The two Raccoons that attacked my feeder last Thursday returned again for a daylight burglary next day. This marauder has actually struck this pose to re-think its approach after this one failed. They paused after a couple of failed attempts and then one climbed up the tree holding the feeder and soon the feeder was on the ground.
It was great fun seeing them involved in their hijinks again.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly about to get a surprise Bee attack while taking nectar from a Thistle.
For the curious... You are seeing an accurate depiction of the scene as I saw it. It's NOT a "composite;" that is, no post processing tricks were used to combine elements from several other images to make this photograph.
Critters are common and abundant.
When Yuki gets groomed they add a scarf around her neck to come home with. We were just fooling around a bit. She plays the part of a bandit quite well.
A young raccoon peers out from a fence post where he tried to hide. The masked bandit was not only surrounded by frost but had icy droplets on its fur. Nature provides them with that beautiful pelt and the trappers of the early mid-west found wealth in those furs.
Bandit and I would like to wish all our Flickr friends a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Thank you Adriana for taking our picture.
Mom is on the left and her three kids are on her right. (Well actually her left but our right) This was shot in late July when the kids are almost as big as mom. She's taken excellent care of them as they were fat and healthy. She brought them to our back deck every evening to clean up the scattered birdseed that the birds left behind.

A small bird with a very long blue tail that is held cocked. Breeding male has a bright pale-blue helmet, black breast, royal-blue back and chestnut shoulders. The tail is very long with small pale tips sometimes visible. Females are grayish birds with pale fronts, long blue tails, and very dark red patch between the eye and the bill (lores). This species is found in coastal New South Wales and Southeast Queensland, where it prefers wet and dense vegetation. In southeast Queensland it is believed occur mainly east of the Great Dividing Range, so take care when in this area to distinguish from Purple-backed Fairywren when close to the divide. (eBird)

Tiny birds have such feisty personalities and this little lady was no different. She stared us down through her red bandit mask until we left her in peace.

We used to get our share of Bandit's in the Upper Peninsula but they generally were road units or 1200 series SW's. I don't ever recall one of the ex MILW MP15's visiting up here. If you wanted to see them you needed to visit the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Bensenville or KC environs. Here's 1500 and 1561 hustling along at St. Paul on April 12, 1990 while a westbound BN Sealand stacker passes by on the opposite track.
Bandit is a resident eagle who lives on the James River near Richmond, Virginia. She was born at the Birmingham Zoo in 2005 and subsequently released.
She made her way to the James River and once she was discovered in 2009, she was named "Bandit" after the band on her right leg. She's a beauty and a favorite of local residents.
