On Saturday, May 11th, my son Benjamin (Ben) Averitt graduated with Honors from the North Carolina State University Agronomy Department with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant and Soil Sciences - Crop Science, and a second degree in Plant Biology. He is now going to work on his Master's Degree. Words cannot express how proud I am of Ben; most fathers hope their sons will grow up to be like them, I hope I can grow to be as good a man as my son.

My Mother's Day Weekend was spent traveling to West Texas to see my grandson
get his BS from Angelo State University and his sister, our oldest grandchild receive
her Masters of Education at the same university on the same day but she chose
not to walk because she wanted her brother to have his day as she had when she
got her first degree. Both are precious grandblessings and we could not be prouder
of them and their accomplishments. Ty is a three time All-American for Angelo State
University in the Javelin and came close to breaking the school's record in it. He also
won at a track meet the week before graduation and was only 3 feet short of qualifying
for the Olympic trials but he still has more opportunity for that so we wish him the
best of luck!!!

Fire up the system.

Full name and name of my school blurred because I'm paranoid like that. :)
I did it. I finally did it. It's weird to think that 4 years of late nights and all nighters, endless amounts of coffee, tears, stress, tests, papers, and homework are finally over. I look back on who I was when I started...fresh out of high school, young(er) and (more) naive, and I'm just amazed at the changes that have taken place. I walked off of campus after picking up my diploma today smiling, but part of me was sad. It was very bittersweet.
Goodbye undergrad, hello future.

The nut, as they say, doesn't fall far from the tree. I have an engineering degree so my son decided to wear two tassels on his graduation cap. The tassel on the right is his, and the tassel on the left is mine. If my daughter decides to get an engineering degree too, we told her that she'll have to wear three tassels on her graduation cap. ;-)
