Last one for today (sorry for so many posts!) The Beths were again amazing when I saw them last night at Logan Square Arts Fest! All the way from New Zealand and their live set just keeps getting better!

The Hebrew inscription here says "Beth Israel". It means, the House of Israel. Many of the first Jewish settlers in Van Diemen's Land were convicts, although free settlers also took up the challenge of moving to the colony. It wasn't difficult to be transported if you were a Jew or Irish, or some other "minority" within the British empire. If you happened upon hard times little excuse was needed to send you away to the other side of the world.
The other side of this, of course, was that many of those same convicts made great successes of themselves in the colonies after they completed their allotted punishment. One of these people was the businessman Joseph Solomon of Evandale. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/50056468461/in/album-72...
These Jewish settlers in the Launceston area were keen to establish a synagogue of their own after the Hobart Synagogue has been established in 1843. www.hobartsynagogue.org/history/

Beth was working behind the bar at the Westgate Inn, Launceston, Cornwall, UK. Sean (4/100) encouraged her to let me take her photo. The pub was really friendly all round.
Took this while sailing away from San Juan, Puerto Rico for a cruise. I love boats in general, but especially work boats..
A glorious morning on the Gold Coast. I didn't think I would get any colour but Mother Nature always surprises :)

A funny thing happened on Saturday morning. I was out shooting this overcast but calm sunrise when I heard someone yell out to me Morning Beth! I turned around and saw my boss on his morning run with his running group. He then started running back the way that he came and I yelled back "you're going the wrong way" and he waved to me then kept running. A few minutes later every single runner that jogged passed yelled out Morning Beth! :) My boss has a funny sick sense of humour but it made my morning - I have never felt so popluar LOL.

I spotted Beth walking down the street, looking cool in her hat. The light and shadows were quite strong at this time of day, which typically isn't ideal for portraits. But I'm quite pleased with the way this turned out. There is sufficient detail on Beth's face to make it personable, but also the strong contrast gives a sense of her attempted defense from the harsh light.
