Bauhaus Dessau – you might think these words just belong together. And if you travel to Dessau today, you will indeed still find many of the original buildings from this school of architecture. Due to the importance of the Bauhaus as one of the nuclei of modern architecture, the UNESCO declared the Bauhaus buildings a World Heritage Site. Today, you can simply visit most of the buildings and see how the Bauhaus began.

Founded in 1919, the Bauhaus was a school of avant-garde architecture, design and art. This avant-garde building, designed by Bauhaus' founder Walter Gropius, presents paintings, drawings, sculptures, models and other objects and documents by such famous artist-teachers as Klee, Feininger and Kandinsky.
The interior could not be visited now, as it is closed. The building expansion by a Berlin architect, Volker Staab, is now being planned. (source: Lonely Planet Berlim)
