Un moulin, c’est d’abord une roue qu’une rivière fait tourner, ou des ailes, face au vent. Mais ce n’est pas tout ! Il existe en effet une autre sorte de moulins, les moulins à marée.
Les moulins à marée
Immédiatement, on pense à la force des marées, montantes et descendantes, et à leur capacité, grâce à cette force, à faire tourner une roue.
Et bien, pas du tout !
Le moulin à marée est construit sur une parcelle découverte à marée basse, avec une roue en son centre, et, derrière lui, un vaste emplacement cerné de murs qui forme un étang, communiquant avec le moulin par l’intermédiaire de portes en bois. Quand la marée monte, la porte de bois se soulève, et laisse entrer l’eau dans l’étang. Quand la marée est basse, le meunier ouvre une vanne, l’étang se vide… et la roue tourne.
Le Moulin du Birlot:
Le moulin à marée du Birlot a été construit entre 1633 et 1638, le propriétaire est le duc de Penthièvre, fils illégitime d’Henri IV, et seigneur de l’île de Bréhat, titre quand même assez important pour une si petit île !
C’était un moulin « banal », ce qui ne veut pas dire du tout qu’il était quelconque, mais que tous les habitants du territoire, nommé « banlieue », étaient obligés d’aller y moudre leur grain, moyennant quelques menues monnaies, bien sûr !
De dégradations en réparations, il a continué sa petite vie de moulin jusque vers 1920, date à laquelle un boulanger est venu s’installer sur l’île, et s’est mis à importer sa farine. Les habitants ont bien apprécié ce pain blanc, et, de marée en marée, le pauvre Moulin a perdu toute rentabilité, et s’est finalement arrêté. Les dures lois de la concurrence, déjà !
Mais, en 1990, la commune rachète le site, avec la digue et l’étang ! Aujourd’hui, une association veille sur lui et sur son entretien.

Tide mills
Immediately one thinks of the force of the tides, rising and falling, and their ability, through this force, to turn a wheel.
Well, not at all!
The tidal mill is built on a plot uncovered at low tide, with a wheel at its center, and behind it a large walled site that forms a pond, communicating with the mill through wooden doors. When the tide rises, the wooden gate lifts, allowing water to enter the pond. When the tide is low, the miller opens a sluice gate, the pond empties ... and the wheel spins.
The Moulin du Birlot:
The Birlot tidal mill was built between 1633 and 1638, the owner is the Duke of Penthièvre, illegitimate son of Henri IV, and lord of the island of Bréhat, a title which is nevertheless quite important for such a small island!
It was a "banal" mill, which does not mean at all that it was ordinary, but that all the inhabitants of the territory, called "suburb", were obliged to go and grind their grain there, for a few small change. , of course !
From damage to repair, he continued his small life as a mill until around 1920, when a baker moved to the island, and began importing his flour. The locals really enjoyed this white bread, and, from tide to tide, poor Moulin lost all profitability, and finally came to a standstill. The harsh laws of competition, already!
But, in 1990, the town bought the site, along with the dike and the pond! Today, an association is watching over him and his upkeep.

So Summer has finally arrived! and very Bright at that! Walking in the Gaasperpark my camera caught this colorful scene: the flotilla of the Yachting Society "Gaasperplas". It's for training 8-12 year olds to be good sailors.
The Gaasperplas is a small lake to the south of Amsterdam. It was dug at the end of the 1960s in the marshes of the rivulet 'de Gaasp' for sand to top up the building grounds for what was to become a 'banlieue' of Amsterdam not far away: the Bijlmermeer. It's quite deep for such a lake, dropping quite steeply to 35 m. and the water is exquisite on a nice Bright Summer's day!

