I was in Birmingham launching the most radical and ambitious Labour manifesto our country has ever seen. (21st November, 2019)

It is a manifesto of hope.

Over the next three weeks, they are going to tell you that everything in this manifesto is impossible.

Because they don’t want real change.

Ignore the wealthy and powerful who tell you that’s not possible.

The future is ours to make, together.

The City Of Birmingham Announces Birmingham Careers, Earn While You Learn Initiative.

Young millennials have voiced their opinions lately about the lack of job opportunities available to high school and college graduates in metro Birmingham. The City of Birmingham apparently has heard the concerns and have created an opportunity for students to earn money while they’re learning on the job training and development skills.

This morning, a press conference was held at Wenonah High School and featured comments from Councilor Johnathan F. Austin (District 5) x Jay Roberson (District 7) x Sheila Tyson (District 6) x Curt Atkinson (AIDA Project) x Monty Edwards (Trane Corp) and Michael Robinson with UAB Innovate Birmingham.

Counselor Tyson spoke positively about the new initiative sharing the opportunity is for individuals aged 17 – 29. Tyson further explained that the job training programs could lead to potential earnings of $22/hr.

Councilor Jay Roberson also spoke favorably of the new initiative saying that it could stimulate possible nine hundred jobs.

Anyone interested in this new initiative can stop by Innovate Birmingham 1500 1st Avenue N #31 Birmingham, Alabama 35203 or they can apply at innovatebham.com.

All speakers asked that we spread the word to ensure that respective candidates apply for the paid internships.

John Sadler (1720-1789) started business as a printer in Liverpool from about 1748. At the time Liverpool had a thriving pottery industry and the wares included painted tin-glazed fireplace tiles. In 1749 Sadler began a series of experiments to decorate tiles through transfer-printing the design, which would be quicker and cheaper and undercut the Dutch manufacturers supplying the English market. Sadler knew Guy Green (died 1799), who worked in the printing business of John Sadler's father, Adam Sadler. By 1756 Sadler and Green were working together to perfect the process of transfer-printing on tiles.

Birmingham is beautiful. Just look!

A week end spent in the beautiful city of Birmingham. A gem of a city with fantastic combination of old and new buildings.

So much to see as a photographer.

Birmingham Cathedral

Birmingham's church of St Philip was designed by Thomas Archer in 1709 and largely finished by 1715 (the tower being completed 1725). The original stone weathered badly so the exterior was entirely refaced in the 1860s (though the tower had to wait till 1958) and a new larger chancel replaced Archer's shallow apse at the east end in 1883-4 (by J.A, Chatwin).

The church was designated as the cathedral of the new Birmingham Diocese in 1905 and is one of the only 'parish church cathedrals' which hasn't undergone any structural alteration since it's change in status. It does still possess the feel of a grand city church, rather than a cathedral in the true sense.

The real treasure of this church however is revealed within, as the interior is dominated by four superb stained glass windows by Edward Burne Jones dating from the 1880s (three in the apse, one at the west end). These are perhaps Burne Jones's finest achievements, and intentionally so, for it was in this very church the artist was baptised.

The area occupied by Brindleyplace was, at the height of Birmingham's industrial past, the site of factories, however, by the 1970s as Britain's manufacturing went into decline, the factories closed down and the buildings lay derelict for many years.

Birmingham City Council's aim was to create an environment of water features, walkways and new office and leisure buildings, that would open out onto the adjacent canal. The scheme was assembled by the council in the 1980s. The council were also seeing success with the construction of the International Convention Centre with the Symphony Hall, and the National Indoor Arena.

THIS AREA IS NOW VERY BUSY WITH OFFICEWORKERS, TOURISTS AND STUDENT STOPPING FOR A BREAK IN THEIR DAY FOR LUNCH OR REFRESHMENT. HUGE CHOICE OF CAFES, BARS AND RESTAURANTS.
