We are stardust.

We are golden.

And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

I loved her as one loves a statue

Perfectly poised and gazing

I loved her solidity

Though I longed for her to be softer

Though I longed for her to be more fluid

Though I longed for her beyond humanness

And in the deepest parts of myself I kept her

In the image I wanted to see

To feel

To taste

To touch

To smell

To hear

And that’s when the garden started growing

I saw her smile from behind her eyes

And then she blossomed

And everything became these flowers

And everything was connected

And she was me

And I was her

And then there were only the flowers themselves

Last night my wife and I attended a Back to the Garden Woodstock tribute concert in El Cajon, California. It was part of a wonderful series of free outdoor concerts put on by the city of El Cajon every Friday night during the summer. The band is called Back to the Garden and they are all accomplished local San Diego area musicians. They often serve as the backup band for a great San Diego singer named Eve Sellis, who was performing with them last night along with fine singer named Mattie Mills.

The sun was already getting low in the sky when I went behind the stage to take pictures of the folks on stage while they were backlit. This gentleman works with the band, and was sitting on a chair on stage while enjoying the music. He reminded me of a wonderful song written by Calman Hart, who is another fine San Diego singer/songwriter, of Berkley Hart, called Old Gray Deadhead. In my mind, Calman could have written the song about this person. The song is available on Amazon and iTunes, and if you heard it I think you could relate to this picture, although, hopefully, the picture stand on its own.

Other pictures I have taken about music are in my Music set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157604237145473/

Taken at a free concert tonight in El Cajon, California. This is the band "Back To The Garden", and the picture was taken about an hour before sunset, while the band members were facing into the sun. I tarted up the color a bit in Photoshop. Good band.

Of the maybe 300+ films I saw this year, these are the best ones. Some of them were released last year and I’ve been a bit slow getting round to them. Some of them were released even longer ago. The criteria are – I watched them in 2014 and I liked them. That’s it.

This is the bass player for Eve Sellis' band, "Back to the Garden". I believe that his name is Rick Nash. I deliberately photographed this to produce silhouettes, and In Photoshop I used the threshold command to get rid of everything except for pure white and pure black. Sometimes, I use Photoshop trickery to colorize the white background. I like the kind of graphic, stylized look that this produces, and have used this in many music photographs. Incidentally, the bass player is not fat, as he looks here. There is a lead guitar player whose silhouette blends into his, and whose face is obscured by his bass and arm.

I use grass clippings in between the rows of the vegetables because I hate weeding.

Unfortunately it doesn't always work.

One of the first shots I took when I went to Sugar Mill Gardens the other day was this flower near the entrance by the gazebo.

There was a noticeable difference at the Gardens now, and I'm not sure if I like it. While on one hand, things were cleaned up a bit, as far as areas like the Master's Garden and just behind it, where black Racer Snakes used to startle people, at the same time, it lost some of its natural qualities, those that made it seem like everything just happened and wasn't contrived. It was much more "intentional" than it used to be. I suppose it's a matter of taste when it comes to gardening, and usually I'm the kind that prefers to look at really well tended gardens, more the English kind of garden vs. the French, but this time I'm not sure. It's like they got mixed up somewhere in the middle and everything was still not quite right, but a little too staged to be natural. Maybe I just don't like change.

The hurricane, soon to be tropical storm at last check, is just south of here and the skies are black as night, even though it's not quite sundown; It's been pretty dark for about an hour. the wind is really whipping, too, which makes it all the more scary that that thing is over 200 miles out from here and can still create such force. the noises I hear outside are strange....a lot of creaking and whooshing....It's going to be a long night.

You folks up north take cover! This blow promises to be pretty dreadful by the sound of it, and we're nowhere close to the eye of that thing! My head's been reeling all day from air pressure plummeting. People are laying low. There hasn't been a soul in my store for two days! You guys will be in my prayers. Oh, be sure to buy lots of batteries. We lost power once today, and that was with a 50 mph gust. Yours will be much higher than that, and for much longer. God bless!
