This weekend I attended a wedding reception that had a Great Gatsby theme and everyone that attended went the full 9 yards and everyone looked amazing…

I took my little 50mm and this lens surprises me every time and this time it was the focusing that surprised me, it was so quick and combine that with the tracking in the camera it was all over the place...even with single point focus it was still going nuts…but had lots of fun with it…

My friend had some really cool and classic shoes on and I wanted to capture them and made sure that they just stood out…I had to get all the way down to the floor to get this and had to lie there for people to walk past, the bride and groom made the comment that not even there photographer is doing what I am doing…lol thought it was funny.

As I was walking back to my car I looked over at the Aquatic Centre and saw that the sun was coming down and the remaining light had lit up the underneath of the centre's roof and the clouds.

Was not sure how to edit this but I just stuck with the basics…increase the clarity and shadows, reduced the blacks a little and increased the blue, orange and yellow saturation a little and then finally added a little bit of vignetting in Lightrooms.

I am not sure if I have mentioned this before but I really like my LED light tube…lol

What I love about light is that it can make a small or big difference in the picture and in this picture the light actually makes it look like the boxes have distorted.

As much as I love the middle image as a stand alone image and I might post it at a later date, I just could not help but put it together with another image.

With regards to post, I took the left image and flipped it horizontally and put it on the right so it looked like a book case holder effect and added a navy blue background in photoshop. I took in back in lightrooms and increased the sharpness, clarity and reduced the highlights and blacks a little bit.

As Halloween is coming up I wanted to create something different and something that was not too cliché. However everything that I could think of involved me going to a graveyard, which I did not mind, but the cemeteries round where I live close their gates at night and it did not sit right with me jumping over the gates, not by myself anyway…lol

Few months ago there was a forest fire near by, so decided to go back as I thought texture of the burnt wood, would show up well and give it a bit more of an eerie feel. Once I found my spot I looked around and chucked some twigs around and noticed that there was a log there that looked just like a snake (to the left of the pumpkin in the picture), so I had to use it.

I bought the pumpkin from a party store and cut a hole out in the bottom so I could put some Red LED keyring lights in and placed the pumpkin as close to the camera as possible. I had to dig a stick into the floor so that my mask could stay up right. My friend is a plumber and he uses these smoke sticks to detect leaks and he had some left, so I taped them to the pumpkin, log and stick.

I used a flash gun with a blue gel to light the back tree up and used another coloured gel with my torch to light the floor up, although for some reason I did not think to light the floor up by the camera, but I think it worked out. I used tungsten torch to light up the back of the pumpkin and the mask.

In lightrooms I used the adjustment brush to turn the sky to blue, increased the clarity and added a little lens vignetting. I had to take into PS to tidy it up a little more…you could see the light from the flash gun and I wanted to remove it. I felt something was missing and it needed a little bit more so I made my first set of brushes with a little bit of help and I added a witch and some bats into the image.

Happy Halloween…

I know it’s a bit late but here is my Christmas picture…lol

I had a shoot the other day and I had to planned to do some Christmas related shots but time just ran away from me, I grabbed the hat threw it at Angel and told her to give me a wink, I took two shots and this was the best one.

I have recently learnt how to add snow in PS so I thought I would give it a try on this image. Once I added that I took it back into LR and increased the sharpness and decreased the clarity and the vibrance a bit. I used the split tone to change the colour a bit and increased the blacks a bit too.

The Olympic park is now open so I thought I would go check it out as it is open 24 hours as when it first opened I was not able to go so really was excited to get there…and just arrived as the blue hour had kicked in, sadly the time I got to this point the blue hour was nearly finished but that kind of worked out in my favour.

This is another time I wished I had a wide angle on me (if I get to 10 I am going to by one…lol) I had to get right down to the floor so I could avoid the street lamps and avoid getting in lens flare.

In LR, I had to bring the red down a little because it was a bit to much, I bought the highlight down all the way and the whites too. The orbit went totally dark so I increased the exposure a little and when I did I noticed a few more stars appear. I increased the clarity and then finally I increased the vignetting and it just lightened the edges a bit.

For some time now I have wanted to do a shot with my hand on fire, I have tried many times in photoshop to recreate this but never been satisfied with the results. So I thought I would set my hand on actual fire.

For the last few weeks have watched a few youtube videos and read some articles on what I can use without burning my hand and eventually I found a way that I can use without causing to much damage. I took some cotton material and wrapped it up and then used an elastic band to keep the material in place. I got some lighter fluid and poured a little on the material, first few attempts I did put a little bit more than I should have and the flame did get carried away...lol

In lightrooms I increased the clarity all the way up, along with a little bit of contrast and vibrance. I then took it into PS where I used the cloning stamp to remove the elastic band from my hand and then added some small flares around my hands. I took it back to LR and used the radial filter and just focused it round my hand so I still would get the glow on my face, I did not want to darken it to much as I wanted to show the tunnel, but at the same time there was still to much light, so I used a little bit of lens vignetting. Finally I used the iris tool to bring out my eyes a little.

