La città di Bosa sorge nella valle del fiume Temo, il solo navigabile in Sardegna. La città è famosa per la lavorazione e l’esportazione del corallo, così come per la lavorazione dei tessuti, per i ricami di filet e per i cesti intrecciati in asfodelo.

Il paese è immerso nelle verdeggianti vallate della Planargia, zona particolarmente rinomata per la tradizione enogastronomica e per la qualità dell’olio e dei vini. Uno fra essi, la Malvasia, ha meritato anche il marchio DOC, e gli è stato dedicato un itinerario che parte da Bosa e raggiunge gli altri paesi produttori di questo vino, ossia Modolo, Magomadas, Suni e Flussio.

Per gli amanti del trekking e del birdwatching, è possibile ammirare lo spettacolo offerto dalla Riserva naturale di Badde Aggiosu, Marrargiu e Monte Mannu. Per gli amanti dello snorkeling, invece, è consigliata una visita al Parco Biomarino di Capo Marrargiu.

Il Castello dei Malaspina, sul colle di Serravalle, contiene al suo interno una chiesa, la Chiesa di Nostra Signora di Regnos Altos, che conserva affreschi della scuola catalana.

Nei pressi del paese si trova la spiaggia di Bosa Marina, che si è aggiudicata cinque vele nella Guida Blu di Legambiente. Dalla spiaggia si ammira la Torre del Porto dell'Isola Rossa, in stile aragonese.

La Grande faille de Djibouti coupe en deux la Corne de l'Afrique, la plaque africaine à l'ouest s'éloigne de la plaque somalienne à l'est. Elle se divise ensuite au de l'Ethiopie de part et d'autre de l'Ouganda..

Entre le dôme d'Hâhayta Kôma et le lac Asal, le champ de lave de Manda, formé de coulées basaltiques récentes (moins de 2000 ans), représente une superficie de 20 km2. Les plus récentes coulées recouvrent les dépôts évaporitiques (gypse) âgés de 2000 ans. De nombreuses fissures sillonnent ce champ de lave. La plus importante, la Grande Faille forme une déchirure de plus de 5 km avec un rejet vertical de 5m par endroit, se terminant en éventail au niveau du Lac Asal. La grande Faille fait partie du sytème de failles (E) qui borde vers le Sud le plancher axial depuis le Lac Asal jusqu'au Baddi Kôma, en passant par le Belvédère. Les parois de ces failles sont souvent recouvertes de calcaires d'origine hydrothermale, ce qui prouverait une origine subaquatique lacustre. Il faut noter que ces fractures ont joué plusieurs fois dans ce secteur actif.

Villa Piercy è un'antica villa campestre della provincia di Nuoro appartenuta all'ingegnere gallese Benjamin Piercy, che vi abitò con la sua famiglia dopo essersi trasferito in Sardegna avendo ricevuto l'incarico di progettare e dirigere i lavori di esecuzione della rete ferroviaria dell'isola. Si trova in località Badde Salighes ("valle dei salici"), nel territorio di Bolotana, tra le montagne della catena del Marghine.La villaLa costruzione della villa avvenne nel periodo compreso tra il 1879 ed il 1882. I lavori furono coordinati e diretti dallo stesso Benjamin Piercy. Si sviluppa su tre livelli, di cui uno seminterrato. La pianta è quadrangolare ed i quattro vertici sono cinti da altrettante torrette, munite di feritoie, sormontate da una copertura cupolata metallica e da un piccolo pinnacolo in ferro. Le stanze al piano terra sono sormontate da volte a crociera, due delle quali presentano dei dipinti.Nel luglio del 2010, dopo un lungo lavoro di restauro ad opera del proprietario, l'Unione di comuni del Marghine, la villa è stata aperta al pubblico. Il progetto di recupero interessa anche il giardino della villa nonché il piccolo borgo adiacente alla proprietà dove è presente un interessante xiloteca. Nell'aprile 2012 è stato trafugato l'antico cancello posto nel viale d'ingresso della villa, gesto che ha destato clamore e sconcerto nella zona

