from Wiki: The tent-making bat (Uroderma bilobatum) is an American leaf-nosed bat (Phyllostomidae) found in lowland forests of Central and South America. This medium-sized bat has a gray coat with a pale white stripe running down the middle of the back. Its face is characterized by a fleshy noseleaf and four white stripes. Primarily a frugivore, it may supplement its diet with insects, flower parts, pollen, and nectar. Its common name comes from its curious behavior of constructing tents out of large, fan-shaped leaves. These roosts provide excellent protection from the tropical rains, and a single tent roost may house several bats at once. This bat is quite common in its geographic range; hence, its conservation status is listed as Least Concern.

Hi everyone who is interested in what's been going on with the bat care. Here is a little update.

Harley the brown long Eared bat was successfully released back to the wild but Biscuit another Long Eared has gone to North Devon Bat Care as he had a damaged ear and we are not sure he is able to feed himself in the wild.Roly the female Common Pipistrelle is now back in the wild.

We picked up a young male Common Pip from a local vet,he was a little underweight but no injuries. So we built his weight up and when ready took him to NDBC to see how he flew. All was good with him so last week we returned him to where he was found and released him back which was a wonderful sight as all the other bat from the roost came out and greeted and danced in the air with him.

We had a male Soprano Pip found in a laundry basket who had a stomach upset. We gave him a little TLC and after it was better he went back and was released.

We picked up another Long Eared found in Bude but we had no information to where she was found so we took her to NDBC and she was put with some other Long Ears and has now been released with some new friends.

Two week ago we were called to a factory to collect a Whiskered Bat which we think got trapped in the building when it was shut down for a few days.He is a little underweight but is doing well and will soon be going back.

Now for the bad.We had a Pip brought to us which had been caught by a cat.He unfortunately didn't make it.

Last week we were called to collect another Pip again another cat incident. He was in a bad way and had multiple breaks in is arm, wrist and shoulder and had to be euthanized.we also learnt that their cat had caught two other beforehand both of which were killed by their cat.We gave the owners some advice on keeping their cat in between dusk and dawn but were called back late one night to pick up another Pip.He was also in a very bad way with puncture wounds, wing tears and exposed bones. We gave him pain relief and knew we would have to take him to the vet in the morning to be euthanized but he died a short while after : (

So that what's been going on and I will keep anyone who is interested informed every so often : )

The Bates Manufacturing Company was established in Lewiston, Maine in 1850 by Benjamin Bates. It quickly became one of the largest textile manufacturers in New England and transformed Lewiston from a struggling agricultural town into a booming industrial city. By 1857, the Bates Mill in Lewiston ran 36,000 spindles, employed 1,000 hands, and annually turned out 5.7 million yards of the best quality of cotton goods. Even after winning multiple achievements and awards for his textiles, including “Best Pantaloon Stuffs” and “Best Plain and Fancy Cotton Fabrics”, Bates wanted more. Accordingly, in 1858 the Bates Manufacturing Company wove the first Bates bedspread.

Upon the start of the Civil War, most New England mills started selling their cotton stock, assuming that the war would only last 90 days. Instead, Benjamin Bates bought as much cotton as he could find (despite the skyrocketing prices) and became the main supplier of Union textiles during the 4 year war. Even afterward, despite post-war depression, the Bates Manufacturing Company prospered and continued to expand. It was at this time that the French-Canadian population began to immigrate to Lewiston for work; even today the city of Lewiston continues to have a great French-Canadian influence (and many of the current mill workers have French-Canadian ancestors that began their American lives as mill workers).[Company website].

Lewiston is also the home of Bates College co-founded by Benjamin Bates.

Siempre nos dijeron que Batman era un apuesto ricachón muy bien entrenado pero, un humano sin súper poderes. Parece que no es verdad todo lo que nos vendieron a juzgar por ese ojo de terminator
