Fellow mountain lovers hiking toward Burroughs Mountain with Mt. Rainier looming large straight ahead. I wanted to give the mountain a hug, and this gets you pretty close.

There are 3 summits to Burroughs. That is the first summit ahead. I made it as far as the 2nd summit where I hung out taking in the amazing view. Wish I'd pushed on to the 3rd summit now......Gets you even closer.

"Burroughs Mountain has been described as a mountain against a mountain. At over 7800 feet, Burroughs Mountain sets right up against the northeastern face of Mount Rainier, hugging the Winthrop Glacier. It offers one of the most dramatic views of Washington's largest volcano."

Happy Friday!

Descending from the 2nd Burroughs and heading higher to the Third (at 7828 ft / 2386 m on the right)

That mountain, I believe, is Glacier Peak, as seen from the Burroughs Mountain hike at Mt. Rainier NP.

This picture from last summer is a reminder that I should do more hiking this summer.

I think they were actually average-sized people, but... you know...

Burroughs Mountain Trail (Mt. Rainier NP)

A view looking north, northwest, from the scene I posted yesterday (in comments below).

Sluiskin Mountain, with it's separate Squaw and Chief peaks, Skyscraper peak and Mt. Fremont in view, left to right. I believe that is Glacier Peak far far away and barely visible in the distance.

A portion of the Wonderland Trail that circles Mt. Rainier in view as well.

What a grand hike it was.

Thanks for taking a look!

It was about here, First Burroughs Peak (7000') that I realize that the clouds have beat me to the top which is a shame because you could really see the blue of the glacier through the snow top left much more clearly earlier. It's about 1/2 mile further and 400' in elevation to Second Burroughs. Looked easy from here, but I had to stop twice....

Blow it up an take a second while standing in front of your open refrigerator.

After frequent prodding by Garshna to check out Burroughs 3, I decided the hottest day of the year was the best time to set off on the driest, most exposed trail I've ever hiked.... :-) Karen Sykes called it a thigh burner and she was right. It's only nine miles out and back, but you have to climb Burroughs 2 twice with an elevation gain of 2,600 feet. On my way back a guy asked me if it was worth the hike since the view was so amazing from 2 already, I laughed, hesitated for just a moment because I'd already decided that I'm not going back unless my daughter makes me, but yes. If you can get there you simply must, the last bit is steep as heck and dang Burroughs 2 is between you and the parking lot, but the views are astounding...oh and if you wear shorts, put the sunblock on your legs too.... :-)

I hesitate to say 'blow it up' because it is a volcano so.... enlarge it and step into my little world. :-)

More shots of the Iron Age fort at Burrough Hill, showing a decent view of the univallate earthwork around the edge of the fort.

Got a new super wide. Having fun with it, but still learning how to use it .... this was shot from the 3rd Burroughs (RT 8.9 mi, 2600' gain, high pt 7828'). The last time we were up there it was early summer and covered in snow. We met a lot of skiers that day. It was pretty quiet while we were here this time ... just a couple of hikers.

A quick shot from the 2nd Burroughs before heading over to the 3rd (on the upper right), and looking far below at the White River and Glacier Basin. The last time we did 3rd Burroughs we hiked up from the Glacier Basin trail ... hitting solid snow on that avy slope there just before topping out between the two. One time we camped on the shoulder of Mt Ruth on snow in late May ... we set up about midway on that long ridge just above the river on the left. And, then we also successfully climbed Rainier via the Emmons Glacier in 2007 ... from Glacier Basin, up the steep Inner Glacier, crossing over and dropping down onto the Emmons thru that notch just beyond Ruth's summit on Steamboat Prow, and then up to Camp Schurman where we based. It's always fun to gaze out from these view points around the Mountain and reminisce about where we've been, and dream about where we still want to go ... we always hoped to some day camp up on the Fryingpan Glacier at the foot of Little T (there on the far left).

A selfie taken from atop the Second Borroughs Mountain. Thankfully I rose above the clouds revealing a sweet view of this place. This is a composite image of 25 vertical images shot @ 100mm on my RF 100-500mm. A sort of "Brenizer" style shot except the depth of field isn't super shallow.

fantastic 13 miles loop starting from White River campground at Mount Rainier, WA. we hesitated going to 3rd Burroughs as we underestimated the amount of snow but we ended up taking the risk. it was phenomenal. Mount Rainier is on the background.

on a side note, as I have started running on roads and trails two years ago, I'll have a lot of trail related shots to process. first serious shot taken with the Iphone 13. forgot to click on the RAW option for the camera. it'll be for next time.

on the photo: Stephane Boss.

He wants his shit back.

Red Jack and Rhea: I love making characters no one else has made before. To my knowledge anyways.

The Doom Patrol: Courtesy of Grant Morrison. Dorothy's head isn't ideal, but then again, what's more deformed than a Clone Wars head? Also FeelOkayInc correctly pointed out that Rebis needs more boots. He is correct, and I hang my head in shame.

The Brain and Mallah: They deserved better.

I swear I'll move on from Doom Patrol soon. Or will I.

The undertaker's carriage deposited us on the outskirts of a gloomy little hamlet consisting of houses that were built upon the trunks of what looked like dead trees. We had a feeling of deep despair as we watched the carriage disappear the way it had come. Grimwood Burrough looked even more dreary than the undertakers carriage. As usual, there was no heading back, so we plunged into the hamlet looking for someone to help us in our quest to find Ruby Falls.

B+W for this shot of the RAC monument on the edge of the hill.

Some lovely Spring colours (enhanced)

On the way to Thornton reservoir, but first a bit of sunbathing near the woods! ☺

Burrough Hill is an iron age hill fort in Leicestershire, just south of Melton Mowbray; I've tried to give a good impression of the massive earthwork here.

A few shots from last night up on Second Burroughs. Here you can see the crowd over on Fremont Lookout from Second Burroughs.

Hiked to 3rd Burroughs Mountain from Sunrise, Washington, Mount Rainier National Park. The most people hiking on a weekday than I have ever seen on these trails. Seven mile round trip to 3rd Burroughs. Beautiful sunny day but a relief from the heat the most of eastern Washington is experiencing. IMG_7821