This is still not what I was really going for but it is a starting point on which I can now build on, I want more fire...lol and I can not wait to go back out and try and build on this. Massive thanks to Andy and Daniel for helping me take the shot.

I have recently seen a few pictures in explore of people placing rocks on top of each other and in various locations, I really liked this idea and wanted to try my own version and plus it gave me a really good excuse to play with my rocks…lol

The setup…Like my previous picture I used foil in the background to create my Bokeh. This time I scrunched up the foil and had lots of small little creases, which gave me a smaller Bokeh. I used a torch again to light the background with a blue gel.

I placed the rocks on my table (I forgot to wipe the table down and you can see my finger prints on in…lol). The rocks are actually white but because I used a incandescent torch this does not show…but I do like how the incandescent torch changed the colour of the stones gave it a warmer feel.

I was really happy how the picture turned out but felt like something was missing, so I decide to add some text, originally I was going to add 'Insert zen quote' but as much as I found that funny, it did not sit right with the picture, so I went for balance is beautiful instead for a personal reason.

Just decreased the blacks, shadows and highlights in LR. I used PS to create the text, again I used the overlay blend mode and added a outer glow to the text.

For those who asked about the Foil, this is where I got it from www.diyphotography.net/el-bokeh-wall

There is a little hill in the Olympic park and it has all these bright orange tulips (I think they are tulips) along side it. I wanted to get a row of them and use them like a leading line to the orbit but it meant I had to stand in a funny position and as I just got my lens back I did not want to do anything stupid that would jeopardise me or the camera…lol…so I played it safe…

I bought the saturation down a little bit as the was a lot of blue in the sky and I wanted the main focus to be the orange. I increased the orange luminance and the clarity and the finally added some colour priority.

Those of you using taking my picture and using it on SKYSCRAPERCITY without my permission please stop!!!...its getting a bit boring having to email them constantly.

I have started to notice that, with me, trying to get the shot that I want is never straight forward…lol

I went to this spot a few days ago and on my first visit, I left with a picture that I was happy with, its not till I got home and viewed my images on a bigger screen that I noticed that I did not get a light trail of the cable cars from the Emirates Air Line.

So I decided to go back and try again, however on my second attempt, it was windy as hell. Every picture that I took just hand camera shake, even though I increased the shutter speed and ISO, I just could not get it to work.

Now on my third try I had left work early and thought I would get there just after sunset and go for that blue hour. However I got stuck in the Blackwell tunnel and totally missed it...lol, but to make this worse, when I got to the spot and looked at Canary Wharf and saw that the pyramid light was off!!!...I got my shot and came home.

I adjusted the white balance temperature to give it that bluish/cold effect, I think I over it did it with the clarity but when I did I notice the steam from the CitiGroup building pop up. Decreased the highlights a bit and added a little vignetting in lightrooms. I then took it in to Photoshop and took the pyramid from my first picture and place it on to this one.

I am hoping that HSBC will put their light on…

I love a good explore regardless of where I am and I loved exploring this hotel I found that each hall way had a different look, when I saw this I knew right away how I was going to edit this, the first shot was with out no body in but I felt like there was something missing…So I asked my brother in law if he would walk down, when he got under the light I screamed at him to look left but he did not and stop instead. I took my shot and was happy with it and moved on…

I increased the clarity and decreased the saturation a bit and then played with the split toning and added a little bit of colour priority and lens vignetting in lightrooms.

This image was used in time out london, but they changed the title...lol number 27

Just before I took this shot I was across the road at the front of the fence and was trying to shoot through it…I had it on manual focus and forgot to put it back on auto focus once I was done…hence why the bottom half of the picture is a bit blurry.

At this point the sun has just started to go down and was behind me and gave the approach lights an extra orange glow and the runway lights had just come on.

I decreased the exposure, shadows and blacks a little bit and cropped a little. Then Brought the saturation down and increased the vibrance and final just added a little colour priority in LR. I also went over the lights on the plane and the yellow approach lights just to make them stand out a little bit more.

This image was taken at the Olympic park and for those of you that have not been I think this place is amazing and a great place to visit and take pictures, especially at night.

Those of you who live in London, a group of us will be going down there and will be meeting outside the aquatic centre around 7pm (14/5/2014), please come down and join us.

I absolutely love this path and every time I see it, I feel like there is a picture there but never no how to take it, I have had a few attempts and for me this is the best one so far, but will be try again as I still think there is a better shot there. I feel I need to get higher…lol

I did use a long exposure and hence why you can see some of the tree leaves out of focus but I like that. I was not sure how or whether I should edit this as it looked fine as is. But I decided to use the spilt toning tool in lightrooms and changed the shadows to blue and the highlights to green and played with the saturation accordingly. Increased the clarity and decreased the green saturation a bit as it was a bit to bright.

