"Clamp loom" part from The Home Depot. I purchased two pieces at $0.68 each. These are made of steel and (I presume) neoprene rubber.
The new clip in place. I sandwiched the piece between two washers. I also used needlenose pliers to bend the front lip down.
The rod as it lands when it falls out of the clip. This effectively jams the trunk lid, preventing it from opening.
View from rear of pushrod in place on new clip. I rested the rod in the clip, and then adjusted the clip a bit by hand. The bottom lip of the neoprene washer serves to hold the rod in place, but does not interfere with removal.