This Mandarin Duck has been spotted on and off at Burnaby Lake Regional Park in the suburbs of Vancouver for about 3 years. Nobody really knows where it came from. One possibility is that it might have escaped or been released. The species is native to East Asia where it is typically migratory. There are some feral populations in the USA and Europe. This particular male hangs out with the Wood Ducks, a cousin species, at the park and is courting one of the females who bear similarities with female Mandarin ducks. I don't know if they can hybridize. This duck sure draws the photographers' attention particularly at this time of year with its dazzling breeding plumage.
Ce Canard Mandarin est fréquemment observé au Parc Régional du Lac Burnaby en banlieue de Vancouver depuis environ 3 ans. Personne ne sait vraiment d'où il vient. Une possibilité est qu'il ait été relâché ou se soit échappé. C'est une espèce typiquement migratoire qui est native de l'Asie de l'Est. Il y a des populations férales aux Etats-Unis et en Europe. Au Parc, ce mâle socialise avec les Canards Branchus, une espèce cousine, et courtise une des femelles Branchus qui sont semblables aux femelles Mandarins. J'ignore si l'hybridation est possible. Ce canard attire toujours l'attention des photographes surtout à ce temps-ci de l'année quand il a repris son plumage nuptial éblouissant.

Om ervaring op te doen met dubbeldeksmaterieel heeft de NS in oktober 1980 proefritten in de reizigersdienst gereden met dubbeldeks voorstadsmaterieel van de SNCF. De trein maakte elke dag een retourrit in de spits van Amersfoort naar Amsterdam CS op een tijdstip dat een goede foto maken vrijwel onmogelijk was. De overbrengingsrit terug naar Frankrijk reed echter wel perfect voor het licht, waarbij deze foto is gemaakt.
In order to obtain experience with double-decker rolling stock, the NS has tested in October 1980 a set of SNCF double-deck suburban coaches. The train made a return trip every day during rush hour from Amersfoort to Amsterdam CS at a time when taking a good photo was almost impossible. However, the transfer ride back to France offered a good possibilty to make a decent picture of this train.
Um Erfahrungen mit Doppelstockwagen zu sammeln, hat die NS im Oktober 1980 SNCF-Doppelstocktwagen für dev Vorortsverkehr getestet. Der Zug fuhr jeden Tag während der Hauptverkehrszeit von Amersfoort nach Amsterdam CS und zurück, zu einer Zeit, an dem ein gutes Foto fast unmöglich zu schaffen war. Die Überführungsfahrt zurück nach Frankreich bot jedoch eine gute Möglichkeit, ein anständiges Bild von diesem Zug zu machen.
Afin d'acquérir de l'expérience avec le matériel roulant à deux niveaux, la NS a testé en octobre 1980 une rame de voitures de banlieue à deux niveaux de la SNCF. Le train faisait chaque jour un aller-retour aux heures de pointe d'Amersfoort à Amsterdam CS à une horaire qui ne permette pas de prendere une bonne photo. Cependant, le trajet de retour à la France offrait une bonne possibilité de faire une image décente de ce train.
Para adquirir experiencia con material rodante de dos niveles, la NS probó en octubre de 1980 un tren de vagones suburbanos de dos niveles SNCF. El tren hizo un viaje de ida y vuelta todos los días durante las horas pico desde Amersfoort a Amsterdam CS en un horario que no permitía una buena foto. Sin embargo, el viaje de regreso a Francia ofreció una buena oportunidad para obtener una imagen decente de este tren.
Per acquisire esperienza con il materiale rotabile a due livelli, la NS ha testato nell'ottobre 1980 un treno di carrozze suburbane a due livelli della SNCF. Il treno effettuava un viaggio di andata e ritorno ogni giorno nelle ore di punta da Amersfoort ad Amsterdam CS con un orario che non consentiva una buona foto. Tuttavia, il viaggio di ritorno in Francia ha offerto una buona opportunità per avere un'immagine decente di questo treno.
A fim de ganhar experiência com material rodante de dois níveis, o NS testou em outubro de 1980 um comboio de carruagens suburbanos de dois níveis da SNCF. O comboio fazia uma viagem de ida e volta todos os dias na hora do rush de Amersfoort para Amsterdam CS em um horário que não permitia uma boa foto. No entanto, a viagem de volta à França ofereceu uma boa oportunidade para obter uma imagem decente deste comboio.

Le temps file à vitesse grand G tout comme cette jolie Sittelle à poitrine rousse qui fréquente mes mangeoires depuis toujours. La maison à Duhamel La Cachette comme nous l'appelions dans la famille est maintenant vendue et nous devons quitter pour le début juin. Ce sera une nouvelle page de la vie qui débutera et une toute nouvelle aventure. Pour l'instant nous avons tout simplement loué un appartement histoire de voir si nous allons nous adapter à la vie en banlieue de Montréal pour une année et après, on verra.
Je prends encore le temps de faire quelques photos, mais j'ai très peu de temps pour aller sur Flickr, et même afficher. Voici deux photos de cette petite et sympathique sittelle qui sont à ce jour mes meilleures prises après un décollage foudroyant.

