Also known as Cornflower.

Cornflower is herbaceous plant that belongs to the daisy family.

It originates from Europe, but it can be found in many countries around the world today (it is especially common and widespread in North America and Australia). Cornflower tolerates various types of soil. It can grow exposed to full sun or in the partial shade.

This came up in my wild flowers and I thought it was lovely.

Have a lovely weekend

I was recently granted access to this empty old farm site. A pair of life long bachelor brothers farmed here for years.

These little flowers grew from a bag of wildflower seeds that I planted in a pot, along with Cosmos that are really tall... so I put hardware cloth around the pot for support... and these little flowers found their way out to show their faces!!

My Garden.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment and favoring my images. Enjoy the day.

Flower gardeners can’t go wrong with the old-fashioned annual cornflower (Centaurea cyranus). This plant's double 1 1/2-inch blooms resemble miniature carnations and are easy to grow. Originally a native European and Asian pasture flower, cornflower was largely eradicated in its natural habitat by the use of modern herbicides due to the fact that it can reseed rampantly if not kept in check. Nevertheless, everyday gardeners should be awarded at least one "can’t-fail plant" in their garden, making this lightly fragrant addition perfect for a beginner’s landscape.

Cornflower's delicate papery discs are surrounded by bracts that flower atop slim stems of narrow gray-green leaves. Mature plants will reach a height of up to 48 inches, and a spread of 12 inches wide in all growing zones. Dense bright blue blooms last from spring through midsummer. This species also boasts several cultivars offering pink, white, and crimson flowers, as well.

Hi Everyone,

After last Sunday's post of an "electrifying pelican" slider, I decided to post a slider that was a little tamer.

The wildflower is a Bachelor Button which I spotted while on my trip. The image was processed in Photoshop Elements 15. My goal was to have it look more like a painting than a photograph.

Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

I truly appreciate your views and comments, THANK YOU! Have a marvelous day today!

Got in even closer today with a 36mm extension tube on my 100mm lens but very shallow dof. I have been enjoying the challenge of shooting moving bees close up and have an abundance of them every morning so I am taking advantage of the opportunity.

Bachelor's button (Centaurea cyanus) is a lightly fragrant, self-seeding wildflower native to Europe and Asia. Also known as cornflower, the most common variety boasts bright blue flowers and tall, sturdy stems. However, there are several varieties and unique cultivars with colors ranging from pink and white to purple and black.

Cornflowers were worn by young men (bachelors) in love . . . if the flower faded too quickly it meant his love was not returned . . .

Sometimes called Mountain Cornflower. A very hard flower to focus on. I think my eyes are now messed up....lol.

Mt. Bachelor is one of the most popular ski destinations in the Pacific Northwest.

"Mount Bachelor, formerly named Bachelor Butte, is a stratovolcano atop a shield volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of central Oregon. Mount Bachelor is so called because it "stands apart" from the Three Sisters (below), a group of three volcanic mountains that are northwest of Mount Bachelor."

A bit of a different angle on Proctor Hill as recently returned 909 leads an empty ore train past Bachelor's Curve on Proctor Hill. This spot is on list for fall, as it always is along the Lake Superior maple belt.

Cornflowers come in many colours and flower for a long time.

Early morning sun on Sparks Lake with Mt. Bachelor in the background. A bit of smoke from nearby forest fires dampens the image vibrancy.

bon dimanche à tous...

have a great Sunday, my friends.

Another "cool" image for a hot summer day. Walking thru the snow and slush this day is a refreshing memory.

Mount Bachelor ski area operates a chairlift during the summer as well as during the ski season making it the only major Cascade volcano with a chairlift to the summit. Nationally known, the resort is one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.