What I liked about this area, it kind of adds its own vignetting to it so did not have to add much to it. This image was also used by Time Out London www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152091435287405&set...

I bought the sleeve a few years back to put over my camera and lens so I could take pictures in the rain but have never used it and when it rained this weekend I thought I would take it out, only problem was that it took me a little while to figure out which way the body was suppose to be and the time I figured the torrential part had stop.

But still went out and had a lot of fun playing in the rain and taking a few pictures. Whenever it rains I get a nice little puddle on top of my BBQ cover, so I picked up a leaf and place it in it. I then just went round taking pictures from different angles and this was the one I preferred.

I used the split tone to adjust the colours to give it the green feel, increased the clarity and finally used the paint overlay for the vignetting in lightrooms.

Recently I have been practising on dropping my shutter speed as low as possible with out the use of the tripod. Not as straightforward as I thought but it is a work in progress...

This was taken at the London Wonderground, which is an awesome place to visit and a great place to hang out.

Not the greatest shot of the star flyer really need to go back in the blue hour but I was really impressed on how sharp it came out. Exif data 1/6 seconds (hand held), F3.5 and ISO 160.

Not much on the editing side, however they sky was pitch black and I found messing around with the split toning I was able to add a little blue back in.

For a long time I have wanted to carry out a wire wool spin in front of the o2 and I thought it would be a perfect time to carry it out in the blue hour.

As the blue hour goes quite quickly I wanted to get the spin going as soon as I could, because I was so excited about doing this, I did not think about my composition much which is a shame as this spot has a lot to offer. I did not get a perfect circle and that was because as I started to spin a bit of wool came off and hit the side of my neck, even with my hood up it still got through…lol

Did not do much on the editing side, just increased the shadows and clarity a bit, also took the purple down a bit, which made the blue stand out a bit more.

if you are ever in this spot, try not to stay to late as they lock the gates as me and babs found out, we eventually had to climb over a gate, which nearly resulted it what could have been a nasty accident.

For a long time I have wanted to take a photo with a wire wool spin somewhere in London and when I came here with my fellow chimp a few weeks ago I thought this place would be a perfect location.

Unfortunately on the day my fellow chimp had to leave early, however he did leave me with a very helpful nuttah and this nuttah was instrumental to taking this picture as if it was not for her I would not have been able to carry this shot out…so thank you.

Did start by trying to take the picture from the main road however I was too far away to actually see any spinning, so we moved closer. This was my first shot from this spot and I was happy with it as soon as I saw it on my PC.

Not much on the editing just increased the exposure slightly and the clarity in LR. I did add something in the picture, just to round it off for myself but I will leave it to you guys to figure it out.

Went to visit the sky gardens at the new walkie talkie building and I was in totally blown away with the view, never in my life have I have seen a view like this of London. I highly recommend taking a trip up there.

I was very excited and when I got there I thought I am going to get some great shots especially as the sun was coming down too, however, the windows on the outside are just plain old dirty and full of water marks, you do not notice them much until you look at the back of your camera and zoom in and when the sun goes down, the lights come on you start to get some reflections from the lights too….but still had some fun getting underneath the rail and getting right close to the window, I even forgot for a second that I did not even like heights, well just for a second…lol

In post the main problem I had was getting rid of the water marks from the window and few of the reflections at the top of the sky, you can see a few left just underneath the sun. But once I did I bought it back in lightrooms from photoshop and brought down the exposure, blacks and highlights. I increased the shadows, clarity and went over the top with the sharpness and you can now see a bit of grain in the top but I thought I would leave it.

Just to add I did take my camera and my gorilla pod with me and had no one tell me off.

So I thought I would take a break from the airport and come back to the docks for a bit…

I took this picture last week…I was at this spot to take another shot but for once I was early…lol…so while I was waiting for the blue hour to kick in I thought I would just mess about and take a picture from this iconic spot.

As the sun was setting I decided to use my 10 stop ND filter, being novice I thought 30 seconds would be ok but it wasn’t…lol This shot was take over 87 seconds which still was not long enough, however I was still happy with how it came out.

My first thought was to go black and white but I just thought that would be boring and a bit obvious, for me. So I decided to continue to play with spilt toning. I increased the exposure slightly, then increased the shadows all the way up which bought out the buildings details a bit more. Increased the tint to add a bit more blue and then decided to use a warm colour on the shadows and a bit of a cold colour in the highlights. decreased the blacks and increased the clarity. I used the adjustment bush and increased the sharpness and contrast and went over the buildings and water a bit. Then finally added a little bit of vignetting. There was a crane on top of the Barclays building and at the bottom which I removed with the healing brush.