Time flies at high speed just like this pretty red-breasted nuthatch that has always frequented my feeders. The house in Duhamel La Cachette as we called it in the family is now sold and we must leave for the beginning of June. It will be a new page of life that will begin and a whole new adventure. For the moment we have simply rented an apartment to see if we will adapt to life in the suburbs of Montreal for a year and then we will see.
I still take the time to take some pictures, but I have very little time to go on Flickr, and even post. Here are two photos of this small and friendly nuthatch which are to date my best shots after a lightning takeoff.

Das Dorf Crumense, das 1251 erstmals urkundlich genannt wurde, lag an einem See der
Grunewalder Seeenkette. Nach diesem Dorf erhielt die Krumme Lanke ihren Namen.
Der See ist unterirdisch mit dem Schlachtensee verbunden.
Geschützte Schilfanpflanzungen konnten am Nordufer etabliert werden, hier hat sich inzwischen wieder ein Lebens - und Nistraum für Vögel und Insekten angesiedelt. Diese Schutzgebiete sind mit Drahtzäunen abgesichert.
Der schlauchförmige See ist 1100 Meter lang und hat einen Umfang von etwa 2,5 Kilometern, er ist bis zu 6,60 Meter tief und hat eine Fläche von etwa 154.000 m².
Er gehört zum Naherholungsgebiet vieler Berlinerinnen die im Westteil der Stadt leben. Er ist mit der S- und U Bahn gut erreichbar.

Protected reed plantations have been established on the northern shore, a habitat for birds and insects. These protected areas are secured with wire fences.
The tubular lake is 1100 meters long and has a circumference of about 2.5 kilometers, it is up to 6.60 meters deep and has an area of about 154,000 m².
It belongs to the local recreation area of many Berliners living in the western part of the city. It is easily accessible by suburban and subway.

Le village de Crumense, mentionné pour la première fois en 1251, était situé au bord d'un lac de l'île de Crumense.
Chaîne du lac Grunewald. Après ce village, le Krumme Lanke a reçu son nom.
Le lac est relié au lac Schlachtensee souterrain.
Des plantations de roseaux protégés ont été établies sur la rive nord, un habitat pour les oiseaux et les insectes. Ces zones protégées sont sécurisées par des clôtures métalliques.
Le lac tubulaire est long de 1100 mètres et a une circonférence d'environ 2,5 kilomètres, il est jusqu'à 6,60 mètres de profondeur et a une superficie d'environ 154.000 m².
Elle fait partie de la zone de loisirs de nombreux Berlinois vivant dans la partie ouest de la ville. Il est facilement accessible en banlieue et en métro.

Salamanca cuenta ya con una nueva pasarela peatonal y ciclista construida por el Ayuntamiento de Salamanca sobre el río Tormes, entre la prolongación del paseo Lunes de Aguas y la calle Juan Ruíz Peña, para mejorar la conexión entre los barrios trastormesinos y Huerta Otea. Esta gran obra de ingeniería, acerca a los barrios trastormesinos el nuevo hospital, pues hasta ahora no había ninguna comunicación entre ambas márgenes del Tormes al oeste del Puente de la Universidad.
Salamanca now has a new pedestrian and cyclist footbridge built by the Salamanca City Council over the Tormes river, between the extension of the Monday de Aguas promenade and Juan Ruíz Peña street, to improve the connection between the suburban neighborhoods and Huerta Otea. This great work of engineering brings the new hospital closer to the upheaval neighborhoods, since until now there was no communication between both banks of the Tormes to the west of the University Bridge.
Salamanque dispose déjà d'une nouvelle passerelle piétonne et cyclable construite par la mairie de Salamanque sur la rivière Tormes, entre le prolongement de la promenade Monday de Aguas et la rue Juan Ruíz Peña, pour améliorer la connexion entre les quartiers de banlieue et Huerta Otea.