Of course, many of you will know exactly what "Amache" refers to. It is one of the sites of an atrocity committed by our government upon its own citizens. It's in Southeastern Colorado, just outside the tiny town of Granada--a concentration camp where Americans of Japanese descent were imprisoned for most of WWII. Why? A mixture of stupidity, racism and unreasoning fear. The Japanese attacked us at Pearl Harbor, therefore, no one of Japanese heritage could be trusted . . . not even Americans. And so they usurped their houses and everything they owned, save what they could carry, herded them onto trains (far too resonant of the Jewish experience in Europe ) and imprisoned them for years. One might think that this would have militant-ized at least a few, but there is not a single record of a Japanese American committing an act of sabotage or other treasonous activity during the entire course of the war. Almost 2,000 died of disease in the drafty, uninsulated, slapdash barracks they were housed in. These were unrelentingly grim surroundings--especially early in this process, with few amenities and, much worse, the knowledge that your new world was surrounded by high fences and barbed wire and overseen by guard towers with machine guns at the ready. For those who may try to excuse this abominable behavior by noting that these camps weren't as bad as those in Germany--nothing like stating an obvious, but irrelevant fact. How can the German's behavior excuse ours? It cannot.

It's an unhappy truth that the fantasy of the United States coming to the rescue of the world in WWII, saving it from despotism in a selfless, noble, utterly virtuous effort is not and never has been totally true. There is much that our country can be proud of during that time, but there is also a great deal about which we should feel great shame. Too many are content to ignore, paper-over, or deny the evils committed by our government and armed forces between 1941 and 1946, but to pretend they didn't happen is to ensure they will happen again. I for one do not wish to see us repeat these mistakes.

There is very little left to show that there ever was a concentration camp at this location--a few concrete slabs and foundations, some twisted metal--with only a few signs to indicate what once had gone on here. In this photo, you can see a bit of one of those foundations, with an appropriately gnarly tree in the foreground. I just happened to stumble on the place as I drove semi-aimlessly through a portion of Colorado I'd never been to before--on my eventual way to Rocky Mountain National Park. When I saw the sign for "Amache," it rang a bell, but it took me a bit to recall its significance. I believe the only time I had heard of this specific place was when I visited the memorial in DC to all those who suffered through the ordeal. "Amache" was one of the sites it listed. Later, I would more purposefully seek out "Manzanar" in Western California, where much more of the camp has been preserved. The next time I visit Arkansas, I plan on visiting the sites there, "Jerome" and "Rohwer."

Vårtig röksvamp –svamp i folktron

I södra Sverige kallade man förr röksvampen för blindsvamp. År 1755 skrev Linné att man i hela Sverige trodde ”att röken från denna gör ögonen blinda, varför man överallt aktar sig för dess rök”.

Många namn i folkmun

Svampen hade fler namn: blinneblåsa, blindsopp, blodstilla, käringsvamp, kärringfis, fessopp, fnåksvamp, bofis, jessop, röksopp, fnysksvamp, fuksvamp, Skams snusdosa, trollägg, gastfes och skogsnuveläder. Skam var djävulen, gast ett illasinnat spöke och skogsnuva ett kvinnligt skogsrå.

Röksvamp i folktron

Käringsvamp använde man för ”att stilla blod”. Användning och tillvägagångssätt: ”af Allmogen för att stämma blod och äfven af Åderlåtare, som ej lärt att förbinda”. Man sprutade helt enkelt det bruna sporpulvret rakt på såret genom att klämma på röksvampen. Vid näsblod skulle man stoppa en rökboll i näsborren, sedan badda hela näsan med kallt vatten och vid inre blödningar skulle man använda surmjölk med röksvampen.

Jagged!!! We have had a MIGHTY windstorm- 126 kph clocked at Mt Hope Airport nearby!!! As result, LITTER is EVERYWHERE!! Some of the Litter is WHOLE TREES but this litter is the shattered ends of last year's Peony stalks in our garden. Peony is a VERY woody stemmed plant when the stems are dry. Our peonies were bent over by the strong wind but not actually broken. Lazy as ever, I decided to BREAK off the old stems and chuck them into the compost!!!!! BADD plan- with no gloves on and no clippers! Nasty cuts and MUCH blood later, I did manage to get the old stalks broken and chucked into the compost. Long story but this is MY offering to Macro Mondays' theme- Jagged- for this week. HMM