I decided to put a casting call out last week with some ideas, unfortunately I did not get the type of response I thought I was going to get, but I guess when you tell people that you want to just use coloured lights, sparklers and other props I guess it may seem a little out there…lol

I have this awesome LED tube that illuminates various colours. At the moment you still have to plug it into a mains but I have been shown how to make it portable and I can not wait till I put it together. I also have these two small LED lights as well, that are very bright and very portable and I have used them in previous images.

With this shot I set the tube to an orange colour and the small lights to a red, I asked the model to place the tube between her legs and to give me a stern look and to have one hand out. I had the light technician stand on a stool and place one light just above and behind her head and one on the side of her head. The lights in the studio was turned off and I had to use my 50mm (1/80, F1.4, ISO1250).

In post I cropped the image as you could see two hands holding the lights and I had to take one hand out, I also had to clone out the wire from the tube. Back in lightrooms I desaturated the colour a little bit as the orange was really strong and reduced the reds too. I increased the clarity and blacks. I had to go over the eyes and sharpen them a bit more as the focusing point ended being on her head as I was moving around a lot.

This is my second attempt at taking this picture…I wont lie I did love the first one, only because flew right round the tower. This time I went back not a single plane flew round the tower.

I wished I had angled the image a bit more just so I could have got a bit more sky in over the tower but I shall same that for next time.

The tower was a little bit bright and I did not want it totally to be the main focus of the image…so I bought the saturation, highlights and shadows to and increased the clarity and contrast to even out the picture so it had a more balance feel to it. Just added a little bit of vignetting to the image to dark the sky a little and then feathered it out all in lightrooms.

A few weeks ago I set this shot up and once I was ready to take the shot and as I went to take the picture I went and dropped my lens. So now that my lens is fixed I had to go back and complete what I started.

The thing I like about the Olympic Park at night is that there is no one there and on this occasion I had the whole wall to myself. It took me a good 25 minutes plus to change all the blocks around to black and then the letters that I needed to white. I could not reach top three rows, so I used my tripod legs to turn around the two rows above the letters and I used Photoshop to do the very top row and the first row on the left.

In lightrooms I tried to play around to see whether it was better to add more colour or take it away, in the end I decided to desaturate the image instead a little and increased the blacks and yellows, I took away a little bit of the contrast to give it the aged look too.

As I was holding two lights in my hand I thought I would try and expand on that a bit more and took the image into PS and used some brushes and flares around my hands. To keep it identical, once happy with what I had done I merged the layers together and then duplicated it and used flip horizontal to mirror the other hand. Once I was happy with that I added a little bit of lens vignetting back in lightrooms.

Well the easter bunny has decided to make its way out the forest and make its way into town, on its way in, it has left a trail of easter eggs…well that was the shot I was going for, ideally I would have wanted the bunny on top of a hill going up but there are not many hills round where I live…lol

I have three colour changing eggs and unfortunately only one of them you can stop it at a desired colour where as the other two just keep changing. To get round this, I took my LED colour key ring and taped it to the back of each of the two eggs. This shot was two shots taken and later combined in PS.

As I used the same settings on both shots, I just used the lighten blend mode in PS, while there I resized the eggs a little and added a few stripes round the eggs, along with a little star trail. I bought it back into LR and just increased the clarity and brought the saturation down and just added a bit of vignetting.

I recently got the opportunity to finally step into a studio and dip into my idea book (yes I have an idea book now…lol) and see what I could come up with. I won't lie I was really nervous as I have not taken pictures of a model before nor have I been in a studio, it was so bad that when we started I actually stood there waiting for the model to do something and after she gave me this look I realised she was actually waiting for me to tell her what I wanted her to do…lol But once I showed her my ideas and we were both were on the same page, things became a lot more easier.

The image above was not as simple as I thought it would be purely because you had to get the right size and shape bubble and as I knew that I was going to flip it I had to make sure that the head was tilt back slight so it gave the straight look. This was the 15th shoot out of 24. I had one main light on her face and another at the back of behind her lighting the wall.

For editing I used the color tool to go over the bubble gum and bring the colour out a bit more, I then used the soften skin tool and went over her face. Made a few increases to the contrast and sharpness. I increased the blue luminance and saturation and them flipped the image and cropped. I finally used the gradient tool to darken the top a little.

I highly recommend using this model if you looking to work with one, she made it so much easier being in the studio for the first time and took to my ideas without hesitation and made them come alive and is a very nice person too.

I was on my way back from a meeting and had the camera in the boot and was passing T5 and I thought why not pop down to my favourite little view spot and see what I can get.

I was not ready to take this shot as I was in awe of the awesomeness of this plane…it was massive…lol This image does not even come close to show the magnitude of this aircraft.

I increased the exposure, clarity and brought the temperature down a bit. I then increased the shadows and a little bit of saturation and the blue saturation too, increased the blue luminance just to blow out the sky out a bit. I used the healing tool to take out a whole tree on the bottom right (amazing) and two lamp post that were in the middle and then finally added some colour priority and lens vignetting in LR.

