The foundation stone for the , ‘beautification and upgradation of Azad Maidan Square’ were laid on 11.10.16 at the hands of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Defence – Government of India, and in the distinguished presence of Shri Laxmikant Parsekar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chairman – GSIDC & MLA – Sankhali constituency, Shri Sidharth Kuncalienker, Hon’ble MLA – Panaji constituency & Vice Chairman – GSIDC, Shri Surendra Furtado Mayor, Corporation of City of Panaji as well as corporator Vaidahi Naik etc under AMRUT Mission (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)
To be completed in next 8 months by GSIDC

This town is submerged under water for most of the year and is only visitable a few weeks of the year. The later however will be no longer possible as the mangla dam's capacity has been raised and old ruins such as these will probably be never again seen.
