Sambisari es un templo hinduista del siglo IX ubicado en la aldea de Sambisari, Java Central, Indonesia. El templo se descubrió en julio de 1966 debido a que un agricultor cuando trabajaba la tierra, su azada golpeó la piedra tallada que era parte de las ruinas enterradas del templo. La noticia del descubrimiento llegó a la oficina de Arqueología en Prambanan y el área fue vallada. Las obras de excavación y reconstrucción se completaron en marzo de 1987. Se cree que el templo fue enterrado por una erupción de cenizas volcánicas del cercano Volcán Merapi.

Basado en similitudes arquitectónicas y ornamentales con el templo hinduista de Prambanan, la presencia de estatuas hindúes alrededor de las paredes del templo y el liṅga -yoni dentro del templo principal, los historiadores han concluido que Sambisari era un templo hindú Ṥivaita construido alrededor de la primera o segunda década del siglo noveno (cerca del 812-838). Esta conclusión fue apoyada por los hallazgos de una placa de oro en terrenos cercanos grabada con letras que según la paleografía se usaron en la antigua Java de principios del siglo IX.

El visitante debe descender el tramo de escaleras en el lado occidental para llegar a la parte central del templo, cuya base es 6,5 m. más baja que el nivel del suelo actual. Las partes exteriores son terrazas de 8 m. de ancho. Excavaciones recientes revelaron que la capa exterior de paredes que rodean el templo cubren un área más amplia. Solo se ha excavado la parte noreste de este muro exterior, el resto aún está enterrado bajo tierra.

El complejo Sambisari estaba rodeado por un muro rectangular de piedra blanca de 50 x 48 m. En este patio principal, hay ocho liṅga pequeños, cuatro ubicados en los puntos cardinales y otros cuatro en las esquinas. Este complejo consistía en un templo principal y una hilera de tres templos pervara (guardianes) más pequeños frente a él. El templo pervara central mide 4,9 x 4,80 m., mientras que los templos pervara norte y sur miden 4,80 x 4,80 m. cada uno, y no tienen cuerpo ni techo de piedra, solo constan de una base y barandillas.

El edificio del templo principal mide 5 x 5 m. y 2,5 m. de altura. Alrededor de las paredes exteriores del templo hay nichos que contienen estatuas de dioses hindúes, coronados por la cabeza de Kala. En el nicho del norte, hay una estatua de Durgā, en el nicho del este, una estatua de Gaṇeṥa, y en el nicho del sur, una estatua de Agastya. La entrada a la sala principal está en el lado oeste y está flanqueada por nichos que alguna vez contuvieron estatuas guardianes de Mahakala y Nandisvara. Dentro del templo reside un yoni de 1,34 x 1,34 m. y 1,18 m. de altura. En el lado norte del yoni, hay una boca de agua sostenida por una serpiente Nāga. Encima del yoni hay un liṅga que mide 0,29 por 0,29 m. en la base y 0,85 m. de altura.