I feel like there is something messing, I wanted to add some vapor trails but not sure whether that would be better or heat trails or maybe some text at the bottom…what you think???

Model: Ashleigh K

I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the awesome and super talented Ashleigh K (worth a Google).

I was really excited about this as I got to go back into the studio and shot a pregnant women as I have wanted to do this for a long time and I have had so many ideas.

One of my ideas was to get two balloons one pink and one blue to represent a boy and a girl…obviously there are so many variations of this but I decided to go with and only because we was in the studio to use lots of balloons. Now a few days before I had a small little operation in my mouth and I thought I was fine but after blowing up 26 balloons I was in pain and I was in even more pain when I realised, 'shit how am I going to get these balloons to the studio'…lol I took lots of big black bags but I got them there.

The shot was very straight forward and Ashleigh I was great and was happy with what I got after about 6 shot for this idea. my communications skills are improving…woohooo…lol

Not much in post, a little crop, increased the exposure, contrast, vibrance, sharpness and decreased the blacks and just increased the purple luminance. I used the soft skin tool and lip enhancer brush in lightrooms.

When I first got home and saw this image on the PC,I just thought it was a static image and was ready to discard it, but for some reason I left it, the more I looked at it the more I thought that there was something missing. The only solution I could think of was would it not look great if it look like the dress was moving and so was she…A friend suggested that I should add some motion blur.

So I took into photoshop and added some motion blur. I added a mask on that layer and removed the main part of the image and just left the outside of the skirt.

Once I have saved it I noticed that you could see a bit of her head on the left and side and I was a bit gutted because I thought I missed a bit and would have to go back and do it again. But I kind of like that effect it has, like she is spinning really fast.

Back to the box…

I have always believed that we all have two sides to us, whether it be good or bad one side always fights to be the dominant side and that is what I have tried to do in this picture…albeit since I have taken this picture I have had a few other ideas and I will be expanding on this…

In the box, after placing the model I stuck my small LED light inside the box above her hand and set the colour to orange for the first shot and blue for the second. I also asked the model to wear something that would fit each shot too, as I thought that was important to try and sell the shot. Also to light up her face I used a small torch.

In post, I took in photoshop and cloned out the lights inside the box, I added the flames. For the blue one I had to invert the flames and change the hue slightly. I then had to add a further glow around the flame and around the model to and finally added a few little particles around the flames to make it look like bits of wood where flying out. In lightrooms I reduced the blacks and increased the sharpness and exposure a little bit, and the bought both images back into photoshop.

Originally on my first draft of this picture I had a lot of negative space and I was not sure what to do with it, I tried to add a 'Vs' in the middle but it did not work, eventually I bought the image in and cropped it as tight as I can but still feel like it is not right….

Any ideas?

Thought I would take a break from Jessica and go back to Laura for a bit. I have said this before but I love my hoodies and love women and I love combining them both to produce images like this.

Cropped a little, desaturated the image a bit and used the spilt toning to change the colour a bit. Increase the sharpness and used the softness tool and went over the skin, used the remove tool to take out some spots and enhanced the lips a bit in lightrooms.

I think every photographer at some point will have a list of photos they would like to take, on my list one of the things I would like to do involves taxis and every time I see some taxis I try to see if that shot I want is possible. So far I think my fear of going for that shot and maybe lack of knowledge on how to take my shot has prevented me for getting what I am looking for…But this photo will have to do for now.

I cropped the image, increased the clarity and brought the blacks down. I then used spilt toning and just increased the highlights to a yellow and then increased the whites to blow out the background a bit. At then used the dodge tool in lightrooms to bring out the taxi sign abit.

I was on my way back to the station and my shoes laces had come undone…after I had tied them and as I was getting up I saw this shot and thought this would make a great shot.

At first I was to the left at bit but I really wanted to get the Red capsule on the London Eye so I moved to the right a little and recomposed my shot.

Brought the exposure down a little to bring the detail back in the eye and background, increased the shadows, highlights and whites a little, I changed the hue a bit from blue to aqua just so the sky would be the focus of the image and the plant would be. Finally just added a bit of lens vignetting in lightrooms. This image was also used in Time out London now-here-this.timeout.com/2014/05/16/52-ways-to-enjoy-the...

Wanted to try something different so I took the image into PS and just inverted it…as much as I liked, I also liked the detail of the original shot and wanted to combine them…I tried to use a mask and just delete the inverted part but it was just not working.

After playing around with the blend modes I notices that the invert flamed remained blue and the rest of the original image stayed the same too.

I then took back into LR and bought the saturation down a bit and increased the clarity and blacks.

I know I have said this before but I absolutely love my LED Tube and I am having so much fun with, so much so that I am going to start a new album…lol

I knew that the LED Tube would illuminate the box perfectly but I had to take a few test shots to make sure I got it right. I had to use a reflector at the bottom just so I could get a little bit of light at the bottom of the box.

