This the grand opening of @artlery160, a new high tech art space in Boston's financial district, with an exhibit named "Arrival/Arrival" featuring the work of Ara Azad from his "Mailed Painting" series. Over a period of twenty one years, Mr. Azad has mailed over 140 paintings mainly from the Boston area to cities all over the world. While mailing paintings may sound like an ordinary thing to do, the manner in which Mr. Azad mails paintings certainly is not. He first paints a portrait, then paints a recipient's address on the painting itself, applies postage directly on the painting, and puts it in the mail unpackaged, uninsured, and unsecured, except by trust! Only one painting he has mailed has not arrived in perfect condition, unfortunately lost to "mail fraud", and all of the others delighted many a postal worker on the way to their intended recipients.

And while @artlery160 might at first seem like an ordinary art gallery, it is actually a high tech art space designed to showcase a new business model for the art world that puts artist's rights front and center while encouraging much broader engagement from both patrons and collectors. All art featured in @artlery160 is available through a mobile app called Artlery (visit artlery.com/ on iOS or Android device to install, please do so prior to the event itself), along with special iBeacon proximity sensors associated with each work that provide advanced analytics and context awareness.

Not only can you easily purchase any works directly from the Artlery mobile app, we also give away 20% of each work of art to be shared by the public. You get your own special "art account", which accrues interest the more art you appreciate and the more the works in your collection appreciate in value. When any piece of art sells, you choose whether to collect your stake as cash, invest it back into an artist's career, or give it to a charity. There are over 100 artists currently on the Artlery platform as well as trials with six different galleries in Boston, NYC, and San Francisco.

We are extraordinarily honored and excited to host Mr. Azad and fifteen of his works for our ceremonial first exhibition. We hope to see you there and look forward to working with many other artists in the greater Boston area and elsewhere to showcase their works in our space @artlery160.
