Natchez Trace Parkway on February 23, 2020

A beautiful gravel stream running along side the Natchez Trace Parkway. The banks of the stream are populated with large weathered rocks coated with a layer of green moss making for a pleasing scene of the Tennessee wilderness.

Painting the accessory shop.

This unique feature is located near Castle Rock in the Porongurup Range in Western Australia. The walk to Castle Rock is 2.2km, ascending all the time. So coming to the Balancing Rock is a great excuse to stop, take a few phots and rest up before continuing.

About balance

The reason why balance is important lies in the prevalence of imbalances. Therefore, balance and imbalance are equally important. And a world that is out of balance and a world that cannot be unbalanced, or life, is equally scary and absurd. However, balance or imbalance may be just an illusion, especially when these processes are too long and exceed our patience or the length of our lives, and sometimes give us a false sense of happiness or pain. So we come to realize that balance and imbalance may be the most fundamental attribute of time, which are difficult to show in paintings

Those temple builders back then knew a thing or two about balance.

It seems like most places across the country have some version or other of a balancing rock. Certainly in Kamloops there is the well-known Coyote Balancing Rock. I recall a very large prominent one on the east cost near Peggy’s Cove and one in northern Ontario as well (I think over near Parry Sound). This is the one most noticed on Haida Gwaii. What I find interesting is that rarely do I see comment about the implications of their age. I assume deposited at the time a glacier retreated, it gives me pause to wonder how many generations of kids and eagles have sat with it.

Thanks to everyone for your faves and comments on my recent photos. I've been madly busy since then hence the radio silence. Our belongings arrived last Sunday from storage in London and we've been buried under so many boxes. We're slowly getting through them, one at a time. Life is good though. Very good. :-))

Today the work day looks so much different than it did 10 years ago. Today you can take a call when you are sitting on a dock dangling your feet in the water. You can take a call while you are hiking in the forest. I think that technology has really helped the work\life balance for many people.