I had three poses in mind with this concept and I those shall follow shortly but I took the first one and straight after quickly changed the colour in the tube just to see what it would look like.

I had three different colours which I liked very much but did not want to post three separate pictures of the same, so I decided let me put them together, so I did.

I took it in photoshop and stacked each image, used the screen blend mode and used a small layer mask to blend each layer together so they would look as one as I could see the different images as individual images and not as one. I then took it back into lightrooms and increased the sharpness and clarity a bit. Reduced the highlights and vibrance a bit too.

I have had this shot in my head for some time and always knew it was going to be more about the edit rather than just taking a picture…I also knew that I would have to take two shots to achieve this picture and I really did not want to take two shots, I wanted to take one shot and have a quick edit.

I spent a few days trying to figure how I would get the camera to look like it was floating mid air…eventually I used the camera strap and wore it round my neck, as you do…this did work and I manage to put my neck down a little and it bought the camera down…however I needed the camera to stick out a bit so it was away from my body…my genius friend gave my two magnetic strips…I opened the screen out and rotated it so it was pointing towards me….attached the strips and used a magnet from a fridge magnet and stuck it on the strips which then stuck to my belt buckle…Like I said genius friend!!!

I then used to rubber bands to tie the lights to my hands so I could have them open…I did not want to have to long of an exposure as I knew my hands would move, so I turned the ISO up to 500, F13 and had it for 1 second.

I cloned the straps and rubber bands off in PS and also added the small flares, I wanted an orb round the camera but it did not look right so I kept the flares to a minimum. I then took back into lightrooms and decreased the contrast and clarity, I used the spilt toning to adjust the colour and increased the yellow luminance a bit and finally added a bit of vignetting.

In my first studio session I had a conversation with the owner and told him about a video I saw about a fellow tog using a box to take some pictures. Well he finally put it together and invited me down to test it out.

I had loads of ideas for this box and I could not wait to shoot them and get them out my head, I hope you enjoy the following series.

This idea was all about individuality…there maybe thousands of photographs, models, MUA and stylist but each have something that distinguishes them from each other and I hope that images resembles that.

I have started to get a hang of this pre-conversation prior to the shoot as I got all the shots I wanted within 12 shots. I did use a tripod and kept it on manual mode to make sure everything was the same.

With regards to post this was something new to me, stacking multiple images together, only problem that I faces was that not all the boxes were straight and that was because every time the model moved the box would wobble a bit. I did use the warp tool but looking back now I should have used the skew option (but I doubt you would have noticed it until I mentioned it). I took it back into lightroom and increase the sharpness and contrast. I reduced the vibrance and clarity a bit. I then used split tone to change the colour to match her skin and hoody.

Back to the studio, as they say…I wanted to trying something with my red what ever you call it and what I really wanted was for the model just to cover part of her face at an angle and to show lips only but due to me being a bit nervous and not really understanding what I was doing it evolved to the above image. I had the light technician holding the red thing for me off to the side.

not much on post, just increased the highlights and whites and contrast, she did not have any lipstick on so I used the colour tool in lightrooms to add that in.

For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to explore Canary Wharf and its surrounding area. Looking up was the easiest thing to do, so I thought I would change my perspective and look down or at least try too.

While trying to get out the rain the day before I took the above photo, I came across theses frames and as I walked around these frames, so many ideas just popped in my head. What I loved about these frames was that they twist along a curve, they have this rotating geometry expressing movement and are highlighted by a small LED in each corner, you can see them if you look at the bottom left of each frame.

This is one of my first ideas when I saw these frames, to have each frame in a different colour. Ideally I would have gone back and changed my composition so that it was one frame you see first and not a bit of one sticking out but I really liked how it turned out so I have decided to leave it for now…

This was the biggest edit I have done in any of my pictures and it took forever…I bought the saturation down on all the colours. I then took into PS and used the quick selection tool and selected each frame individually. I then coloured in each frame, changed the blend more to soft light and brought the opacity down a little on each as I did not want the colours to be to bright, hence why I just used pastel colours. Once that was down I took it back to LR and increased the clarity and added a little bit of vignetting.

So finally got my LED tube portable and I can now take it where ever I want too and not worry about plugging it in somewhere.

I have been recently looking for really big trees for a shot I would like to take and after a few Google searches and a few emails to a few friends, I finally found black park.

Black park is amazing and has some really really really tall trees (would still prefer thicker trees as well but for now this will do). I was going to take this picture at another spot but thought the light would look good reflected on the bushes below.

If I was to be honest I do not really like the composition of this shot, I think I should either be to the left a bit more of closer to the camera, but at the same time I still want that effect to show how big the trees are compared to me, but I shall go back and try again…

In post I brought the exposure down a little, increased the clarity and sharpness and used the radial tool around me and brought the exposure down even more so you could see more of a glow and the effect of the LED tube.

