Ink with Digital Color | 6" x 6" | This is a sketch of the now-closed Global Village Backpackers hostel at King Street and Spadina Ave in Toronto. The historic building was constructed in 1873 and operated as a hotel, bar and music venue for over a century before transitioning to a backpacker hostel in 1997.

The bikes we rented in Risani were pretty shoddy. The guy who got them for us was the caricature of a third-world entrepreneur. "Half an hour" meant "an hour and a half," and "nice bikes" meant "any two bikes I can round up, including but not limited to my great aunt's 3-speed whose chain pops off the gears every 15 feet." Seriously, we walked to his relatives' house and asked if we could borrow the bike for a couple of hours.
That's June, fellow teacher in Korea, enjoying the surreal life on Khao San Road in Bangkok, which is arguably the world capital of backpacker culture.
City Backpackers is inexpensive, clean, friendly, and offers free wireless internet and wired computers. Just make sure to take your shoes off at the door.
