I gave this shot the title of BBB, standing for Bloody Big Blue Heron. When he swooped in I was unprepared for him because I was photographing the landscape. That means my settings were incorrect for a bird in flight, not on tracking mode, and set for single shot. He was so big that when he arrived he scared off the other Heron that was three quarters his size. It too had swooped in, just seconds before the larger one. My guess is that the area was not good for fishing because the latter soon left. I was busy changing my settings when he decided to leave, so I went with what I had and got one presentable image. He sure was a big one.

Amegilla on pink salvia, a Blue Banded Bee Amegilla sp. and belonging to the family Apidae. 5 blue bands on the abdomen show it is a male, about 11mm long.
"Tomatoes (and many Australian native plants) are 'buzz pollinated': the flower is like a salt and pepper shaker and bees shake the pollen out through pores in the anthers," said native bee expert Dr Katja Hogendoorn from the University of Adelaide.
Flowers have nectar to reward insects for collecting pollen and distributing it. This bee is robbing nectar from the side of the salvia flower without collecting pollen, because it can't go in the usual way as the flower is narrow and only allows for very small insects to collect pollen and nectar...
Blue Banded Bees are one of our most beautiful Australian native bees... about 11 mm long and have bands of metallic blue fur across their black abdomens...occuring across most of Australia.
For all those who have promised themselves a visit to the Natural History Museum in London and haven't yet made it, this is what the main entrance hall looks like now. Diplodocus has been replaced by a whale skeleton. Impressive but it's not dippi.
Good bye skull :) Hello summer <3