As many of you know I have been trying to set my hand a light for some time now and after many attempts, guess what…still no luck. But I have not given up yet and I am nearly there, I think the key is having more than one person there.

Before getting to the studio I had already planned my shots out and how I was going to go about in setting them up. To light Jessica I turned off the flash of one the studio lights and just used the lamp to light her. I also used my two little LED lights, one I set to orange and lit the back side of her hand and the second I set to yellow and aimed it her face/chest area this was because I wanted to make the fire look really as possible.

For Halloween I took a mannequins hand and I set each finger a light and was going to use it for another picture but it did not work out the way I wanted. But I still kept the images of each finger to use at a later date.

I took this in photoshop and first off cleared the background of the two hands that were holding the LED lights. I then took my stock images of the flames and added them to the hand separately. I then used the curves to increased the red and add a glow around the hand and then I used a yellow curve just to go around the flames just to make them pop. I took it back into lightrooms where I changed the colour of the eyes, increased the clarity, blacks and contrast. I finally used the radial filter and placed that around the face and hand and desaturated the image a bit.

When I went to export the image for some reason the final image came out totally different to what was in lightroom, the image had a lot more grain and a little loss of colour. I have tried everything that I know of but still the same outcome, but it is only on this image. Anyone have any ideas why?

There is nothing more peaceful then just watching the sun come up or going down and watching planes take off is just adds to the bliss.

I came across this nice little view point at T5 where I had a perfect view of the sun going down and from the right the planes were taking off, however they were not flying straight across instead they were flying off to the right….There is another view point across the road but that has a massive fence in front of it, so I decided to stay where I was, so I could keep the sun in the middle.

So I placed the sun in the middle and just had to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait till a plane big enough flew across. I am not sure if this is a A380 but it was the biggest that came along, plus I had to go to the toilet so I did not want to wait around any longer…lol

There was a few buildings that were sticking out at the bottom, so I took them out as I wanted a clean shot as I wanted the plane to be the only thing sticking out. I brought the saturation and contrast down a little and individually increased the blue, orange and yellow luminance. I increased the whites too but that took out the orange so used the split toning to increase the orange highlights and finally added just a little bit of vignetting in lightrooms.

As the sun goes down the blue hour comes out to play and viewing the city in the blue hour from sky garden was just amazing. This shot is night version of the previous images only a few windows down…lol I took my gorilla pod with me and was able to you use without getting in trouble. Again the only problem I had was at night the lights come on inside and they reflect on the window.

I went for a 10 second exposure just so I could get a little bit of light trails in as well.

In post I reduced the highlights, I brought down the saturation a bit too. I then increased the clarity and sharpness and blacks a little so you could see more of the buildings. I increased the blue saturation and used a small ND filter but I think it might have gone a bit over the top with the blue, but I left it because I think it brings a nice balance to the image as the top half is a bit cold and the bottom half is a bit warm.

Model: Ashleigh K

A few weeks ago I learnt how to create a neon type text in photoshop and was waiting for an opportunity to use it. As soon as I found out that I was shooting Ashleigh I knew what I had in mind.

The Studio had these backgrounds that could be placed upright and it was just covered with old torn wallpaper which I saw from a previous shoot, so I used that. In my head I knew I needed the model to look between 10 and 11 and I knew how I wanted her to pose and that worked out great.

I was not sure what to write on the text and I had three choices, either 'expecting', 'coming soon' or just a '?'. After discussing with the Ashleigh I went with the above.

I took the image in photoshop and added a brick wall texture and used the soft light blending mode to blend the two backgrounds. I then added the text and made adjustments to the drop shadow, outer glow and colour overlay.

One thing that I thought of was that if your under a neon sign you will get some light on you, so I took a brush and used the same colour as the sign and I went around the sign, wall and the front part of Ashleigh. I took it back into lightroom and increased the clarity, contrast and reduced the highlights and blacks and just added a little bit of lens vignetting.

I have been wanting to try this for a long time, albeit I had someone else in mind, someone that did not look as scary as me, but hey ho I guess I will do for now…

I got these little LED Lights and used one to light the back wall and used one the other one to light up my face. The one that was on my face I decreased the brightness on the light so it only lit part of my face and was actually holding in my hand.

I increased the clarity all the why up and went over the eye with the iris tool in lightrooms and added a little bit of red and finally added some vignetting.

In hind sight I should have tried to do a world cup theme and used the brazil flag, green background, yellow face and blue eye…next time…

Before anyone ask, yes, all mince pies were harmed in the making of this picture!!!!!

My first few attempts on this picture…I felt there was a lot missing, to begin with, it was just the mince pie that I had in the shot with smoke coming out and slowly I started to fill the frame but it was not working out. I showed a few people and a few suggestion where given and taken on board. One of those suggestions was to added a glass of milk and carrot (at the time of taking this picture I did not have a carrot), so I added the glass of milk.

