Jingle Bells,Jingle Bells,Schlittenfahrt im Schnee,hey

Durch den weißen Winterwald,übern zugefrornen See,hey

Jingle Bells,Jingle Bells,Pony laufen schnell

Jingle Bells……

Jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way

Oh,what fun it is to ride In a one horse sleigh, hey

Jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way

And oh,what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh.

Dashing through the snow in a one- horse open sleigh,Over the fields we go, laughing all the way.

Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright

What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.Refrain:Jingle, bells!Jingle, bells!Jingle all the way!O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!Jingle, bells!Jingle, bells…..

Actually they were white.

Here we are, back in Seattle from our journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Olympic, Mt. Rainier and Cascades National Parks. The time we spent in Washington State was memorable. We travelled up mountains, visited the ocean and walked through rain forests, thoroughly enjoying the beauty of unique and rugged landscapes. We have seen turquoise rivers and stunning waterfalls, smelled the moist of the green moss in the rain forest, and marveled at several lakes along our way.

Our journey started and finished in Seattle an interesting coastal seaport City. Prior to our first departure from Seattle to our various destinations, we visited the Bell Harbor Marina several times. The first time it was during the day, and made a note to visit again in the evening, which we did but the wind was extremely strong and it made impossible to take pictures. The second time was when we returned from our trip. It was early afternoon and it had started to rain so we decided to return later. Our third time was a charmer, no rain, no wind, just us, the camera and the tripod. I took several pictures of this beautiful view, finally the City and buildings lights came on and illuminated the street and the Harbor.

This image was taken at the Bell Harbor Marina, located at Pier 66 at the downtown Seattle waterfront. I took the picture from the rooftop of a Cruise Terminal located adjacent to the marina. The rooftop is a large deck and a public park which offers spectacular views of downtown Seattle, Seattle Skyline and the Harbor.

Looking down on the bells from above in the clock tower, Zadar.

Eight frame panorama of the Maroon Bells.

We hopped up before sunrize knowing we had only one day to see the sunrise on the Maroon Bells. Rain, wind, cold and a dusting of new snow way up high! We went anyway.

Although we never saw the sun, rise on the mountains or the glass-smooth lake with the mountains' reflection, we were greeted with outstanding Aspens changing color, ribbons of light splashing across the mountainsides and boiling dark skies. No two minutes were the same. I'll post a few of the things I experimented with in the next month or so. There are many. Let's just say the shutter on my camera is just now cooling off.

Thanks for stopping by!

It chimes quite well !

Bell pepper. It is a quite small type, like 5cm only. The seed close to the top give an idea of the scale.

For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "Ring the bell"

This is the only bell I have. It is a miniature of the Japanese temple bells, and hanging down is a long paper strip with the prayer written on it. The sound is lovely, gentle and pure, and I tried to capture its movement as it sways in the breeze, and to suggest the meditative quality of its sound by adding some incense. I did some research online to find out more about it ....

"Cast iron furin wind bell following a temple bell design, with greenish finish. Originally they were hung at each corner of a temple to frighten away evil spirits. Now they are used as wind chimes, being hung during summer time in Japan, the bells have a pure, gentle tone."

Cliche and Smile on Saturday: Here

Funeral bell, deadly skullcap or deadly galerina: the common names for Galerina marginata are ominous! This common wood-rotting mushroom is as toxic as death cap mushrooms, so don't even taste it.

This old cow bell belonged to my partner's grandfather. We have it hanging on an antique plow in the rock garden. Little things like this add so much interest to a garden.

Charleston Farmhouse and Garden, located on the South Downs outside the village of Firle, near Alfriston, East Sussex, was the home or weekend and holiday retreat of Bloomsbury Group figures Vanessa Bell and Clive Bell, Vanessa’s companion Duncan Grant, and Vanessa’s children, Quentin and Julian, from 1916 until the 1960’s. On a Friday afternoon in July, we toured Charleston with Flickr contact Penwren, who graciously met us in Alfriston and first showed us the village and church in Firle, where Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Quentin Bell are buried.

Photography is not allowed in the house itself, so these pictures are of the garden only. The house itself was indescribable, with every square inch covered in enchanting Modernist artwork of all kinds, and the guided tour, lasting over an hour, was outstandingly well presented and informative.

Penwren added the following comment to one of the pictures in this set: Sir Peter Shepheard, in charge of the restoration (of the garden in the 1980’s), has described it as an "apotheosis of the traditional English cottage garden." He wrote notes to remind himself to "avoid neatness". Like the house, it was not intended to be tasteful or restrained. Interestingly, the garden has been organic since the 80s.

The story of Charleston and its occupants is told very well in the book Charleston, a Bloomsbury House and Garden, by Quentin Bell and his daughter, Virginia Nicholson (Frances Lincoln – paperback edition 2004). Alibris.com had numerous copies available in August, 2008 at: www.alibris.com/booksearch?qwork=1025402 &matches=16&a...

We also enjoyed two small books published by Snake River Press and available by mail or in person at the excellent Much Ado Books in Alfriston: Bloomsbury in Sussex, and 20 Sussex Gardens (https://muchadobooks.com)

The list of visitors reads like a Who's Who of English intellectual and artistic life in the first half of the 20th Century: Leonard and Virginia Woolf (Vanessa's sister), Lytton Strachey, John Maynard Keynes, T.S. Elliot, Benjamin Britten are just a few.

The view from Bell Tor, Dartmoor National Park.

Thanks for looking - Mk.
