According to Wikipedia, the name sanderling derives from Old English sand-yrðling, which translates to "sand-ploughman". This individual is special as it has what looks to be a short strand of blue nylon rope/string stuck in the fine feathers just in front of the eye. Yet another sign of just how much plastic is floating around in the oceans, with a sizeable amount being microscopic bits that get ingested by countless organisms.
The joy of being home,
Familiar surroundings,
cosying up with myself.

Typical for the Charente département of France: a country road, ancient trees, stone walls, a lovely country house and a little church in the distance. Here in Aizeq.

Being walkers with the dawn and morning,
Walkers with the sun and morning,
We are not afraid of night,
Nor days of gloom,
Nor darkness—
Being walkers with the sun and morning.

It took a long time before the beings let It roam around, not too close, but not so far away from their sight. They would still keep silence on Its presence, keep a tense stance and remain aware of their surroundings, recognizing the predator that It truly was but accepting that in that moment It represented no threat..
Humans would also recognize It but rather as a guardian of the forests where It would roam, respecting its presence and even in counted occasions, bowing to It while leaving a small prey as an offer, most times It would return the gesture and retire in silence as to not intrude their activities since they were still evolving and It did not want to have any influence on them.
Those efforts did not last once those human groups often quiet and respectful broke into the forest to fight for land and a strange new concept that seemed so foreign to them considering their brittle nature: power. These creatures were totally powerless against the nature, they were fragile and mortal, even in their prime there were so many threats surrounding them constantly that It's mind could not comprehend the reasoning behind the fight. More reason for It to avoid them, hiding and running away from the conflict.
Animals were different to humans, they fought because of hunger, because of reproduction and territories which would come to close the circle as it would involve food. Again some seasons where harsher than the others and the possibility to starve during a cold winter was always there.
Things were changing among those pesky humans. It noticed first that they would hunt prey for hunger, but every now and then, also for pleasure and the sake of hurting other creatures. Sometimes to bring misery and destruction to their own kind was more important than survival itself. To destroy all resources to prevent others to survive was more important than their own chances.
The time for a shift was approaching and its endeavors have been unsuccessful for quite a long time now, yet there was still a chance if It traveled further to the North where humans did not roam as often, the vast dark forests extended offering It protection and the cold, oh the cold! It prevented the human legions to set foot to settle on the harsh landscapes. The animals had to live and survive in packs, as climate was often cruel.
The following beast that It chose to assimilate next was a wolf, a young female that would probably have more chances to be accepted than a male loner. Getting close to their packs to watch over them was near impossible at times, as an animated carcass, It did not hibernate and this would freak the life out of the rest of the creatures whom would run at the sight of the already deformed and partially rot bear.
Humans had not run from It the last time, they had carry tools made of minerals and polished pieces of wood and stood defiantly glaring into its direction. How odd, these creatures seemed to have lost the ability to identify It as a predator, all sense of respect for its existence. Was this the real reason behind their extinction? Their inability to identify danger?
Being in the spotlight sometimes does not come easy for some of us..
But if you happen to enjoy the lime light you go for it, some like to hide away at the back of the the room, not just because they are being unsociable but because they don't have the confidence...
But some people thrive on being out there... confident in what they say and do, if your one of them I say good luck to you...