The setup was very simple…Just put everything on the table and spread it out a little…lol. I did have to use a stick so I could rise the red cloth across the frame. I then used my torch and slowly went over everything. I thought I went over the glass ok but when you look at the picture you can see a dark spot in front of the glass.

I decreased the blacks and increased the shadows. I had to reduced the highlights and the exposure on the mince pie and just increased the clarity a bit in LR. I took it in PS and added a few little start trails.

Am I happy with this…NOOOOO…I wanted to add a Christmas tree in this made from a sparkler but sadly the four goes that I had, I just could not get it right, so I had to leave it this time…maybe next year.

I think this is part of the Blackwall Basin and it is a great little spot with a great view of the city and behind you will see the O2 arena, worth a trip down.

I got here just as the blue hour kicked in and at the same time we had a few clouds join us, so got a little lucky.

Not much on the setup as it was straight forward shot, although I did nearly drop my camera in the water and I am not even going to lie I nearly shit myself…lol…tilted the camera a little just so that Canary Wharf would appear as if it was centred and so the street lamps would make it look like a leading line, kind of like runway lights..lol

When I got home and viewed it on the PC…the was to much orange, which was coming from the street lights. I bought that down a little as well as the yellows, as I wanted the buildings to be the main focus too. I increased the contrast, clarity and blacks and bought the highlights down and then finally added a bit of vignetting in LR.

Next time I might ask people to turn off their lights and open their curtains as I really like how the blue sky has reflected in some of the windows…lol…if you don’t ask you don’t get….lol

A few weeks ago I went to a few museums, one of the museums that I had visited was the science museum. This was my first time here and from the moment I walked in I could not believe the scale of everything, I felt like a little kid and I really wanted to run around and just touch everything but was to scared just in case I broke something, so I held my own hand just to make sure…lol

As previously stated I love a good explore and that is what I decided to do have a good explore and when I did I wont lie I did get a bit lost as I was not paying attention to where I was going. But I ended up here.

My first thought was that this would look great with someone standing in the middle or even multiple people but I guess that would be for another trip. I have no idea what this was being used for or whether it was being used but I just had to take a picture.

In lightrooms I increased the clarity and sharpness, I then I changed the shadows in the split toning to purple and increased the yellow saturation and finally added a little lens vignetting.

I planning to take another picture and part of that picture (spoiler alert) I am looking to use a sparkler to make a Christmas Tree. So I do not waste my sparklers I thought I would practice with some LED key ring lights

I took three LED key ring lights, Red, Green and Yellow. I put the green and red together and went from left to right and upwards and once I got to the top I stopped and used the Yellow LED to resemble a star.

It did take me a few attempts, but I think I got the hang of it now (famous last words…lol) and I was really happy with the way the picture came out.

I took it into LR and decreased the blacks and shadows…The yellow bit at the top was not so bright so I took it into PS and added a quick lens flare just to make it pop. While I was there, I thought out of curiosity what would it look like if I duplicated the layer and mirrored the image. I did that and the above image is the final result.

Only bit I did not like was the fact that I did it on the floor...as you can see the grain of the wood in the reflections.

This year for my secret Santa, I was given a Christmassy thong…why, well I will save that for another picture (however if you Google the right thing you might find it).

I showed this to my friends and as all friends do, they insisted that I put it on…I refused and said there was a time and place…lol. At this point one brave member of the group decided to throw down the gauntlet and challenge me to a little game. Should either of us loose that person would have to put the thong on and go fill up the other person car with petrol, just wearing the thong.

Much to my delight I won…Now like most people that act brave they like to talk the talk but not walk the walk. So eventually a comprise was met and that was the above shot.

There light in the room was directly above the bed and the time you got near the door there was not much of it. The hall way bulb was out so I used my torch and aimed it at the thong. I did not have much battery left and wasn’t really bothered about changing it, but I wish I did because I would have like the thong to have been a little more to the left.

When it came to processing my first edit was very simple and the picture looked like something out of an advert, but did not give me a naught or nice feel to it. I used a preset in LR called cross process 3 and it was spot on and gave it that naughty look. However I was looking for that balance of naughty or nice so I increased the highlights and used the vignetting to lighten up the edges and it gave it a softer look. I then took it into PS and added the text.

I hope for the next few weeks so all remain naughty and indulge in food, drink and the festive fun!!! Come 2014 you can go back to being nice.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all that are viewing this.

Just to the left of this, there is a bridge and you can actually see it in the picture…where I wanted to stand and carry out the spin but unfortunately the bridge was closed. So I went under another bridge and took it from there.

Once the bulk of the wool had burnt out I used a remote to turn on my lights from on the floor, however only one came on but it still managed to light up my trousers.

I increased the clarity and bought down the saturation and highlights a bit and just added a little bit of vignetting in lightrooms.
