222 replacement..
A few years back I found out about the Kata Bumblebee 222, and was floored it was on paper an amazing backpack and easily surpassed anything on the market and bought one as soon as they were available in North America.
Anyways, while I loved the backpack and gave it a pretty glowing review, I did have a few issues with it. Including the fact that the lower portion didn't fully protect everything from falling out if someone was standing up, etc.
Well turns out it bugged them as well, so they made a change to the bag... So when I was out at WPPI I ended up talking to some Manfrotto Group folks who when they realized I had one of the few first batch bags offered to replace my 2.5 year old bag for free..
... quite thankful, and yet another reason folks should think about going to the big conventions and getting to know some of their vendors and suppliers. I also had Canon do some amazing stuff for me out at WPPI as well.

This is the ridiculously awesome backpack I got from work. It has 743 zipped pockets. It means I never have to be more than a wifi connection away from work! Yay! ;)