Currently being used as a storage building for Strathspey Steam Railway Volunteers.
Broomhill railway station or Broomhill for Nethy Bridge railway station is a reconstructed railway station on the former Highland Railway main line which was originally built to serve the small villages of Nethy Bridge and Dulnain Bridge in Strathspey. It is at present the eastern terminus of the Strathspey Steam Railway.
The railway station was opened by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway (I&PJR) on its line to Forres in 1863, via Grantown-on-Spey (West), Dava, etc.
In 1923 the HR became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and at nationalisation in 1948 became part of British Railways. The line was recommended for closure by Dr Beeching's report "The Reshaping of British Railways" and closed on 18 October 1965.
Following closure in 1965 the station was demolished leaving only the platform and the nearby stationmaster's house. On 31 May 2002 the Strathspey Railway (preserved) re-opened the old station following its reconstruction.
The Great North of Scotland Railway's (GNoSR) Broomhill Junction lay on the line towards Boat of Garten and at this point the original GNoSR Strathspey Railway diverged, crossing the River Spey to reach Nethy Bridge, Grantown-on-Spey, Aberlour, Cromdale, Craigellachie, etc. The Highland Railway (HR) line ran parallel from Boat of Garten station to avoid the cost of a signal box and famously the two lines had different coloured ballast.
The lightness of being with the blue sky, the soft sun and a small breeze from the sea at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. At the right the ramparts of Mont Saint-Michel, the Gabriel Tour with his bartizan and the building of Guardhouse bourgeois (currently gendarmerie).
One of France's most recognisable landmarks, Mont Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and more than 3 million people visit it each year (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Saint-Michel).
Yes, it is mine...you know how you buy that piece of clothing in a foreign country because it looks so right there but on returning home you realize you will never wear it.
Well one year I was in London in January when Harrods had their crazy clearance sales, and the hat was just so fascinating. The next day the reality of packing it for the return trip hit me and I finally had to give up and wear it home.
This is where it all paid off. While I was waiting to board, the gate counter called me up and asked if I would mind being bumped to FIRST CLASS...not Business, but FIRST CLASS. Would I mind??? Well what an eye opener to see how the privileged travel. Most of my fellow first classer's were a rock band and their leggy blonde girlfriends, but it didn't interfere with my best flight ever (and I have been flying internationally since I was 7). It had to be the HAT! So every now and then I pull the hat from the back closet and dream about being bumped to first class again (which of course has never repeated)...hmm maybe I should start wearing it for all my flights.
Thank you so much for your visit!

being alone, surrounded by shadows and lights ... talking to myself with my inner voice ... and I love it ...
Looking at the world through my eyes
Its to understand that I see it the
way I have been taught to.
I see my world.
I see myself.
For what I choose to see is eventually
my own reflection. It reflects my
experiences, my history – what I see
is my mirror.
So how can I stop being locked
Within myself? How can I look
Beyond my locks?

Show me the meaning of being lonely
So many words for the broken heart
It’s hard to see in a crimson love
So hard to breathe
Walk with me, and maybe
Nights of light so soon become
Wild and free I could feel the sun
Your every wish will be done
They tell me...
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with
Tell me why I can’t be there where you are
There’s something missing in my heart
Life goes on as it never ends
Eyes of stone observe the trends
They never say forever gaze
Guilty roads to an endless love
There’s no control
Are you with me now
Your every wish will be done
They tell me
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with
Tell me why I can’t be there where you are
There’s something missing in my heart
There’s nowhere to run
I have no place to go
Surrender my heart, body and soul
How can it be you’re asking me to feel the things you never show
You are missing in my heart
Tell me why I can’t be there where you are
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with
Tell me why I can’t be there where you are
There’s something missing in my heart
Special thanx to (( ĶǎŤҜФФФŦ )) for the picture ^_*
I had wanted to get to this location, on the west side of Canyon Diablo, for a long time. The road in is just as bad as on the east side, but this is surely the road less traveled. The remote nature of this area makes for some interesting contrasts in compositions.
The goal was to photograph the bridge from the east side in evening light, but as I surveyed this location, just about a half mile short of my target, it was clear that plans had to change. The vast open landscape made it clear that there was an opportunity to capture something special, all I needed was train.
As the sun started to set behind the San Francisco Peaks my hopes were fading as fast as the light. Off in the distance, the faint glow of a headlight magically appeared, and what unfolded as the eastbound stack raced toward me was nothing short of spectacular, another one of those times that it would be nice just to stand and watch it unfold only to be remembered by me.
But, I am here to capture railroad moments in time so capture I did.
The late Steve Schmollinger once titled an article in CTC board or Trains, my old mind can't remember which, "Being There", his wisdom struck me then, as a much younger guy and has always stayed with me that, locations and light paired together are a beautiful thing.
Being an Englishman, it's almost expected that I will love tea. In fact, I've never developed a taste for it - really don't like it at all.
Not tried nettle tea but suspect it's likely to be at least as unappealing!
Love coffee though.
Having alienated all the tea drinkers (!) HMBT everyone :-)
